Are gels on toes a waste of money ?

I've never had gels on toes. I think toe gel lasts longer than finger nails ?

Is it a waste of money or should I go for it for the summer ?

Absolutely not a waste of time - it lasts so much longer than it does on the fingernails. I’ve had my current set on for 5 weeks and although it’s starting to look a little grown out there’s not a chip in sight

CaptainCabinets · 16/05/2024 09:25

Nope, lasts ages. I used to get mine done but it was sooo expensive. Got myself a lamp and a set of gels online and now have lots of colours so I just do my own, takes me about an hour every 3-4 weeks so I just put a film on in the evening and gel away!

Currently pregnant so DP is going to take over when I can no longer reach my toes! Grin

As someone who often paints my toenails but not my fingernails....go for it if you'll be getting your toes out a fair bit! I like to change colour so just use standard polishes.

OneForTheRoadThen · 16/05/2024 09:54

No it's brilliant. I get a pedicure and gel toes every pay day and it always lasts the four weeks.

How do you remove the old gel?

MuscariFan · 16/05/2024 20:38

I never see the point of gel on toes - normal nail polish lasts well beyond my boredom threshold and/or grow out anyway, so I’d go for easy to remove at home.

This!

I do my own fingernails as they grow so quick and I change them weekly ..also find toes harder to paint than fingers .

But toes - always gel . Lasts a good 5/6 weeks and doesn't matter if they grow out a little .

I agree with this.

How do you remove the old gel?

It’s usually peelable by the 4-week mark, but I use an electric file to buff off any stubborn bits.

Same

I don’t like gel nails full stop, but especially on toes. I paint my toenails and they last weeks. It’s only the regrowth that makes me remove the polish.

Lamelie · 16/05/2024 22:57

Regular on toes and it doesn’t chip, I get them done every six weeks or so and have done for 10+ years, my nails underneath are strong and clear, I always have a good peer!
Rarely get my hands done and as it either chips so fast or if I get gels damages them. Interested in what @CaptainCabinets says about peeling off after 4 weeks- mine are still strong 3 weeks in, I’m resisting having them redone as they’re so strong! I’m doing lots of diy at the moment and it’s like having 10 little chisels!

Love gel on toes - lasts over 6 weeks!

I do my own - had sensationail kit for years

rainbowbee · 16/05/2024 22:58

Mine lasts 4 weeks. I think it's worth it. I don't do it in cold weather and I don't do my fingernails as they grow too quickly. I find normal polish chips to bits on toes so it's gel or natural!

How do you remove the old gel?

Get some acetone (usually £1 in home bargains) some cotton wool and foil. Soak the cotton wool in acetone a one use the foil to hold it in place and wrap it around your toe. Before placing it buff the top layer of gel to make it break down. Leave it for 10 mins and then scrape with a critical pusher etc. keep reapplying until it’s gone

Wolfiefan · 16/05/2024 23:00

I still have the gel on my toes that I had done at Easter. 🥴

ClipClopperDontStopper · 16/05/2024 23:04

I never paint my fingernails, beyond some hint of pink variety of clear polish, but always have gel on my toes. It looks glossy, neat and precise, never chips and last about 5 weeks. Love it. Home painted nail polish just doesn't look as good.

Coolblur · 16/05/2024 23:07

It lasts a lot longer on toenails than on fingernails, I guess, because your toes are more protected and not used in the way your hands are. But it wrecks the nails if left on for too long, as I discovered. If I ever had it done again (I generally prefer my nails to be natural), I'd get it removed at the same time as that on my fingernails.

bendmeoverbackwards · 16/05/2024 23:18

Can you have nail extensions on toenails? Some of my nails are very short.

MidnightMeltdown · 16/05/2024 23:30

Yes, waste of money imo.

Regular nail polish doesn't chip easily on toes so tends last a long time. There's no benefit to having gel polish last longer as it grows out and looks crap after a few weeks anyway.

TomatoSoz · 16/05/2024 23:42

I don't really see any point. I use normal polish or gel effect and it lasts for ages, especially with a top coat. I sometimes wish it didn't last so long so I had more motivation to take it off or change it. I wouldn't get gel on my toes because I would be woreied that I couldn't remove it often enough to let my nails breath.

TheOGCCL · 16/05/2024 23:51

I agree with others, normal nail varnish lasts 5-6 weeks on me and easy to remove.

mondaytosunday · 17/05/2024 00:51

I only have polish on my toes and gel is definitely the way to go. Lasts until they grow out basically!

Viewfrommyhouse · 17/05/2024 07:53

I always have gel toes. Get my nails done once a month, have my toes done every two months or so. I like the whole experience of a pedicure, it's not just about the gel, but the whole foot scrub, the little massage etc. Definitely worth it imo.
