If you're aged 45-50, what facial moisturiser do you use?

I'm about to turn 45 and looking for a new facial moisturiser. I seem to have tried so many over the few years but nothing is quite right.
I'm curious to read what others close to my age are using.
I'm currently using Olay Total Effects moisturiser and serum duo. I like that it only has a very light scent and how it makes my skin look and feel, but unfortunately if I touch my face it pills & my make up just seems to gather on top of it.
Any suggestions would be gratefully received. Thanks.

Cerave am facial moisturising lotion with spf 50 for morning. Evening I tend to use beauty pie super healthy skin daily.moisturiser. I also use a vit c serum am anda light retinol evening (can't get on with tretinoin so I use an over the counter strength from beauty pie)

Elemis pro collagen marine cream

Anuggetofpurestgreen · 06/05/2024 22:33

The Dr Sam.Bunting Flawless Intense cream might be worth a try. As raved about by Wayne Goss! I think it's great although slightly expensive. I also use Curel.

I love the Tropics stuff. I got drunk at a Tropics party and bought a whole set ££🙈 But actually it’s very good and I’ll rebuy.

BUT nothing has brightened my face up more that having profilio face injections. I’m 45 this year and my face was looking tired but it’s really made a difference

bryceQ · 06/05/2024 22:40

I like Illiyoon Ceramide one or La Roche Posay Tolerine (sp?)

But actually in summer I find my spf is enough for day usage. In the morning I use a hydrating rice toner then Spf. I then wear cc cream.

It might be the serum causing your makeup to pill.

Rumplemunchkin · 06/05/2024 22:43

I’ve always used Astral cream in winter and the blue Nivea in summer. They work for me.

No7 Future Renew is brilliant, especially the serum. Doesn't pill at all and feels great. SPF50 day cream as an added bonus.

IncognitoIsMyFavouriteWord · 06/05/2024 22:51

Coconut oil and tea tree and charcoal soap.

I liked the Future Renew at first too but interestingly I DID find that it pilled with my make up. I still like the serum but have stopped using the day cream, which I liked in Winter due to the SPF. I do love the night cream though and they've now released an actual SPF as part of the range so I'm using that instead of a day cream for spring/summer and it's gorgeous. Super lightweight and no pilling at all.

I've been given a lot of Estée Lauder Regenerative +. It's very nice! I've never really used a moisturiser before now (47) and I only sporadically remember, but it seems to help me look a bit less knackered if I put it on before bed.

shenandoahvalley · 06/05/2024 23:07

Whatever’s on offer in the price-range around Aveeno! I use a serum underneath, spf and moisturiser mixed together, eye cream. That’s plenty of gunk for my face.

snowgal · 06/05/2024 23:09

Weleda skin food - day and night creams. They soak in really quickly and do the trick!

Rehab4rightmove · 06/05/2024 23:11

CeraQuench from facetheory. My skin absolutely laps it up.

I really like the boots own rose water toner too.

I'm still searching for a perfect cleanser though.

I love this stuff. I use it as my regular moisturiser now.
I’ve used Dermalogica skin renewal spf 50 for years, but couldn’t justify the £80 anymore.
Cerave is under £20 and suits my skin. I love how it feels. Better than my old Dermalogica one tbh.

Btw, I’m 59, so shouldn’t really be on this thread 🤭

48 and standard Nivea works fine for me. a big tub lasts me ages.

mrschocolatte · 07/05/2024 07:10

I’ve been using the Willowberry range since the start of the year. It’s lovely and light and leaves me looking fresher faced and less tired. I don’t wear a lot of make up but when I do, it seems to sit well with my skincare regimen.

Toleriane Riche in the morning. Usually Astral or Nivea at night.

Moisturizer has one job to do.

To avoid pilling (caused by silicones) look for any ingredient ending in -cone in the ingredients. Most moisturizers promising anti-ageing and other benefits will have silicones in.

Wayne Goss might owe more to the cosmetic surgery tbf than Sam Bunting, but it's a good range.

LaPalmaLlama · 07/05/2024 07:16

Kiehls Ultra Facial cream.

CormorantStrikesBack · 07/05/2024 07:18

Olay total effects, doesn’t pill for me at all. Would exfoliating your skin help? I used to have pilling with foundation and a bobbi brown lady told me to exfoliate more.

Curlywurlywurly · 07/05/2024 07:19

This or bobbi brown

I still love him though 😍

The good thing about the Dr Sam cream from my perspective is that it sinks in fast and doesn't cause shine round your nose during the day which is a particular bugbear of mine.

I've also been using the Erborian range although again I think expensive for the amount you get.

stronglatte · 07/05/2024 07:25

I'm over 50 and have found the best for me is Nivea and after much trial and error realised its more about the skincare than the moisturiser so use ordinary products ( glycolic acid at night and retinol) and I use "peace out " dark spot serum bc I didn't listen and spent too much time in the sun and have sun spots that are dojng well with the serum
. I also drink a huge amount of water and one alcoholic drink a week - there helped my skin hugely.. since doing that I've had comments! If you are unsure about products there are loads of instructional videos on YouTube I've followed those of people who have skin like me and now have a skin care routine that works and I can follow and afford

stronglatte · 07/05/2024 07:27

I also use urban decay all night we spray after I've done my make up which makes my skin feel and look super hydrated

Netcam · 07/05/2024 07:28

I'm 54, a bit out of range, I just use argan oil.

drawnfrommemory · 07/05/2024 07:31

I’m using the Malin + Goetz Vit E moisturiser at the moment which is great, but I always go back to the Dr Sam’s Flawless one - I’ve used it since she first launched the range and I think it’s excellent.
