Please help me find a gorgeous dress for a wedding reception

I really need help finding a dress for a June wedding, just the evening do.

I'm a size 10/12 ( bigger on the hips than on top) and 5"10. I only go out a couple of times a year and I'd love something that makes me feel amazing and be a bit of a jaw dropper.

I can't go too short as I'm carrying a bit of cellulite at the back of my legs and it makes me a bit insecure.

If you've had your eye on a beautiful dress, please can you link it so I can get some inspiration or just plain old copy!

Thanks you!

Are you all on crack? That other stories rainbow thing is hideous.

Ten likes on this 😁

I like the jumpsuit OP.

That rainbow puffball thing is AWFUL. The bodice is so short anyone is going to look like a walking mushroom in that style.

And there's nothing wrong with wearing red to a wedding - I thought that attitude would have gone out with the ark.

I love this dress (would probably go for the 80s cocktail version personally but a bit short)

This one is just stunning (to me!)

Ooops just seen you’ve ordered a gorgeous jumpsuit. Ignore me!

Be aware that red can be frowned upon slightly at a wedding. Connotations of sleeping with the groom/attempts at upstaging.

Understandable you want to look fabulous, but jaw dropping is for the bride.

Crikey, thought this misogynistic waffle died out decades ago!

Marchintospring · 06/05/2024 18:38

Interesting. I didn't know about red. Although it's a very bright red I think the covered arms/ high neck makes it more appropriate. Maybe it was a bit stand out. They do a sludge colour too 😁
I know green isn't supposed to be worn at church weddings ( too pagan apparently) and white.

To be fair 95% of the guests male and female wore blue of various shades.

Shetlands · 06/05/2024 18:43

The dress is only for the evening do, so red is entirely appropriate.

I'd say red is fine for the daytime too!

Does it exist outside of MN? I got to my late 50s and had never heard of it except on here.

I wore this to a wedding last year and had so many comments, it felt really special and glam, and has similarities to what you've posted. Only in a 12 here, but if you need a different size it's worth looking around in other places that stock Karen Millen, or the green option is lovely too

I couldn't care less about red being inappropriate 😂

I hope the jumpsuit I ordered fits because I've bloody hate shopping 😂

@IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle I heard it from long dead female relatives, they were born in 1910s/1920s.

PlumpAndDeliciousFatcat · 06/05/2024 21:45

The no red for wedding guests rule is very much still a thing in Sweden, but as long as the wedding isn’t in Stockholm this won’t matter!

overthinkersanonnymus · 07/05/2024 17:47

I'm in a deep depression.....

The jumpsuit came. It was beautiful, the colour was amazing, the length, the wide leg, my arse in it looked good, the open back 🤌🏻

I have no tits to fill it 😭😭

It was so perfect but the top was huge. There were gaping bits where a big boob should live. I've never found a jumpsuit that doesn't give me a camel toe and a long back instead of an arse before today.

Ffs!!

@TheExclusiveSandwich

Most the suggestions I see on style and beauty I think are at best ridiculous or worst ugly, the few I like get ridiculed by self appointed style experts. It's entertaining at least.

Comes down to personal style, how much you want to stand out from the crowd (at weddings it's considered a bit rude to wear something too "look at me"

newmumabouttown · 07/05/2024 18:06

Browsing this for ideas, some gorgeous dresses. Some that are SERIOUSLY inappropriate for a wedding 😂😂

Tisfortired · 07/05/2024 18:22

I’m very sorry OP as this isn’t really wedding reception appropriate (maybe without the slit) but in the interests of sharing amazing dresses I saw this dress recently on Instagram and I am dying for an occasion to buy and wear such a thing.

Just buy it, if you love it. An occasion will come around!

Really? I don't think I've seen any that are inappropriate. Maybe I'm a bit ruff 😂

Any chance you could get the jumpsuit professionally altered ?
