Only nice and positive things though, bitchy and snarky comments are not welcome!

The sun is shining and I have seen women of all shapes and sizes in their shorts. I know that around this time of year threads about flattering shorts start appearing and people are self conscious so I say if the sun is shining don’t worry about other people, just wear your shorts.

SO. MUCH. BEIGE.

SO. MUCH. BEIGE.

Sorry - just saw it's supposed to be positive. Although if you're a beige-wearer I suppose my comment was positive. Grin

I was out in city centre yesterday afternoon and noticed all the lovely summer dresses! Across the ages, had lots of dress envy!

henlake7 · 12/05/2024 14:33

yes, to the dresses and floaty skirts.... you never know how long the sunshine will last so I dont blame people for getting their summer on!

Dunkinn · 12/05/2024 14:36

Loads of floaty, brightly coloured dresses on all ages and sizes (garden centre). Love this.

PragmaticDramatic · 12/05/2024 15:37

I also saw someone in blue dungarees with a Broderie anglaise blouse underneath which looked lovely.

Damn mine was going to be bitchy, just say she was a beauty victim.

On the other hand I saw a woman trying on dresses and coming out to show he husband who seemed to be critical of them all ( I say seemed because they weren't speaking English but there was one blue and white one she looked amazing in.

ReadySetSit · 12/05/2024 15:43

I love beige Grin.

I saw a woman in a gorgeous yellow dress yesterday (wish I could wear yellow, but it’s not my friend) and another woman in a really simple, emerald green t-shirt dress and trainers who looked so fresh and cool.

WeAreAllMadeOfStarz · 12/05/2024 15:46

I absolutely love how the younger generation wear pretty much what they want, and don't dress to look skinnier or shrink themselves. Much better than the 90s when we all tried to disappear ourselves through the magic of clothing.

PragmaticDramatic · 12/05/2024 15:54

@WeAreAllMadeOfStarz I agree! People’s views on the body positivity/ neutrality movement vary greatly but it’s nice to see that there is arguably more diverse body types around for inspiration and reflective of a greater amount of people in society.

I had lots of folk through my check out yesterday, but one woman’s crochet style top really stood out as lovely. Also another lady who had absolutely perfected the sunglasses as a head band look (if that makes sense!) her hair just looked great.

Vastlyoverrated · 12/05/2024 15:57

@WeAreAllMadeOfStarz I agree, I love seeing all the young people out in shorts and figure hugging tops whatever their size, they look like they are having a blast. I love the denim shorts but not sure they are my thing.

I picked up a great colour combo from a young person which is long white floaty skirt and green hoodie/sweatshirt, that looks great.

I don't mind the beige, also loving the white floaty trousers, I like pale colours in the sunshine.

Vastlyoverrated · 12/05/2024 16:01

I also saw several women with long skirts on last night and I prefer that to midi-length, especially if with casual tops/leather jacket, slightly hippy or edgy vibe. Midi-length has never done it for me and I don't think I've seen anyone who has changed my mind on that since the sun came out. I do very occasionally wear it if it's a long dress. Also lots of nice necklaces as well, which I think went out for a while but are coming back around again, long dangly earrings.

Bigredpants · 12/05/2024 16:04

Some gorgeous dresses. An elderly chap looking spiffing in pale pink and white with a Panama hat.
A huge group of girls about 12 all in the same outfit of pastel bike shorts and a vest top. Reminded me fondly of when I used to dress the same as all my mates and start being allowed to go into town with them.

Longcovider · 12/05/2024 16:13

I saw a young woman in a white dungaree dress with black vest underneath and some really delicate tattoos, she look looked really great

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 12/05/2024 17:35

One standout longish yellow cotton dress and a long dress which might have been Alémais. A spectacularly draped long purple linen dress at a Biennale pavilion.

Lots of immaculately dressed waiters, in white dinner jackets and the hotel concierge staff in black tail coats.

A small child dressed in the sort of sailor boy suit Tadzio wore in Death in Venice (which I'm not sure I would have picked for a small boy to wear in Venice given how badly that film , and the Tadzio actor's life, turned out)

Iloveshihtzus · 12/05/2024 17:42

Lots and lots of great dresses, also wide leg floaty trousers.

What I would live to know is how women manage to get a message from the weather gods one or two days before the fab weather to go and get a pedicure and a spray tan - how come every other woman in Dublin got this memo but I missed it, so have worn trainers to hide my feet!

TheOGCCL · 12/05/2024 18:44

I observe that sandals are a lot less popular than they once were, trainers are way more popular, all seasons.

The silhouette of the summer will be a tight vest top, cropped if you dare, tucked in if not, and wide bottoms. With trainers.

Most of the current styles are 90s influenced though. My dd scours DePop for 90s clothes. I saw lots of teeny tiny tops with wide legged trousers or combats today a la All Saints 1990s. Really took me back

KateMiskin · 12/05/2024 18:58

I have seen three women in London wearing the same green and white dress from H and M, I think. I quite like the dress and was looking at it idly myself, but won't buy it now.
Orange seems to be this spring's colour.
I am liking the broderie anglaise skirts everywhere.
A lot of people seem to wear black no matter what the weather.

Redlarge · 12/05/2024 19:02

Ive seen a few ladys in beautiful silk kaftan type dresses worn with strappy heels. I need to hunt one down... the dress not the ladies.

It's called the weather forecast! Sorry, not being sarcastic but we knew a week out that it was going to be gorgeous this weekend 😁

WeAreAllMadeOfStarz · 12/05/2024 19:02

Oh that's true @XiCi but I was a 14 maybe in the 90s and it would've been unthinkable for me to go about in body con type stuff, now they don't give a fuck and wear what they like just because they like it. It's glorious.

Wasn't this the silhouette last summer too? I can do wide trousers but sadly not the tight tops.

Oh dear, unlike my silhouette then of slim leg jeans showing off pot belly and tucked in shirt/blouse to try to hide top belly overhang.

Still, Ive got the trainers right.
