When you started Botox and other treatments like that (directed at those who do have them done, obviously!) I'm thinking of starting now (36) I've heard the earlier the less frequently you need to have it done? I think I'm aging terribly, (I'm a squinter) I spent my 20s with acne so would really like to enjoy my face a little longer!

I started Tretinoin at 29, that works really well for me

wpalfhal · 30/04/2024 07:19

Off to Google Tretinoin, I'm just always a bit dubious of topical treatments!

Never have and no plans to. I'm 56.

RampantIvy · 30/04/2024 07:37

@wpalfhal why do you squint?
Have you had an eye test recently, and why don't you wear sunglasses in bright weather?

Hereforthedramaz · 30/04/2024 07:41

I had my elevens done when I was mid 30s.

By a Dr who I completely trust and honestly you wouldn't have known, I just stopped looking like I was thinking wtf all the time! (I'm still thinking it obviously though)

No regrets

wpalfhal · 30/04/2024 07:50

@RampantIvy it's a good question! I don't know why I do it I've just noticed I do it a lot, when I'm concentrating at work or driving I will notice my face in a tight grimace and squinting ha. I wear glasses and have regular eye tests so I think it's a habit rather than an eyesight issue! Although I should wear my contacts more so I can wear sunglasses more when it's actually sunny, not much of an issue atm.

May I ask how much a Botox treatment costs on average?

fatphalange · 30/04/2024 08:09
  1. It worked great to prevent any lines/wrinkles although I'll never know whether that was down to the Botox or genetics. Haven't had anything done for years now although I'm considering a little bit doing between my brows to look a bit fresher

Same here!

Except started mid forties after a rough few years, makes the world of difference. It's now £175 a pop for my one area by my doc though, so not a cheap indulgence, but I get my hair done rarely to compensate.

elevens24 · 30/04/2024 08:27

I started having Botox around age 37/38. I have it every 8-9 months on 3 areas. Costs £250 from a doctor at a clinic. My face is not frozen and I just look brighter and less tired.

For the past year I've also been having monthly facial treatments. I mix it up so hydrafacual, micro needling or hydra facial. I'm currently having a course of BBL (laser) which targets skin damage, rosacea etc. I've had 2 and the results have been great. I'll have once more then a Moxi to finish off.

I have a good daily skincare regime.

Okayornot · 30/04/2024 12:54

42 when I had tear trough fillers which were disappointing

47 I started botox which is good but wears off within 6 weeks for me. Wish I had started earlier .

I also did Profilho a couple of times but not impressed (and it really stings!). Now saving for a facelift, necklift and upper eyelids as there is no longer any point in fiddling around the edges.

MsSquiz · 30/04/2024 13:07

I'm 37 and had my first Botox 2 months ago on 2 areas of my forehead.

These show the difference after 2 weeks

I went out with a friend the other day who had it done, I honestly couldn't look her in a face, she looked like a startled rabbit caught in a headline. She used to be very pretty but she honestly looked dreadful.

Riverlee · 30/04/2024 17:55

50s - never.

And so your post is of 0% relevance!

I was 40 OP, now 47 and have botox probably twice a year and love it.

CommeUneVacheEspagnole · 30/04/2024 18:11

For those that have had Botox, how did you find the right practitioner? I've been looking and I thought I managed to find someone but realised they had spelt their name wrong on an advert and if they have that lack of attention to detail, I don't want them touching my face. Some seem to only do excessive treatments and some I can't tell they had anything done. I want natural.

If anyone can recommend anyone around Northamptonshire, I'd be keen to hear.

Refhairandhottubs · 30/04/2024 18:16

I'm 48 and started having it last year. I don't have a lot of lines so the effect is very subtle, I just look fresher, more awake and my make up sits better. When I've told friends that I've had it done, they all say that they wouldn't have known (not frozen!)

I found my practitioner through recommendations from people I know.

Delatron · 30/04/2024 19:44

Started cautiously at 43. Had Botox a few times. Then decided I didn’t like, took a year off. Tried again. I try not to have more frequently than 6-9 months.

Botox is good for crows feet but will not help under eye lines (in fact it can make them worse by pushing the lines here). I also find with Botox because I can’t frown as well I scrunch my eyebrows up and get new lines under my eyebrows. So I still don’t think it’s that amazing. I like it best around month 2-3 where it’s wearing off.

There are other treatments to try such as profhilo, polynucleotides (which can be done around the eyes), and neo gen plasma (also good for around the eyes and can actually be done on the lids too).

You have to be careful with Botox as you get older - too smooth a forehead looks incongruous when other parts are starting to sag.

user09876543 · 30/04/2024 19:54

35 and have had it roughly twice a year ever since but my practitioner uses a very light touch so I can still move my eyebrows etc. I'm now 50 and have very few wrinkles.

I had fillers for the first time at age 50.

wpalfhal · 30/04/2024 20:53

Thanks all, when you say light touch is that the skill of the practitioner or the amount they use?

Noted about Botox, a friend has mentioned lumi eyes?

OP posts:
Neverpostagain · 30/04/2024 21:05

55, botox, 11s only.
Obviously at that age I already had -and still have - those frown line wrinkles, but the are lessening over time as I can no longer add to them by frowning. I can still raise my eyebrows though.

Ineedaholidayyyy · 30/04/2024 21:06

I'm mid 30s, had a baby face for years but over the last few years I feel like I've aged a lot, probaby due to my child!

I've got a deep line (just one) next to my eyebrow that I hate, and crows feet. I have a few lines on my forehead but they aren't too noticeable and they don't bother me. My attitude to botox is never say never, I do think I will be temped in a few years, but I would probably start with baby botox. I'm am holding out for a while longer though , not sure why but I feel like 30s is still young for botox.

CampervanKween · 30/04/2024 21:41

I'm 54 and just had my first light botox. Really pleased with it, very fresh and natural. Just makes me look more rested. Not frozen at all.

I've also started on tret I'm using skin and me. Did the month's trial and really pleased so carrying on. Link is here for you to get a trial (and I get £10 off next month I think as well)

wpalfhal · 01/05/2024 16:28

Hi all, so had my consultation, she was really lovely. I'd like to do 3 areas (forehead, crows feet and 11s) I was thinking of having the first 2 lots 12 weeks apart, then every 6 months, does that sound feasible?

And I'm also going to go for lumi eyes every 9 months.

OP posts:
wpalfhal · 01/05/2024 16:37

And what's this tret everyone keeps talking about? I did a skin + me consult and it didn't seem to come up in the active ingredients of the things recommended to me?
