What shoes / acessories to wear with this dress? (Posh do, but working)

I'm going to be working at a posh do. My dress is almost identical to these, and I'm large / curvy, in case it makes a difference.

I'd normally wear heels, but I'll be hosting / working at the event so on my feet A LOT.

Can anyone recommend some nice flats that would go, or a heel that's not going to cause me pain if I'm on my feet for hours?

Any tips on accessorising also gratefully received!

Thanks :)

Oh, I should also say, the evening will be both inside and on a lawn, so sharply pointed heels would be no good I guess.

Not sure… just wanted to say what a gorgeous dress OP!

Maybe a nice gold necklace ?
Gold bracelet?

Esska for comfy heels

Dress is stunning. Have a look at Arche shoes if you can find some in the sale. I got some lovely fancy low wedge heeled Arche shoes for my wedding and they were really comfortable. And I only ever wear flats and have really fussy feet!

Thanks! It's not exactly the dresses above, it basically looks like the close up one (which is in the shops just now, I'll post a link if I can remember where I saw it), but with the length of the second one.

It's DKNY, was £150 reduced to £40 at TK Maxx last summer and I love it! It travels really well too, you can just sling it in a suitcase and it comes out ready to wear.

When I've worn it before it's been to very casual parties and I've dressed it down with chunky boots because I still dress like a teenager This it its first outing at a proper posh do.

Thanks for the recommendations, will look them up now...

Please feel free to be frank, I need some help here!

But do you think I could get away with a boot, something like this? From a comfort point of view, they look great. But does it go, in any sense? (Not necessarily in this colour, just wondering about the general style).

The Esska shoes are really lovely but I'm gravitating towards the platform heels like these as I love the look of them, but I need to remind myself that very high heels is a BAD IDEA as I won't be able to walk by the end of the night, which will be an issue as I do need to be on my feet.

Would flats like this work? I can't see it myself, but I find it hard to imagine how things go together.

Surely there must be some kind of flat style that would be ok?

Esska is out of my price range btw!

But I'm hoping, if I can work out what kind of style would work with the pricier brands, that'll be a good start at least, and maybe I'll get lucky with a sale or finding a cheaper copy.

Good advice to Google Mary Janes, thanks!

What do you think to these? I think I could probably cope with a more sensible heel like this (or am I kidding myself here?!)

But are these dressy enough?

FWIW, they're a great price.

Hmm, the heels are getting higher aren't they??

Maybe I can wear a heel for the start of the evening and change into a ballet pump when everyone has drunk too much wine to care they get too much.

A similar shoe in gold...

Haha, DD has just suggested these. Which is 100% my comfort zone, exactly what I'd wear to a friend's party.

But I need to actually dress like an adult for this event, not an overgrown teenager like I usually do, which is why I do desperately need S&B help!

Maybe the best bet is to try a heeled pair (one of the ones you posted) but also take some flats with you in case your feet start hurting.

I think the gold boots are fabulous but would you wear them again?

sosickofbeingskint · 28/04/2024 10:50

Are Moshulu generally comfortable or a cheaply made shoe?

OP posts:
fernsandlilies · 28/04/2024 10:50

Incredibly comfortable, it’s their brand definition

Shetlands · 28/04/2024 10:51

I've just bought some moshulu boots - very comfortable - made here in the UK. What size are you and what is your budget?

poetryandwine · 28/04/2024 11:05

OP,

I love the boots but I think they will give a less formal vibe. The various Mary Janes are good.

I offer this with trepidation, but British Vogue online is saying that platforms and wedges are back for Spring and Summer. They are certainly more comfortable and easier on the lawn…..

Size 6 and as cheap as possible (my username will give a hint as to my financial situation!) but as I have to wear something on my feet to this event, I will just have to suck it up if I don't manage to find a bargain. Still hopeful at this point though...

I 've found a thicker sole to absorb the shock and a slight heel is more comfortable over the hours.

One of the shoe boot styles might be less prissy if clumpy boots are your thing. Thus sort of thing although not necessarily animal print.

Of the ones you posted so far, the gold mary-jane heels or the green boots would be best with that dress. The others are too 'workday' for such a glamorous dress.

Depending on your colouring you could go silver rather than gold if you wanted.

Oliver Bonas has a few gold options, eg:

https://www.oliverbonas.com/accessories/mary-jane-gold-leather-slingbacks-363169#selection.color=1998

I do usually wear silver rather than gold.

So the green Mary Janes are too work-ish?

I did wonder. This is why I need S&B.Grin

Shame, I was very tempted, they're on sale for just £35 in the green! (£90 in the sale for some of the other colours).

Will they definitely not do? Such a bargain!
