Comfy but frumpy?

Ive tried these on and they are the most comfortable, cushioned, supportive sandals I’ve ever worn. But- can I choose comfort over style? I know they’re not the most fashion forward.
I look daft in a dress and trainers so need an every day alternative.

I'm thinking of starting a campaign to redefine "stylish items" as those we find comfortable and those things we wear to look stylish but which are a nightmare of, too tight/too high/too spiky or digging in etc, to wear as frumpy. I think we'd all be a lot happier.

I would join your campaign in a heartbeat!

Wear what you feel good in, honestly - nobody cares. The word 'frumpy' should be banished for good 😄

10-11k what planet are you on 🤣 they are not rare one bit, £150 max, they are ugly, the poster is looking for summer sandles clearly,

MerryChristmasToYou · 03/05/2024 01:35

If you like them and they're comfortable get them.
They're ok, aren't hideous and you'll wear them.

mathanxiety · 03/05/2024 01:54

One of my DDs has a pair very like those. I love them and if we had the same shoe size I'd steal them.

I'd get the black. It looks much more stylish than beige/ tan.

What a load of offensive codswallop.

Look at Remonte sandals too

DailyEnergyCrisis · 03/05/2024 07:56

Thanks everyone for your opinions- really helpful.
I bought them and actually wore them out last night with a black denim midi skirt, white t shirt and grey bomber, plus hoops and felt great.

They’re fashionable at the moment. I think a lot of the younger generation now favour comfort. My daughter came downstairs last week to go clubbing in a beautiful dress (that barely covered her arse 😂) , gorgeous hair and make up and a pair of trainers!

Oh hun, I feel so sorry for you and instead of worrying about the opinions of randoms over your choice of uncomfortable footwear, maybe consider spending your excess money on therapy to improve your self esteem?

RampantIvy · 03/05/2024 08:41

I have never been able to understand women who prefer to wear uncomfortable shoes.

Thanks to arthritis, comfort is my first priority. Comfort and style is a winner, but, sadly, I rarely find both together when it comes to footwear.

LoobyDop · 03/05/2024 08:47

I personally find clumpy-soled sandals too heavy to be properly comfortable. Fine for evenings, but no good for several hours’ sightseeing on a hot day.

Hands up everyone who thinks this poster is the one selling the trainers!

WomenStuff · 03/05/2024 09:45

I love them!

Frumpy is a state of mind imo, it's about not feeling relaxed in yourself and/ or not finding joy in your clothes. There's absolutely nothing wrong with frumpy of course! There are obviously more pressing concerns for most humans.

Ironically I find people who obsess too much about not being frumpy veer unwittingly towards being frumpy. Too fussy, not relaxed, dressing to conform rather than for personality or joy.

I have a friend who is a dancer. Dresses in clothes for comfort and movement, not a brand label in sight. Maybe her outfit alone would be described as frumpy on here. But she's not frumpy, her physical confidence shines through her everyday movement, so the clothes don't look frumpy on her.

bradpittsbathwater · 03/05/2024 10:04

Frumpy is all the rage now, enjoy them.

bradpittsbathwater · 03/05/2024 10:05

I think I would trip over with soles that thick though. I had to return DM sandals for that reason.

BigFatLiar · 03/05/2024 10:17

Hope you enjoyed your evening out in your new shoes. Makes a difference have shoes that fit and are comfortable. These days comfy is my first choice in shoes. (Still have heels for occasions but comfy rules).

I love chunky sandals, including these. They suit my preference for edgier fashion - I don't mind whether that's in or out right now - and proportionately, they balance out my thin ankles/shins and busty top half. Apart from the aesthetics, they make me feel grounded and strong.

They clearly don't give you that vibe OP, which is absolutely fair enough, we're all different. If you'll feel bad in them, don't buy them, however comfortable they are. But you must have seen that lots of young, fashiony people wear them, so I wouldn't dismiss them on grounds of frumpiness!

CoffeeCantata · 03/05/2024 12:17

But yes, prioritise comfort over fashion.

Ooh no! It's a simple matter of numbers.

If you choose comfort over style, then just one person will be happy with that choice. If you choose style over comfort, then you will improve the day of untold thousands.

There is more than one kind of comfort, and I find psychological discomfort worse than the physical variety!

I have never been able to understand women who prefer to wear uncomfortable shoes.

Joking apart, I agree in the sense that it's just not necessary. There is always an 'unfrumpy' choice which is stylish. The shoes OP is considering I don't think are frumpy - they're a certain edgy/bohemian/lagenlook (hate that term!! But..) arty/ alternative non-male-gaze-attracting/assertive look. I don't know how to say what I mean...sorry.

But you're always up against people who interpret 'frumpy' to mean not sexy or conventionally glamorous, which I think is a misunderstanding of the term. Some of the most stylish women I've ever seen have been (for eg) art curators with their charcoal linen sack dresses, bold haircuts, sandals like OPs and massive statement jewellery. They are most definitely not frumpy - but some people would say so because they're not in stilletos and a tight body-con dress.

I'm sorry, but I disagree. Having flat feet and arthritis, plus not needing to wear heels or any kind of footwear that hurts my feet, I find your views a little odd.

MerryChristmasToYou · 03/05/2024 12:45

I doubt that anyone's uncomfortable shoes would improve the day of thousands.
