Has anyone had invisalign as an adult

williteverstop88 · 02/05/2024 19:16

Ive always hated my teeth and should have had a brace as a teenager but I refused..so regret it now!

Im thinking of having invisalign and just wondering about the cost, anyone have any idea. I've had a look on line but they all require you to fill in an online form and I don't want them all to contact me.

Mine were very visible, I had attachments on almost every tooth, some more than one. It bordered on ridiculous and meant the trays were so difficult to remove to start off. My teeth are lovely now so it was worth it but I also did have a tiny lisp and most people I know who have had Invisalign have lisped too

museumum · 02/05/2024 22:44

Cost £4k. I had so many attachments it was really uncomfortable when I had them out. I needed my teeth filed too in places. It took over a year in total (32 aligners I think) but was definitely worth it. Really changed my teeth and the shape of my smile/face.

Look at clear correct. Exact same process but a lot cheaper

It's something I've thought about from time to time as my dentist decided he could do my teeth himself as a child / teenager rather than referring me to the orthodentist and he didn't do a good job. Are they genuinely "invisible" or at least do most people not really notice?

DD’s genuinely weren’t noticeable at all, we were very impressed. No lisp etc, aligners perfectly clear + fitted. Her orthodontist challenged her to keep it a secret from friends/family and see how long it took for them to realise - it was months before she told anyone and they were all amazed. Nobody had any idea that she’d been wearing ‘braces’ for the entire time

I did, best thing I ever did! Had composite veneers after too. Such a good investment when it comes to teeth.

Ahwelltoobad · 03/05/2024 11:58

I'm almost at the end now, and as a bonus, I have lost a stone! (since August) No time to snack when I need to have the braces in 22 hours a day. Very pleased! (And also displeased that I couldn't just stop snacking by myself years ago 😂)

I’m 54 and am nearly at the end of my Invisalign treatment. It’s taken nearly 2 years, with a couple of months left to go to achieve perfect teeth. Total cost was £4800, including teeth whitening, which will happen when finished. Totally worth it in my opinion, as my teeth were awful!

I've got it and it was £4.5k with a 0% payment plan.

The attachments (nobbly bits on the teeth, I have some on pretty much every tooth) are a bit of a shock as they make them a lot less invisible. But it's not too bad. My orthodontist got me used to the first two aligners without attachments and then added attachments for aligner three. I had a "what have I done?!" moment at that point as the attachments were noticeable and I found it hard to remove the aligners to begin with. Now it's a lot easier though, just takes practice... I'm glad I had just aligners to begin with as it eased me into it.

Worst for me was having an extraction right at the front which is only just closing up now. The orthodontist did paint some white into the gap in the aligners which helped.

I've got 31 aligners (= 31 weeks) and about halfway through, ortho is checking me every 6 weeks or so and I'm likely to need some refinements at the end too.

It's weirdly fascinating seeing your teeth change week by week, and also the AI teeth scan and generated plan is really impressive. I like the reassurance of being under the care of an orthodontist though as he checks everything is ok/on track

Look over all the threads on braces and Invisalign on mn, there are some good tips on them but horrendously I can’t remember what I’d decided when I read through!

Scottishgirl85 · 03/05/2024 17:09

Did it at 35, cost £3k in SE. Best money I've ever spent.

useitorlose · 03/05/2024 18:20

I almost done, started Nov 22 with a comprehensive plan of 35 aligners. I did feel my speech was affected but only for a couple of weeks at first. You soon get used to their presence and in fact miss them as the attachments can be annoying without them. Presently we have paused the treatment while attempting to bring my molars into better alignment (they don't quite meet when I bite) so in the daytime I'm aligner free but have 8 metal pins on my back teeth, top and bottom, so 8 each side. Then there are tiny elastic bands making two squares on each side so joining my upper and lower jaw. At night I put aligner 35 back in and swap out the elastic bands for smaller, tighter ones. It's much trickier to manage than invisalign, impossible to eat with them in but takes me about ten minutes to get all the bands in place so I avoid taking them out. I can't wait to be back in aligners and then finished but I have 6 weeks of this stage and I've only completed a week.

Having said that, I'm really pleased with the results of the plan so far and so is my orthodontist.

It’s been on my wish list for years. I have an overbite and hate it. A couple of my Facebook friends have done it and the results were brilliant. The model Ruth Crilly has recently had them and been writing and talking about it (I’ve seen it on Insta and then had a look on her blog but she is also on YouTube I think).

Sali Hughes has also wrote about her braces recently in The Guardian but actually went for fixed braces and explains her reasons why.

Wow, the difference is amazing. That’s a great result.

Oh wow you must be thrilled with that result! Your teeth look fantastic! Definitely money well spent, you must have achey cheeks from smiling so much showing off your new smile! 😁😁

TheChosenTwo · 14/05/2024 22:53

I’ve been tempted by these for a few years but I’m quite scared of the dentist and have a crown, does anyone know if you can have them if you have a crown in place?
Do you go to your normal dentist to talk about it? Sorry for the stupid questions, the results posted above all look incredible, I’ve got one tooth that’s a bit sticky outy that I’ve always hated.

Yes you can have Invisalign or similar if you have a crown. I have one crown plus two dental implants and it hasn’t stopped me having aligners. My dentist referred me to the orthodontist.

useitorlose · 20/05/2024 05:13

@TheChosenTwo I have two crowns, they're not a problem at all.

2 weeks 5 days left on my elastic band regime and counting! I've got quicker at putting them in but I still hate them with a passion.

SorrowsPrayers · 20/05/2024 05:40

I did it in my forties. Really good results and pretty easy to do once you got in the swing of it.
Fabulous weight loss as well as it stopped me eating between meals.

Oblomov24 · 20/05/2024 07:03

Was told Invisalign wouldn't work on mine, and needed old fashioned braces. Plus hated idea of wearing retainers every night for the rest of my life.

DCINightingale · 20/05/2024 07:11

Wow the results a couple of you have posted are amazing!! I will be booking my consultation soon after years of dentist avoidance. What was really nice was going to my new dentist and she was wearing invisalign.

Purplecatshopaholic · 20/05/2024 07:19

Had it done a few years ago. Similar to others cost-wise. Totally worth it.

DustyLee123 · 20/05/2024 07:20

I wish I was brave enough. I have a public facing role so worried about lisping.

Spikyplant · 20/05/2024 07:33

I've just had the upper teeth done so it was much cheaper around 1k. But I'll need bonding and whitening after too.
Didn't affect my speech at all after the first few days.
