How often do you wash your hair?

Just that really. I wash mine every other day but might start doing it every day.

2/3 times a week.

yarnwitch · 30/04/2024 15:05

Daily. I know that gets frowned upon on here but if I leave it overnight it's a disgusting greasy mess the next day that even dry shampoo won't touch.

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 30/04/2024 15:09

If wearing in its natural curls it's washed every 2-3 days

If straightening it's washed every day

GogAndMagog · 30/04/2024 15:14

Once every four days, I'm older, it's drier. I spray with glycerin rose water every day though as I worry it might be whiffy.

MorrisZapp · 30/04/2024 15:21

Every day or else I don't feel clean. I've tried so hard to shower with my hair up etc but it just feels awful. Can't enjoy the second day of a proper blow dry as it would mean not showering.

LeChatChat · 30/04/2024 15:31

Once a week in the winter and every other day in the summer (I swim a lot then). It's dyed and is in much better nick when it isn't washed often.

saraclara · 30/04/2024 15:42

I used to do it every other day. Then it became twice a week, and now it's once a week. My post menopausal hair is massively better for the weekly wash, and my hairdresser agrees. She has quite a few clients who've chosen low frequency washing and it's improved their hair.

TinselSniffer · 30/04/2024 15:43

Once a week, and I feel it looks its best after about 5 days. I don't like how fluffy and frizzy it looks after I've washed it.

I have wavy, dry, thick hair that doesn't really get greasy nowadays; whether this is because I don't wash it so often or just my age (51) I don't know.

PistachioCroissant · 30/04/2024 15:48

@TinselSniffer I'm the same as you!

I am 50 and my hair just doesn't get greasy anymore. It is long and thick and wavy but after washing it is light and fluffy, then after a few days it hangs really well.

I only wash my hair every 10-14 days now. I plait it overnight and tie it back when cooking and exercising and washing.

LaWench · 30/04/2024 16:24

Every 2-3 days. Mine is thick and wavy and coloured so I try to do it as little as possible.

weareallcats · 30/04/2024 16:34

Every day - it's really oily and even if it looks clean on the morning of the second day, it is usually looking grotty by the afternoon. I also have a double crown so it quite often looks a bit crazy once I've slept on it anyway.

tobee · 30/04/2024 16:53

Once a week. It's pretty much what I've always done.

It's interesting that people say they wouldn't feel clean if they didn't wash it every day or whatever. I can't stand it when it's longer than once a week. But maybe it's what people are used to? I wonder if it's a generational thing? I'm 56. But then I don't use the gym. I always imagine people who wash their hair every day have short hair and it's easy to wash and go? To coin a phrase! 😀

SpookedMackerel · 30/04/2024 16:54

Every day. I live in fear of the boiler breaking down.
I love the feeling of the hot water, and the smell of the soap, the warm refreshed clean feeling afterwards, I would hate to give it up.

I know it’s not great for the environment, but it is my main indulgence.

People used to say that washing it so frequently encourages the oiliness. But maybe that's baloney?

CorinneA42 · 30/04/2024 16:57

Every two days if curly, but I can go 5/6 days without washing it if I have straighten it (with some dry shampoo in between washes)

Interesting I love the feeling of the washing my hair too but kind of like the treat of doing it once a week. It feels more indulgent to me that way!

These aren't criticisms. Just idly interested in our differences.

Vettrianofan · 30/04/2024 16:58

Every other day.

sweetpickle2 · 30/04/2024 16:58

Every time I've been to the gym, so 3-4 times a week.

I would like it every day in theory but it dries my hair out something rotten.

tobee · 30/04/2024 16:59

For full disclosure, my hair is very thin and it used to seem to fall out a lot in the shower which puts me off.

ItsAllMadness24 · 30/04/2024 17:07

I use to do it every day but my hairdresser wasn't happy with that frequency when I started going blonde and said twice a week at most. I do it every three days and I've changed to a shampoo and conditioner that's free of sulphates and silicone and don't get product build up, never looks greasy and it smells fresh for days.

DragonFly98 · 30/04/2024 17:08

Every 7-10 days I don't understand how people find the time to wash daily. The whole process takes me over an hour.

bryceQ · 30/04/2024 17:10

Once a week I have really long, wavy hair that never gets greasy. I wash it when I can't smell the shampoo anymore.

I know it sounds a bit disgusting & it took awhile to get used to (was previously a every 2nd day hairwasher) but once a week. Apparently, it's better for your hair.

This is what I do too. Allowing the oils to coat your hair keeps it in really good condition. Washing it everyday just dries it out

HeraSyndulla · 30/04/2024 17:15

Daily.

henlake7 · 30/04/2024 17:48

Every 5-7 days at the moment. Will probably be more often in the summer if I get a sweaty head!
