For someone who loves Dr Martens

I spent a huge amount of money a few years ago on a Dr Martens backpack. It looked beautiful and hadn't spoilt myself in ages, and was hoping it would last years and years...It was awful, absolutely beautiful but so heavy, bulky and hard to use! I kept it far longer than I should because of the money invested. Managed to claw back some money on eBay 😂 I wouldn't recommend their bags I'm afraid!

Morzee2013 · 08/05/2024 03:12

I'm not a huge original Dr.Martens fan. But, there's some beautiful newer items that are stunning. All of them are fantastically made & amazing quality. The 2 colours of bags, really are great. I like designer bags & have 1 or 2+. Whoever this is a gift for, whether a Dr.Martens fan or not. I'm very sure they'll love it & be over the moon. 🌙 🌝
A fantastic price too, for a genuine leather bag. Good choice. Let me know if you choose this bag & in which colour too please? x

Hi again. Just noticed a 10%off for new customers offer. Hope this helps.

Jins · 08/05/2024 08:43

I love it! I’ve only found the 10% new customer discount I’m afraid.

I’d get it with a gift receipt as mentioned. If not then I’d suggest Dr Marten gift vouchers rather than John Lewis. The Cambridge satchel co bags are indeed very similar but it seems like a very random gift to get a bag that looks like a DM bag but isn’t.

As a DM lover myself I can safely say that this bag would have made me very happy and I’d have had a warm glow thinking how my colleagues knew my likes well. Far better than the M&S vouchers I was given.

Bjorkdidit · 08/05/2024 08:49

Can't you just get them a voucher for somewhere that's easy to spend - Amazon, M&S or similar?

I wouldn't want anyone else choosing anything I have to wear, use or look at.

Tbry24 · 08/05/2024 10:53

Bags are personal choice so I’d pick something else. What’s wrong with flowers, chocs, leaving card and gift voucher?

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 08/05/2024 10:56

I’d get them a voucher. Yes I know it’s impersonal but it’ll be a pita to get a credit note on the bag and I’d prefer to choose a bag I liked.

I’ve seen a lot of expensive leaving gifts given in the past (or Christmas/birthday ones), one was for a PA in a large accountants and she always specified Tiffany jewellery. Another woman really wanted YSL Faux Cils mascara so apart from that and posh chocs/flowers that’s what she got. Another man was off travelling so he got an expensive and unusual (but his style) rucksack/backpack. One place I’d worked for for ages got me some lovely earrings (which I chose) and a Liberty scarf (which I’d hinted about). The accountants where I left I did really like it and it was quite backstabbing in environment terms and I really didn’t want any gifts and certainly not Tiffany jewellery so just asked for money and was given it but the two women I couldn’t stand both gave me jewellery including a cameo pendant one said which apparently I’d seen and said I liked!

Unless someone specifies what they like as a gift (and especially a leaving one) I think it’s safer to do vouchers or cash and get a small box of chocolates or flowers to go with it.

I agree. The worst ever is trying to look happy and grateful when someone presents you with a gift but even more so when it’s colleagues and you know it’s expensive!

I’ve had colleagues be given Tiffany items which they don’t like but are too nice to say so and they’ve gone on EBay/vinted afterwards (that was a Christmas gift for my friend who works in private investment company).

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 08/05/2024 11:05

I don't like DM's so was prepared to hate the bag !

However, it's leather ! which I am impressed by. ( unlike the Vivienne Westward one ) yes it looks small but I would need to get a ruler out of my cupboard to work out it's size :)
and it's leather - did I mention it is leather, and a sensible shape nothing too wierd and someone that wears DM's may be very happy with the brand name on it.

If you could give the receipt with it, or even better see if the company would do a gift receipt ?! then yes go ahead.
( as if the person really hates it then it can be returned and the money put towards a pair of DM's )

I think a chosen gift is far nicer than the flowers/chocs and gift card for M&S ( which may end up being spent on undies or food )

Idontjetwashthefucker · 08/05/2024 11:39

I wouldn't like it, not a DM fan and I don't like obvious logos/brand names on bags/clothes

Vouchers are definitely a much safer bet

SumAndSubstance · 09/05/2024 14:16

I would get it with a gift receipt, as others have said. I think for a DM fan, it's really lovely and nicer than generic vouchers because you've put thought into it, but with a gift receipt she could always exchange anyway.

Monsterjam · 09/05/2024 14:22

It’s a lovely gift, give it with a gift receipt just incase but so much nicer than vouchers. If you need a discount code I can message you a10% one

Floralnomad · 09/05/2024 14:25

I think it’s a bit small , if someone got me that I’d end up having to replace my purse .

ChickyBricky · 09/05/2024 14:35

It's way too tiny for me. How would you sneak a bottle of vodka into a nightclub?!

YorkNew · 09/05/2024 15:31

I like small bags like that but they have to be very soft.

Its risky.

Lifeomars · 09/05/2024 18:43

One of my friends has that bag, it is lovely, they have had for about 3 years and it is still looking really good

Getonwitit · 09/05/2024 21:54

I would drop that into the charity shop on my way home.

BananaLambo · 09/05/2024 22:02

Theonlyoneiknow · 09/05/2024 19:12

Zatchels and Cambridge Satchels do very similar looking bags to that that might be worth a look at.

Women's Bags – Zatchels
Outlet - Up to 20% off selected bags | Cambridge Satchel

But if you really love Dr Martens a Zatchels or Cambridge satchel isn’t going to cut the mustard, is it? It’s like you really loving Nike Air Force Ones and your mum buying you the M&S ones that look almost the same but not.

Roundaboot · 09/05/2024 22:05

I've got one of those and I love it but it's tiny! I can fit my phone and a lipstick and that's it. I even have to take my house key off the bunch as I can't get the whole thing in.

Quitelikeacatslife · 09/05/2024 22:32

My DD wears DMs and I would buy her that. It's quite classic.
Get it from somewhere they can exchange easily for something different, like John Lewis rather than chase discount code.

unicus · 10/05/2024 01:25

I have misplaced/lost vouchers/gift cards this won't be :)

TizerorFizz · 10/05/2024 08:17

It's a phone bag. It's 7 inches wide! You cannot fit much in. However some people like these bags but DocM is niche. Lots of people don't like this satchel style. So I would be sure I knew the recipient wanted a phone bag and this style.

Comefromaway · 10/05/2024 09:50

It's not a phone bag, phone bags are much smaller. Crossbody bags are very popular at the moment. I have a similar sized bag for when I go to concerts due to restrictions on size.
