Has anyone had invisalign as an adult

williteverstop88 · 02/05/2024 19:16

Ive always hated my teeth and should have had a brace as a teenager but I refused..so regret it now!

Im thinking of having invisalign and just wondering about the cost, anyone have any idea. I've had a look on line but they all require you to fill in an online form and I don't want them all to contact me.

DD had them - for us it was £4000 all in

Foxblue · 02/05/2024 19:40

I'm having them - also nearly 4k, as I was a complex case, I'm sure they told me I was at the top end of price in the end - it's split into tiers price wise, but if you do your research on local dentists a lot of them offer a 12 months no interest payment plan.
You are best off getting a free consultation, I went and I said 'I need to get my finances in order, in xx months, then I'll be back' so it wasn't awkward and I didn't get the hard sell.
I think mine fell into complex because I had quite bad overcrowding.

WhatWouldYouDo33 · 02/05/2024 19:41

Did your speech suffer? I know a couple of adults with Invisalign and their speech was hard to understand and that worries me.

lauren8910 · 02/05/2024 19:44

Me! I've finished now just waiting on some bonding and teeth whitening.
Around £2k - best thing I ever did. Was so self conscious of my teeth before and now don't give them a second thought 😀

stripes92 · 02/05/2024 19:47

Yes. Cost about £4k. Go to a properly trained orthodontist! Didn't affect my speech at all. I'm very glad I did it.

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 02/05/2024 19:48

I am in my first week with Angel Aligners, so similar to Invisalign. Total cost is £3700 which I paid up front but could have had a monthly plan. No problems with speech at all and it’s making me really disciplined about eating and drinking as you have to take them out for anything other than plain water. They are a bit painful to start with but nothing that paracetamol won’t cope with. My dentist referred me to the orthodontist.

HidingUnderTheBleachers · 02/05/2024 19:48

I had it as an adult and one of my kids has had it as a teen. It cost £4k each.

You need to be assessed by an orthodontist as not everyone is suitable.

Neither if us had any speech issues.

mamakoukla · 02/05/2024 19:49

Yes and should have done it sooner! Complex case due to severe overcrowding (3 teeth removed). Can now bite through food whereas before my front upper and lower just didn’t meet. Straight teeth but best outcome is being able to use them

xyz111 · 02/05/2024 19:51

Mine was 3k i think. Really happy with them. Go for it if you can afford it!

DD wasn’t a complex case at all and things only took 9 months - £4k is just the standard price pretty much throughout the UK for Invisalign Comprehensive. You can get off branded aligners for far cheaper however the quality isn’t as good and it’s mostly dentists instead of a proper orthodontist offering them

thanKyouaIMee · 02/05/2024 19:56

I'm doing mine now! Also 4k for fully comprehensive (includes rescans, new sets of corrections where needed, retainers and a fixed wire etc).

You've got to commit to wearing them 20-22 hours a day, not eating or drinking (unless it's water!) with them in and keeping up your dental hygiene. I occasionally think I have a slight lisp when I swap to a new set, but I present a lot at work and no one else (even when asked!) has noticed. I would really recommend, I see such a difference now and I'm only halfway through.

There's a UK Invisalign Facebook group you can search for and join, lots of info on there 😊

williteverstop88 · 02/05/2024 20:44

Thanks for replies.

I don't think I could afford £4000 at the money, 2000 I could probably afford. At least I now have an idea about prices and can start saving up.

Me!

Did it in Covid in 2020, best thing I ever did. So happy, can't believe the difference it made.

About 3600 all in, that includes bonding and whitening

nonottoday · 02/05/2024 20:49

I wanted them, only slightly wonky teeth nothing too bad (aesthetically), but was told I needed fixed as my bite was off. I've had white train tracks for a year, teeth are looking great but have hated every minute of it. Nearly over now tho! £4.5k. Worth having a consultation to see what's best for you :)

SharpWriter · 02/05/2024 20:53

Mine also cost about 4k but was also complex due to overcrowding. Yours might be more simple and could take less time (mine took 4 years as my orthodontist was a total perfectionist). See an orthodontist and see what they say - I think my speech was slightly affected but only for a few days, and I think only 2 people in 4 years even noticed I was wearing them. It's so worth doing if you can get the money together. My teeth are as perfect as they could possibly be. I think I was 41 when I started the treatment.

Saker · 02/05/2024 21:20

It's something I've thought about from time to time as my dentist decided he could do my teeth himself as a child / teenager rather than referring me to the orthodentist and he didn't do a good job. Are they genuinely "invisible" or at least do most people not really notice?

You definitely notice them. Not at a distance but when you meet someone for coffee for example. Everyone is saying they had no speech issues, but two people I know had a lisp and it was hard to understand them. I didn’t tell them this of course.

Fluffywigg · 02/05/2024 21:42

I had them years ago but I wasn’t overly impressed with the end result to be honest.

Obviously they’re much less obvious than normal braces but I as a pp pointed out, if you were up close chatting to someone you would generally be able to tell they had them in. It does make you lisp at the beginning, it was that long ago I can’t remember if it got better.

If someone has significant need for one I think k the results will be more pleasing. If it’s just a slight need for really straight teeth I don’t feel they were as good for me.

lynnie75 · 02/05/2024 21:48

I had Smilelign (similar but a bit cheaper) at the ripe 'old' age of 46. Cost me £3k split over a few instalments. I had three sets of braces as a child and didn't wear my retainer (tsk! tsk!). Wish I had done it sooner. I wear retainers every night and have fixed retainers on the back of my teeth but that's a small price to pay for a smile I'm confident to show off (I was always the one with the awkward smile in photos, trying to hide my teeth, that I felt were too crooked) 😁

Conniethecatapillar · 02/05/2024 21:52

I am getting mine next month, just over 4k.

CampervanKween · 02/05/2024 21:59

I did it a couple of years ago, about £4k all in. Wasn't painful and I am really pleased with the result.

RandyFlagg · 02/05/2024 22:02

Yep same as you, refused braces as a teen and had Invisalign as an adult. I was around £4k also but it was worth every single penny. I can get my photo taken now without even thinking about it.

No speech issues after the first week and no pain that an Anadin extra couldn’t sort. Would do it again in a heartbeat

Gatekeeper · 02/05/2024 22:08

Im 60 and on tray 28 ish of my aligners. I had trouble until recently with my speech and was lisping and slavering with them. All of a sudden everything changed and and can talk normally. Definitely worth it though as I hated my teeth as they were crossed, snaggly and just plain awful.

Oldest patient at my surgery is 83 so you are never too old

WhatNext24 · 02/05/2024 22:17

I did Invisalign, cost £4K and money well spent. I think it's cheaper the less your teeth need to be moved (the price takes into account the no. of aligners you need). I had overcrowding which is harder to fix than gappy teeth.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 02/05/2024 22:28

I had Invisalign when I was in my 50s - best thing for I ever did. It cost around £3k and that included whitening and a retainer.
