Daily SPF that won't make my eyes sting!

If you have sensitive eyes, what SPF do you use on your face? I'm struggling to find one that doesn't make my eyes sting and water - even when I avoid the immediate eye area

Tried and failed:

La Roche Posay Anthelios fluid
Gruum (this was the worst! Eyes streaming even when not sweaty/didn't put it anywhere near my eyes)
Erborian CC cream with SPF (gutted because the finish is gorgeous 😭)
Upcircle - I use all their skincare and thought as natural this would be fine but wasn't (and didn't love the texture)

I vaguely recall using Green People a couple of summers ago and that being better than most - but it's pricey so it would be nice to find an alternative!

Exactly the same problem and no solution, I can't wear make up either unless my eyes water and sting :/ following for ideas

Ihavenoclu · 10/05/2024 23:09

I have ocular rosacea and I can only tolerate ultrasun. The SPF 30 face one is the best. No reaction on either my sensitive skin or eyes.

I'm back (now that the sun finally made a reappearance...) to say thanks to those who recommended Bioré Watery Essence - this is working for me! I got the original Japanese one after reading some reviews that said it was better than the UK formula and so far so good. I can put it right around my eye area with no stinging all day, texture is lovely (as is the slightly fruity scent - melon maybe?) And it's going to last ages as a little goes a long way.

Side note, I looked at Altruist but then discovered that (I think) Gruum is the same cream under a private label, so as Gruum didn't work for me I gave it a miss. Just in case anyone else has tried one or the other!

My skincare lady recommended this and promised it wouldn’t sting my eyes like other had, and it doesn’t. It’s not cheap but does last a while.

Intradermology Synergy 6 NX-Gen SPF 50

@Nikkynakkynoo thanks for reporting back. Where did you find the Japanese formula Biore? I was looking on Amazon but a bit worried about some of the reviews saying it's fake...

ManilowBarry · 03/06/2024 06:08

Cheap but effective and doesn't sting.

garnier vitamin c daily uv glow.

It's tinted.

hopsalong · 03/06/2024 06:36

If you not only have stingy eyes but also incredibly sensitive, sun-intolerant (and acne-prone) skin, as I do, then I recommend the following. (Is the Japanese formula of the Biore perfumed? I can't use perfumed products, so that put me off the British version. Altruist, Garnier, Eucerin and, most annoyingly, La Roche-Posay make me break out.)

Isdin Eryfotona AK: very few ingredients, zinc oxide based, slightly thick and white but gold standard for protection. I use this on hot days.

Cica Green Derma Mild Cica SPF 50: slightly cheaper. I buy in the Nature Republic shop in Westfield. Also a zinc sunscreen but very good for not leaving a cast.

Have recently been trying Skinceuticals Advanced brightening UV defense, which seems good so far but not in the acne-prone time of the month. Annoyingly all of the other Skinceuticals sunscreens contain ingredients listed here as comedogenic, despite being labelled non-comedogenic.

On a side note, my skin improved a lot when I stopped using products that fell foul of this list!

place marking as I am also a member of the weepy eyes club.
has anyone found a nice CC/BB cream with SPF that isn’t stingy? Not sure what the difference is between CC/BB is actually, but very light coverage, what I used to call tinted moisturiser in the 90s

familyissues12345 · 03/06/2024 07:31

Non stingy (well for me) is the Garnier vit c Serum. Comes in a tiny bottle, but a little goes a long way

Nikkynakkynoo · 16/08/2024 15:55

Back with an update!

I became dubious over whether the Japanese Biore that I bought was genuine so also bought the UK Biore watery essence from Superdrug...it's ok. Rubs in nicely though I found it a bit greasy on my skin. Doesn't sting my eyes for the most part, but if I accidentally rub my eyes all hell breaks loose 😭😬

I've recently bought Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun which I'm loving! Really nice finish, no stinging. Chic packaging too. They do it in a stick form too which I'd be keen to try (not yet though, or going to bankrupt myself through SPF hahaha)

I'm currently using E45 facial sunscreen.

SkytreeMadeOfClay · 16/08/2024 19:02

Biore, or weirdly that ultra cheap face one from home bargains, bought in an emergency but actually it's fine with my incredibly sensitive eyes and has quite a matte finish (small yellow tube with orange/yellow logo, sorry can't recall the name).

I bought some colour correcting 50++ SPF stuff from Japan at GREAT expense .. of course, it makes my eyes stream and I can't use it 😫😫😫 so I feel your devastation! Even if I don't put it near my eyes, it gradually gets there 😫

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 17/08/2024 00:23

I normally wear Simple light moisturiser without SPF around my eyes and the SPF version on my forehead, and from tops of cheeks and below .

silverjackal · 17/08/2024 14:15

Ultra Violette is great. The queen screen has a serum texture and is very light.

LessMeek · 17/08/2024 14:33

I found biore made my eyes sting. Bondi sands has been amazing for me. No eye soreness at all, and also doesn't cause blocked pores. I like the tinted ones. Even on my very fair skin they just add a hint of glow, so I can get away with a dusting of translucent powder on top and no other base, so it's very time saving too. The face SPF spray is also pretty good for touch ups, but a bit shiny when it first goes on. But I'll take shiny over sore eyes and spots.

Seconding L'Oréal Revitalift Anti-UV fluid.

This is the only one I've found

gimmegimmegimmeagin · 09/05/2024 20:58

Nivea shine control. Matte finish so is good under makeup too and didn't sting my eyes. Reasonable price too.

Yes this one seems to work for me too and isn’t too greasy.

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 17/08/2024 17:04

uk.rationale.com/collections/spf/products/3-the-tinted-serum-spf50 This. Mineral based, designed for Australia. Very expensive though.

Birdahoy · 17/08/2024 17:10

Supergoop’s unseen sunscreen. Beautiful light formula and doesn’t sting at all. Ran out and had to use some other stuff I had in and my eyes RAGED at me for hours.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 17/08/2024 17:21

Following as I have the same problem.
