If you're aged 45-50, what facial moisturiser do you use?

I'm about to turn 45 and looking for a new facial moisturiser. I seem to have tried so many over the few years but nothing is quite right.
I'm curious to read what others close to my age are using.
I'm currently using Olay Total Effects moisturiser and serum duo. I like that it only has a very light scent and how it makes my skin look and feel, but unfortunately if I touch my face it pills & my make up just seems to gather on top of it.
Any suggestions would be gratefully received. Thanks.

Vaseline. Just a light coating after washing face, soaks in skin is soft not greasy.

even keeps crepey neck at bay - I’m middle sister both sisters have crepey neck!

The other new range which is aimed at menopausal women is "And Begin". It's the same set up as Skin+Me..I think the founders used to work there. Anyway, I'm enjoying using their night cream which has a higher level of prescription retinol in it. I'm not going to have any botox or stuff like that and Im not going to spend a fortune on my face so prescription retinol is my only real attempt at wrinkle prevention. If you go on their website they give you the first month for just postage I think. I recommend!

I’ve just read your post again, sorry.
i turned 55 this weekend, so I’m a bit older than you asked for!

Pilling is due to dimethicone or any other methjcone, a standard and harmless ingredient in skincare that is literally a type of silicone

The silicone feels great in a face cream and instantly makes your skin feel smoother so you think: wow, this cream is great!

If you rub your skin a bit more however the thin layer of silicone peels off, hence the peeling

Many serums and bb creams etc contain silicone too

You can find brands without, such as REN

Inkey ceramide repairing and plumping moisturiser, inexpensive, highly rated.

Ginmonkeyagain · 07/05/2024 08:03

Boots Number 7 Protect and Perfect Intense - eye cream, serum and moisturiser. I and have recently swapped out the serum for Future Renew instead.

I don't wear a lot of make up and then only a couple of days a week or so, so cannot comment on how make up sits on top of it.

GruffalosGirl · 07/05/2024 08:06

My usual cream has always been clarins, usually multi active in summer and the hydra quench in winter, but I recently got the Lacura pro night plus face cream and serum from Aldi as I'd heard good things about it, and actually prefer it to the clarins now. I use the cream day and night and the serum just at night, with their hot polish cleanser and my skin has never looked better.

I use Cerave PM morning and night. Very good under make up.

I'm 54, a bit out of range, I just use argan oil.

@Netcam do you use the argan oil for cleansing too?

aSpanielintheworks · 07/05/2024 22:59

Clinique dramatically different moisturising lotion is lovely.

Sorry @Netcam another question! Please can I ask which brand of argan oil do you use? I've had a look online and the price seems to vary widely.

Supergoop Play (spf 50), usually with Image Vitamin C serum or another serum underneath.

Usernamewassavedsuccessfully · 07/05/2024 23:12

Nivea in the white pot.

OnlyLoveCanBreakYourHeart · 07/05/2024 23:24

I was just about to start a thread about exactly this! I'm looking for a night cream really though and slightly above your target age group OP!

wellerhugs5 · 07/05/2024 23:24

I use Nivea soft, followed by heliocare 360 sunscreen, then Rosalique which also has a 50 spf like heliocare). I don't have rosacea but I use the Rosalique instead of tinted moisturiser or foundation and it's perfect- gives a nice and natural tanned look with a little coverage.

It's called The Body Source, £10 from Amazon, a bottle lasts me about 6 months. I have been using Tisserand face and body wash for cleansing for a long time, but it's out of stock at the moment and I've run out. I've ordered some Lavera Basis sensitive cleansing foam to try, I like their toothpaste and shampoo so thought I'd give it a try. I've always had sensitive, oily skin and prefer a face wash of some kind and something without loads of chemicals that doesn't cost a fortune. Although one of the advantages of being post menopause is that I almost never get any spots anymore.

SoapCollector · 08/05/2024 08:48

Thank you @Netcam 😀I will give argan oil a try. I'm quite a fan of oils for moisturising but usually use almond or coconut. Op @Shufflebumnessie if you fancy giving face oils a try for moisturising I don't think oils will cause any pilling. As a PP mentioned the pilling may be down to silicone in the moisturiser, this is usually listed as dimithicone on the ingredients list.

SoapCollector · 08/05/2024 08:50

Sorry spelling error! It's dimethicone.

Elemis pro collagen marine cream

AlexandraJJ · 08/05/2024 08:52

Used Elemis pro collagen marine cream in my 30s, ESPA in my forties and switched to CT magic cream when I turned 50. Amazingly for a non pro brand it’s my favourite

UmberMoose · 05/09/2024 13:51

La roche posay is good. Here is my routine that I follow to use tret and keep my skin normal:
Morning:
Using water to wash your face,
Sebamed clear face gel,
la roche posay spf
Evening:
la roche posay moisturizer,
Tretinoin (0.1) from skinorac
Sebamed clear facial gel

Clinique Moisture Surge

MargaritaPracticallyCan · 05/09/2024 15:57

CeraVe 30 or 50 SPF daily. Night cream is currently either an Aldi one, or Superdrug retinol serum. I'm 49 and my skin's good, mostly thanks to genes. I don't sunbathe at all these days and always wear an SPF.

Wimbledonmum1985 · 05/09/2024 15:59

LarryUnderwood · 06/05/2024 22:30

Cerave am facial moisturising lotion with spf 50 for morning. Evening I tend to use beauty pie super healthy skin daily.moisturiser. I also use a vit c serum am anda light retinol evening (can't get on with tretinoin so I use an over the counter strength from beauty pie)

Pretty much this with BEauty Pie vitamin c under the Cerave

lindyloo57 · 05/09/2024 16:40

I use cerave the one without spf then a separate spf, and I use the cerave at night to.
