A green dress

I have lots of lovely dresses but this hypothetical wedding would need to be very tolerant of: brogues, DMs, trainers. We Do Not Do Heels.

@TheFormidableMrsC
FFS I can read the question!

Sorry I didn't mean to suggest otherwise. I was just curious. No offence intended.

OK, sorry I overreacted. I don't own anything wedding-suitable. I would buy formal trousers and a jacket if needed, something that would also do for funerals if possible.

Purplecatshopaholic · 23/04/2024 07:43

I have quite a few clothes and I tend to keep everything so I would have a rummage and decide depending on location, time of year, etc. High heels would be a given, lol.

Current wardrobe - a blue midi dress and low block heels

I have had my eye on this but unfortunately it's out of my budget:

Urgh, I think I'll make up an excuse and not go

Giggorata · 23/04/2024 10:48

I have a few nice wedding/occasion outfits, if I can still fit into them!

2chocolateoranges · 23/04/2024 19:09

I’d wear a navy Bardot fit and flare dress with rose gold bag and shoes.

wore it to a wedding last year and felt great in it, so much so I bought it in black and purple too.

mathanxiety · 23/04/2024 20:02

Nehru style jacket in embroidered olive-grey-green silk (has elaborate birds and whatnot; colour depends on the light), black cigarette pants, slingback/ peeptoe stilettos in black patent. Also a smart black bag.

Garlicked · 23/04/2024 20:17

This - it's silk, I've had it for years, and it comes with a little bolero jacket (if I can find it) - my 'good if I've got to look smart' dress. I've also got a long, pleated, flowery silk number but have gone off it without having worn it! Should probably waft down the shops in that, just to get some use of it.

I'm consumed with envy of @IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle's options. If I really do get a wedding invitation, I'll probably bust several guts to emulate one of them within my budget.

Nothing, I'm pregnant and my dresses won't fit! 😭 Funnily enough I'm supposed to be going to a wedding around my due date in July, so I'm hoping I can find something suitable in that time that isn't a sweaty polyester mess!

dayslikethese1 · 24/04/2024 05:53

I have a long silky burnt orange and teal dress and I'm waiting to be invited to another wedding so I can wear it. Have some cream flats or black sandals to go with (don't do heels like a previous poster). Got a clutch bag around somewhere too.

mondaytosunday · 24/04/2024 07:24

Go to go dressy outfit is black base layer and then cut out velvet jacket (or other evening style jacket) and nice jewellery.

BreadAndWineFeelingFine · 24/04/2024 09:30

Oh I forgot!! I do have an outfit that fits! A silk top in a muted yellow with an oriental flowers pattern, and a black velvet skirt. I'd wear my black shoes (not too high) with a diamante strap and carry the evening bag that my grandmother made many years ago.

HideTheCroissants · 25/04/2024 21:12

I have several dresses that would be fine for a wedding. If I was going to a wedding this weekend I would wear a dress I bought last spring. It’s a multi coloured linen dress from Hobbs. I have pashminas in various colours that would go with and the same with shoes - I’d just have to decide which colour in the dress to pick out.

mitogoshi · 25/04/2024 21:16

Kneel length printed silk dress - bought for wedding 2 months ago (I'm cheating)

BigBoysDontCry · 25/04/2024 21:16

I literally have nothing.

In the last year I've gone from a size 12/14 to an 8. I'm 5'10 so it's not an ideal weight for me so I've not really replenished my wardrobe again yet as I'm hoping to go up a size.

I have jeans or a pair of work trousers to pair with a casual blouse or t shirt or sweatshirt.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 25/04/2024 21:35

Depends on the type of wedding. Plenty of red, green or black dresses from midi-maxi, couple of patterned midis, couple of dark blue, one black + a print, one white with black floral, a favourite right now for when being covered is more appropriate is a longsleeved black broderie midi.

However, I'm pretty sure every single one will fall foul of some wedding guest rule or another, as the rules change depending upon who is posting.

CrushingOnRubies · 25/04/2024 21:40

For a few blue floral dresses so probably one of them or a pale pink shirt sleeve dress and matching jacket.

Depends on weather and how posh a wedding we are talking .

DisforDarkChocolate · 25/04/2024 21:44

I have far to many clothing options but I'm not so good on accessories or grooming.

Numph dress I've had for about 3 years and never worn.

Silkymum · 25/04/2024 21:44

A pink maxi dress with flat sandals, or a leopard jumpsuit with some ankle boots

Ponderingwindow · 25/04/2024 21:56

I’ve got everything from spring florals to sparkly velvet numbers so I would be good for anything other than NYC at the Plaza kind of wedding for a dress.

im going to wear clunky shoes because my feet hurt all the time so my old faithfuls would be put into service almost certainly.

what I lack is a bag. I haven’t been to a wedding or similar event since I started carrying epipens and other allergy supplies everywhere and and none of my old bags are big enough

toucaninjapan · 25/04/2024 23:49

I'll wear this dress. Only wore it once for some family photos when I was pregnant

Floral silk jumpsuit from Whistles

KeinLiebeslied54321 · 26/04/2024 06:16

I don't tend to go to weddings unless it's someone I'm really close to, and in that case I'd buy something new/new to me.
