How old were you...

When you started Botox and other treatments like that (directed at those who do have them done, obviously!) I'm thinking of starting now (36) I've heard the earlier the less frequently you need to have it done? I think I'm aging terribly, (I'm a squinter) I spent my 20s with acne so would really like to enjoy my face a little longer!

(Sorry I know I can google but I really like to have personal opinion and experiences!)

This is what skin and me prescribed for me. I am finding it really makes my skin luminous. I've stopped wearing foundation as don't really need to atm.

@CampervanKween thank you, what kind of product is it? Like a serum? How often do you use?

The thing that worries me about Botox is that some celebs who have it have eyebrow collapse, eg Simon Cowell, and though they lose the 11s, they get wrinkles elsewhere!
Luckily, even at my advanced age I have no 11s, not many forehead lines and only slight crows feet, so I’ll not bother with Botox yet! I do find it surprising that women in their 20s are getting Botox. Apart from it being an expensive habit to maintain, do they really need it ?I’ve heard the argument that if you have it while you’re you’re young, the deep wrinkles won’t form, but you’d have to have it regularly for years, and I don’t know if that’s a good idea.

Argh so annoying, tried the consultation a couple of times and tret just isn't coming up for me 🤬

  1. I've had forehead lines since I was a teenager and now notice on tv shows etc that most teens do! They're just less noticeable without the other signs of aging. Anyway I was just looking tired and grumpy all the time. Started getting botox and just look fresher. Not younger. Don't want to look young, want to look like me.

Can you use tret at the same time as Botox?

There’s loads about Tretinoin online. It’s not available over the counter, only by prescription. Lots of products containing retinol OTC, but it’s not as effect as tret. You can buy it from abroad especially Spain and France, but I don’t feel secure doing that. You can have an online consultation from Dermatica or Skin and Me in the U.K. and they will prescribe a formula for your skin, sent monthly for £24.99. They will periodically ask for photos of your skin, and ask questions to see if it’s ok for you; if so they will continue the plan. It’s not cheap, but it’s effective

FakeMiddleton · 01/05/2024 18:24

@CommeUneVacheEspagnole - yes you can

JollyPollysjolly · 01/05/2024 18:46

at 40 I started trying Botox in my 11’s, then moved to 11’s, forehead and crows feet every 4 or so months. Looking back at pictures I can’t quite explain it but I don’t look great/ certainly not frozen, just a bit expressionless or empty eyed. No one ever asked if I’d had it done, so maybe no one noticed, or they were too polite to say. Now (44) get Botox very lightly about once a year. I've heard that it’s important to let it completely wear off and have a good wiggle of all your muscles before you have another treatment and to me that makes sense. I’ve recently bought an LED face mask and use retinol and aha’s so am hoping to cut back even more on Botox.
so my(very limited and unscientific) advice is try it, look at photos (not selfies- I looked great in those- but photos by others is where I could see a slight uncanny look) and let it wear off completely before your next dose!

bryceQ · 01/05/2024 20:35

The skin and me percentages of Tret are really low I prefer Dermatica I've used it for 4 years now. You can use it and have botox it just increases the cellular turnover in your skin so you look fresher and your skin is better. You need to wear Spf if you use it.

Yes this is good advice. I agree on the ‘empty eye’ look. I think crows feet are a tricky area - I actually prefer it when my crows feel start to come back. I look a bit happier! I just don’t like all my crows feet - there’s a sweet spot somewhere that’s tricky to find.

OP don’t have it every 3 months. Let it fully wear off. Every 6 months is better.

I also agree Dermatics is better (if you can tolerate) than Skin & Me. The doses are higher.

norma1980 · 01/05/2024 20:56

What do you ask for if you want to move your forehead slightly - baby Botox?

I've had the frozen look before and I didn't like it. It lasted longer and had a nice smooth forehead but it was really noticeable and I can immediately tell when others have had it done now

user09876543 · 02/05/2024 06:58

I always have baby Botox and can still move my forehead completely but a good practitioner should tailor it to you. They should make you pull all sorts of faces and just sit watching you as you talk for a while so they can see what your muscles do dnd what needs freezing. It isn’t a one size fits all solution. I have nothing in the elevens position between my eyebrows because I have no lines there. I have more across the front of my forehead where my natural lines are deep.

fatphalange · 02/05/2024 11:42

I've just signed up for and paid the Dermatica subscription only to have been told I'm being sent vit c products :/ I asked for and am only interested in tretinoid/retinol products. Vit C doesn't fit into my skincare routine unless used once in a while and then I adapt what I use around it. So annoying!

I’m sure if you tell them they would change it for you, unless there’s some reason why they think it wouldn’t work for you. They assess what you need according to how you answer the questions.

Tell them that’s wrong and you don’t want the Vitamin C.

aldpiahvge · 07/05/2024 18:28

What percentage of tret does Dermatica do, skin and me is only giving me 0.006%

Delatron · 07/05/2024 18:39

I get 0.05% with Dermatica. So much stronger but I did work up to this.

bryceQ · 07/05/2024 22:08

For Dermatica I had used Medik8 crystal Retinol for a year before I started. I began on 0.015 and then moved to 0.05 then to 0.1 but I then went back and decided 0.05 suits my dry tenancy skin best and I have no issues. This was over about 6 months I went up.

norma1980 · 12/05/2024 19:49

With Botox can you get only forehead done and crows feet but not the 11s?

I went for a consultation and she said the 11s had to be done if doing forehead as would leave forehead imbalanced so basically you had to pay for at least 2 areas . I'd wanted just crows feet and forehead.

Scrumbleton · 12/05/2024 20:28

Started Botox about 52 - get it done by a Dr and looks v natural. I've had a couple of collagen booster treatments- I'm 60 now and look very good for my age.
