Is tights and open toed shoe OK or not? Debate going on with my mum.

What's your thoughts?

No way! They look so odd

ZombieBoob · 04/06/2024 08:50

The debate came about as I'm off to a wedding at the weekend and I work in housekeeping and my legs are always bruised and banged up. I was moaning how the dress I'm wearing will show all my bruises on my extremely pale skin. And mum said to wear tights.

Would fake tan help any?

Oh you can get make up for legs OP… Sally Hansen Airbrushed. Evens out discolouration without being too “ fake tan “ looking. Sorry about the link.

No, not unless you are over 85!

Redlarge · 04/06/2024 11:15

Not until I'm in the nursing home

SlipperyLizard · 04/06/2024 11:19

I’d say no, it looks awful, but I did used to wear the ones with open toes because the skin on my feet is so delicate that shoes without tights means rubbing/blisters etc.

I have one pair of wedge heels that I can wear without tights, they are a soft leather so don’t kill my feet.

ItsFuckingBoringFeedingEveryoneUntilYouDie · 04/06/2024 11:26

Open toe tights?
Sometimes, if I think my shoes will rub I wear them, just to avoid the chafing.

Only if it's high fashion

This. I can see it working if you're wearing patterned tights - leopard print or lacy floral or something with a short cocktail dress and you can really carry off 'a look'. I think you probably need to be thin and good looking too. Probably winter as well. Otherwise no.

KeeeeeepDancing · 05/06/2024 02:53

Sally Hansen spray is your solution! It is amazing. Like leg blur it's so opaque. However do a trial run a week before the event as you will need a mitt to blend it in and to check the colour. You've got to work fast as once it's dry it's stuck on! I had to scrub in the shower with scrubby gloves and it still didn't hardly move.

If you find this too orange the best alternative for v pale skin is Rimmel leg tint. Non sparkly one. It's not orange.

No to tights!!!

merrymelodies · 05/06/2024 02:55

Never

JuneIsBustinOutAllOver · 05/06/2024 03:27

My friend has sensitive toes and always wears open toe tights from M&S. They are very sheer, though, so I don’t think they’d hide banged up or bruised legs.

Isthisreasonable · 07/06/2024 09:58

Back in the day it was considered slovenly to not wear stockings/tights. It certainly was when I started work and you wouldn't have dreamt of going to a formal occasion bare legged.

Butterworths · 07/06/2024 10:00

ooh I saw someone doing this today and she looked amazing. Super cool outfit overall then teal tights and yellow chunky sandals. I see her a lot as she lives on my street and I love how she dresses.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 07/06/2024 10:03

I wore sandal toe tights when I was bridesmaid for DB and SIL and wish I’d just used Airbrush Legs or got a spray tan now. It looked ok but I could see it.

GiveUsABreather · 07/06/2024 10:06

It's one of the things I've always said I'd put in Room 101

Humberston · 07/06/2024 10:08

Yeah, it's a look.

Well wear different shoes then

ZombieBoob · 07/06/2024 21:59

Aye but the shoes I wanted to wear are comfy while still being heels also I just bought them and didn't want to buy another pair

Lokshen · 07/06/2024 22:01

No no nope.
You can get weird toeless tights but I'm not sure they would work with strappy rather than just peeptoe

eurochick · 07/06/2024 22:09

It's a nope from me. Tights-clad toes are not a good look.

The open toe tights work quite well. I actually wore some this week to a work black tie do. My dress had a fairly high slit and not wearing tights with it around work people would have felt too naked. I wore a lovely pair of high open toed shoes and the finish line of the tights just disappeared under the toe strap.

Likewhatever · 08/06/2024 00:01

I bought toeless tights from M & S. Hideously uncomfortable and looked like I’d poked holes in my tights with my toenails. Note to self, if you’re going open toe, make extra sure your feet are presentable.

Hohofortherobbers · 08/06/2024 00:17

I like m&s toeless tights. Much prefer my legs in tights

CJ0374 · 08/06/2024 00:36

Tights with open toed shoes are as bad as socks and sandals! Yuck 😱
If the toe is just a small peep toe, then those toeless tights are great- not for a whole strappy shoe though. If you want to wear tights, maybe you just need other shoes!
