I need an absolute stunner of a dress

Wedding guest, but it’s my brother in law and they are VERY in to what everyone is wearing. Summer wedding.

I am open to ANY style as long as it’s under £120.

I’m 5ft 3, size 12, 40ish 😉 The reason I ask is that my style is a little out there and quirky and I’ll wear pretty much anything (think velvet skirts, band T-shirts, very bright neons, body cons or midis, leopard print, fake fur) and obviously the pictures will be going on someone’s wall for decades, so I need something that is classic but also different and not overpowering.

help me please, this board has never let me down before!

This is stunning! 100% more wedding guest appropriate than the one in the OP

YouSayChorizoIsayChorizo · 17/05/2024 11:11

Your proposed dress looks ideal OP. Wedding-friendly but still you.

The Karen Millen one is great, but those massive ruffles and length would surely swamp someone who's 5'3!

ByRotation has some amazing designer dresses to rent

mrspaulhollywood · 17/05/2024 14:38

@whoopdeedoo have you ever rented a dress? I am interested in it but worried about damage and what the process would be like.

CactusMactus · 17/05/2024 16:51

I love this but maybe too bridal? https://www.asos.com/topshop/topshop-maxi-sequin-dress-in-ivory/prd/202686570

Love the KM pink one. Reiss quality seems to have gone to shit recently so I wouldn’t buy anything from there (no matter how tempting it looks online), I was very very disappointed with two dresses I bought last month.

Oblomov24 · 17/05/2024 19:34

I like and prefer your choice Op, and as you are petite the longer ones could drown you.

Jentefieldroamer · 17/05/2024 20:20

I prefer the dress you chose . Really stunning!

WeDreamInPhosphoresence · 17/05/2024 20:25

This is the best so far?

Love your dress, is this Reiss?

Saxendi · 17/05/2024 21:13

Would you not consider renting a dress more likely to get something amazing
An example!

this is my least favourite, also I don't think linen would look good after being stood up/ sat down in all day, creases!

Fiftysixthnamechange · 18/05/2024 08:26

I'm currently eyeing these up...the wolf and badger one in particular...

I like the first one you posted best! Just go for it!

mitogoshi · 18/05/2024 08:44

You know your family but it's too bright and too short in my view. Not that any of the other suggestions are better.

If you like quirky, I've bought nice pieces from Dolly and Dotty, Joe Brown, Pretty Kitty, Hell Bunny. Lots of velvet etc, though for summer it's hard to know if velvet is too warm, in Britain that is!

Saratoga212 · 18/05/2024 09:40

I wouldn't be wearing white/ivory or cream etc to a wedding.

It's too wedding dressy, even in sequins.

The second dress looks clubby/disco-y/out at night.

Saratoga212 · 18/05/2024 09:44

If they've chosen olive green as their bridesmaid colour, they clearly like muted, neutral, natural, subtle colours.

Personally I visually cringe to see a very brightly coloured guest in wedding photos when the main theme is neutral/subtle/gentle. It makes them look anything from clueless to inconsiderate to attention seeking. I know a woman.who dominated her sister's wedding photos in very strong/striking colours (and structure) so much so that you look at her first in all the photos, not the bride. Thought it was kinda shitty.

Saratoga212 · 18/05/2024 09:46

What colours that coordinate with olive green might you like?

Bronze? Silver
A floral with green in it?

Saratoga212 · 18/05/2024 09:47

You're also a 12 so maybe take advantage of it and get something fitted/fit and flare and elegant. Some of those are quite blousy/smocky/A Line.
