Grenoble124 · 30/04/2024 20:01

Hi there,

I have plantar fasciitis and need to wear supportive shoes all the time for the moment.

I have been wearing my old running runners for the last week since my physio appointment, but need:

Something for around the house ie flip flops
Something casual ie trainers
Something I can wear to work with dresses and trousers (shoes or smart trainers).

Any advice great appreciated :-)

Thank you.

Hoka Ora recovery slide for round the house

Check sizing carefully

They are the one and only!

I have PF in one foot and arthritis in the other

Took ages to heal about 18 months and still flares up.

Squishwallow · 30/04/2024 20:16

My understanding is that fitflop is the brand you need

kaiadeluded · 30/04/2024 20:16

Buy some high arch insoles specifically for PF from Amazon- & before you buy any new trainers see if you can replace the insoles- I've found you can replace the insoles in most New Balance & Adidas trainers with them for example.
That way you can be comfortable & help with your PF plus look stylish etc.

I have bad PF and wear these high arch insoles daily. For work I have plain black Clark's trainers (I believe you can replace most Clark's insoles) as that is our uniform policy.

I have Chelsea style chunky boots too, black ones by Blowfish Malibu from Next, because they have a highish chunky heel & sole they naturally have high arch support so I don't need the insoles.

I wear ordinary adidas sliders at home which are quite comfy.
For summer, I will only wear sandals out for short periods, unless the pain really eases.

I recommend keeping a frozen 500ml bottle of water handy to roll on the bottom of your foot (wrap once in a thin towel) it really helps with pain.
Also do regular stretching exercises obviously.

Skechers flip flops work for me. Also, rolling the foot and stretching exercises.

Jeannne92 · 30/04/2024 20:49

Get some orthotics to wear inside your shoes.

Fourmagpies · 30/04/2024 20:59

I wear Fitflop slippers and wellies, and New Balance trainers and walking boots. Nothing too flat. Also have some Plantar People insoles from Amazon. My personal trainer has been giving me some exercises to strengthen my ankles and calves and stretch my feet, which is supposed to help. And I've bought a wooden roller which I have under my desk! 9 months on I'm sick of it!!! It is improving though.

Oofos for round the house - works like magic.

muddyford · 30/04/2024 21:03

I used a spiky massage ball to roll around. Absolute aging but my goodness it worked.

Spottedshell · 30/04/2024 21:09

Birkenstock Madrids as slippers

Fitflop Chelsea boots

Fitflop F Mode trainers

Hoke One One trainers for running

Skechers Arch fit sandals for warm weather walking, along with Birkies Arizonas.

It's non stop glamour round my gaff, just call me Carrie Bradshaw 😬

pyewatchet · 30/04/2024 21:16

My Fitflop Rally trainers were the only shoes I found comfortable when I had it.

Ladyprehensile · 30/04/2024 21:17

Fit flops are great around the house.
Ask GP for a referral to a podiatry clinic and get bespoke made to measure supportive inserts made for your shoes/trainers.

Use a roller or frozen bottle of water to stretch the tendons.

Could take a year to clear up.

caringcarer · 30/04/2024 21:26

I got these a couple of days ago. They are a sort of neoprene that is stretchy and wraps around and supports your feet. They are wider fit too. One of my feet gets swollen with fluid retention so I need something like this that will fit what I call my big foot and my little foot. They only cost £18.95. They had them in several colours and they are so comfortable I've ordered 3 more pairs in different colours.

I've had Achilles surgery on one foot, and big toe fusion on the other, my surgeon recommended Hoka Clifton's.
They are amazingly supportive & super comfortable.

SellFridges · 30/04/2024 21:37

I wear Crocs around the house.

LadyLooLaa · 30/04/2024 21:39

What about smarter work shoes? Does anyone have any suggestions for these?
I also have PF. I have fitflop trainers that I love, and suede boots. I have some Vionic slip on black shoes but they aren’t really smart.
So many orthotic shoes are both ugly and really expensive. I am always on the look out for recommendations.

MooBaggage · 30/04/2024 21:40

I've had PF in both feet on and off for years. I only wear Fitflop sandals and boots - they are the only thing that give relief from the pain. Expensive, but worth it!

Orangebadger · 30/04/2024 21:42

I wear Oofos, I attribute these to my healing!! They are sooooo comfy around the house.

Cantonet · 30/04/2024 21:47

I have lots of Vionic pairs of mules, heeled boots, platform trainers etc. I also have plantar Fasciitis that has seemed to have flared up in February the last two years. It's associated apparently with a lack of vitamin d & magnesium.
Vivaia do wonderful smart flats & heels with arch support & a padded sole. I've seen them on Melissa Murrell but I haven't actually tried them myself.

RaininSummer · 30/04/2024 21:48

Fit flops are the only brand I can wear if not wearing my custom insoles. Vinted have lots of their flip flops for sale.

lunepremiere79 · 30/04/2024 21:58

I wear Oofos too for another foot condition but the are recommended for any type of pain in feet

Grenoble124 · 30/04/2024 22:09

Thank you all so much. Lots of great advice and shopping to do :-)

Lots of good advice here. I pretty much cured myself a number of years ago with foot exercises, a night splint and sensible shoes, including at home. I still wear the sensible shoes. I'm size 5.5 and am giving sizes I have for info.

Trainers: Hoka Challenger (size 6, these come up small)
House shoes - winter: Fitflop Mukluk shortie I have a size 38 fir wearing with tights/thin socks and size 38.5 for wearing with thicker socks
House shoes - summer: Wolky Rio (size 39)
Shoes: Finn Comfort Ikebukuro (size 5)
Walking boots: Finn Comfort Tibet (size 5)

everythinglooksbetterpaintedblack · 30/04/2024 22:12

Around the house I wear croc sliders.
