Daily SPF that won't make my eyes sting!

If you have sensitive eyes, what SPF do you use on your face? I'm struggling to find one that doesn't make my eyes sting and water - even when I avoid the immediate eye area

Tried and failed:

La Roche Posay Anthelios fluid
Gruum (this was the worst! Eyes streaming even when not sweaty/didn't put it anywhere near my eyes)
Erborian CC cream with SPF (gutted because the finish is gorgeous 😭)
Upcircle - I use all their skincare and thought as natural this would be fine but wasn't (and didn't love the texture)

I vaguely recall using Green People a couple of summers ago and that being better than most - but it's pricey so it would be nice to find an alternative!

My son reacts to every suncream going but we’ve been using altruist for three or four years now and it’s brilliant, the only one that hasn’t given him a sore red rash and crusty eyes. Altruist

Altruist Sunscreen Fluid SPF50 | Altruist

Experience superior broad-spectrum protection with Altruist's Sunscreen Fluid SPF50. Safeguard your skin against UVA and UVB rays for comprehensive sun protection.

@beewales ooh I've looked at altruist before as often gets recommended - good to know it's worked for you!

I have the same problem, and as others have already said, I have success with mineral sunscreens-so those which rely on titanium dioxide or zinc oxide rather than other chemicals.

I like:
Paula's Choice super light SPF 30
Paula's Choice Essential Glow Moisturiser SPF 30
Ultra Violette Clean Screen SPF 30

I just thought my eyes are allergic to spf, I didn't know there could be a way!

LMMuffet · 09/05/2024 22:15

I had this issue so ended up going to a Korean skincare shop on the basis that one probably needs really good sunscreen in Korea. They recommended d’Alba sunscreen. It is bloody brilliant! I think it might be perfect - I have used it every day for a year.

Quitelikeacatslife · 09/05/2024 22:15

Dermalogica dynamic skin recovery is spf 50 but feels just like a lovely day cream

OhGingleBells · 09/05/2024 22:56

Clarins UV Plus Anti-Pollution SPF 50.

the only thing I’ve had any success with after years and years of horrendously watery eyes!

Hedgehog23 · 09/05/2024 22:58

I’ve been using boots no 7 facial sun screen factor 50 which I’ve found better but sadly more expensive.

thaisweetchill · 09/05/2024 23:01

I use 'sun bum' have been for about a year now. Goes on well, no white marks and not sticky at all. Never got in my eyes to sting so it doesn't run.

StarboysMum · 09/05/2024 23:09

Another vote for Altruist. I just use the standard one on my face, not the fluid.

ColonelRhubarbBikini · 09/05/2024 23:12

Another one in the Altruist camp. I never have a problem with eyes stinging but my DSis does really really badly. She’s a convert. Great price and doesn’t sting or upset her rosacea.

She’s been through them all and it’s not the only one that didn’t sting but the best of the unstingy.

Isometimeswonder · 09/05/2024 23:13

Ultrasun

GFBurger · 09/05/2024 23:14

Clarins is the only one that my daughter and husband can tolerate. Expensive but they are both so fair they need it all year round!

Well… actually not so much this wet and grim winter!!

TUGGY2006 · 09/05/2024 23:41

I can also highly recommend the L'Oréal one and goes on really nicely aswell no word marks or grease.

I’ve always used various daily moisturisers with an SPF but over the last couple of years I seem to have developed a reaction to them. Currently using La Roche Posay Toleriane SPF30 which seems to be okay, as long as I wash my hands thoroughly after applying it/don’t rub my eyes, but it is quite expensive.

I can't use anything scented on my face, Roche Posay Toleriane is very good (because it's unscented) and it doesn't irritate my eyes.

Oh no is this just going to become a gathering of weepy eyes anonymous 😂

joins the gathering

I use heliocare 360 and have no problems with stingy eyes. A little goes a long way too so a tube last quite a while .

I also use this one and it’s fine.

I can’t use chemical filters like oxybenzone (most problematic) but also avobenzone as they make my eyes water and sting.

socialwannabe · 10/05/2024 06:55

I use Altruist and Simple

WeRateSquirrels · 10/05/2024 09:23

For me:

Altruist face fluid
Nivea dark spot control (horrible feeling this is being discontinued)
Ultra Violette Supreme Screen (expensive)

Heliocare, Beauty Pie and Ultrasun all sting for me.

drusth · 10/05/2024 10:28

Garnier Ambre Solaire SPF 50+ Sensitive Advanced Sun Protection Cream 175ml - Boots

I use this one and it's great for my sensitive / rosacea prone skin, but I haven't rubbed it on eye lids or too close to inner eyelids.

Pinkywoo · 10/05/2024 12:08

I've tried most of the ones mentioned but like this one the most. It doesn't make my eyes sting, is matte, and cheap enough I can put loads on.

Ultrasun spf 30

HotSauceNow · 10/05/2024 12:28

Altruist facial spf didn’t make my eyes sting but did seem to make me break out. I generally use their regular spf elsewhere on my body.
