I need an absolute stunner of a dress

Wedding guest, but it’s my brother in law and they are VERY in to what everyone is wearing. Summer wedding.

I am open to ANY style as long as it’s under £120.

I’m 5ft 3, size 12, 40ish 😉 The reason I ask is that my style is a little out there and quirky and I’ll wear pretty much anything (think velvet skirts, band T-shirts, very bright neons, body cons or midis, leopard print, fake fur) and obviously the pictures will be going on someone’s wall for decades, so I need something that is classic but also different and not overpowering.

help me please, this board has never let me down before!

Your proposed dress looks ideal OP. Wedding-friendly but still you.

The Karen Millen one is great, but those massive ruffles and length would surely swamp someone who's 5'3!

I'm 5'3" and i agree, KM and Reiss both do petite sizes

If they've chosen olive green as their bridesmaid colour, they clearly like muted, neutral, natural, subtle colours.

Personally I visually cringe to see a very brightly coloured guest in wedding photos when the main theme is neutral/subtle/gentle. It makes them look anything from clueless to inconsiderate to attention seeking. I know a woman.who dominated her sister's wedding photos in very strong/striking colours (and structure) so much so that you look at her first in all the photos, not the bride. Thought it was kinda shitty.

Summer is a time for bright though I think. If it were winter or even autumn I’d consider jewel colours or muted neutrals - which look hideous on me generally. Im not willing to look hideous just to fit in 😂 when I see people have matched the bridesmaids I always wonder if they wish they’d been asked to be one. I’ve been a bridesmaid 5 times, I’d like to wear something I picked and like; not what matches the consensus.

I know for sure that people will be bright and covered in sequins.

I wouldn't be wearing white/ivory or cream etc to a wedding.

It's too wedding dressy, even in sequins.

The second dress looks clubby/disco-y/out at night.

Edited

I read this as “yout at night” and I thought oooh that’s a look 🤩

What’s your skin and hair colouring?

What’s your skin and hair colouring?

I am dark haired with highlights but my hair could change by them, as I sometimes have a very unnatural orange ombre done. I’m pale with a cool undertone. I tan ok though. I have been told my skin is “dull” in winter, by the man at MAC hahahhaha

Haha they will definitely have pictures on the wall for the next few decades, as well as staged group shots, canvases made, calendars made, their weddings are enormous events. Although I usually get stuck on the end or half cropped out, even when I’m not wearing something outrageous, so maybe I am overthinking it!

Will look on wolf and badger! Totally forgot about that!

Until they get a kid, then the wedding will be utterly forgotten as they move into their next project! Grin

If you like the pink but not the one shoulder, how about this one? https://www.zara.com/uk/en/flowing-dress-with-gathering-p00264171.html?v1=346153637

I think this blue one is beautiful. Bright but not over the top. At 5 3 some of the long ones will totally swamp you but this shaple/ length would look great on you.
And l agree the pink can just be too much. I was at a wedding recently and a family member was in shocking pink and it was just too much even though l normally adore pink. I like the rust one from Reiss too as it would be right length and the colour would look great beside olive green.

Guests shouldn't be forced to buy new clothes for every wedding so if the smart dress they have is a bright colour they should be able to wear that. As long as it's not white or black, you're not breaking any rules.

Take a look at Scamp&Dude 👍🏻

PiggieWig · 19/05/2024 20:05

The orange strapless one from coast is lovely and would tone really nicely with olive bridesmaid dresses.

Marine30 · 19/05/2024 20:46

I love it - very Studio 54. Stunning pewter colour.

Marine30 · 19/05/2024 20:48

You could try hiring from one of the designer sites - Hurr Collective or Girl Meets Dress. That way you get a one off and then can send back and not have something in your wardrobe you may only wear once.

DisforDarkChocolate · 23/05/2024 17:15

I love the pink dress but how does it look next to olive green? I'm thinking not good.

these Karen Mullen dresses …I think the blue and magenta would nicely contrast but still compliment olive green
