Hair product help- menopausal, thin, frizzy

Needapadlockonmyfridge · 13/04/2024 08:55

I have always had thin hair, but it is getting worse. (Thanks menopause).

Recommendations please for hair product(s) to use to blow dry. Currently using Tresemme heat protect spray and then a mousse at roots (found Worthington Thicker/Fuller one made it frizzy, have gone back to V05 but it isn't great).

Hair is just below chin length, if that makes a difference?

I take Perfectil supplement, too. Not sure if it is making any difference but will keep taking it in case!

Thank you :)

My hair really likes John Frieda weightless Frizz Ease serum

JoeLovesGina · 13/04/2024 10:07

I've been using Champo on a friend's recommendation (shampoo, conditioner and growth serum). It makes it less frizzy, but not sure if it actually looks any thicker yet (4 weeks in).

Like you my hair is getting very thin and fragile. I eat really well and am generally healthy so it's definitely just aging that's doing it.

The Champo stuff is expensive but I'm getting desperate!

I like the new Garnier Hair Food for getting the frizz under control, the ones in the big tubs that come in all different flavours, think the pink & green one is for fine hair, I use the coconut, it says on the tubs which type of hair. Try taking a biotin supplement for thinning, I've found it helps. Plantur shampoo though not sure how well it works, probably had a bit less on the brush after using that.

redcess · 13/04/2024 10:35

My hair is similar, I have really put some effort in over the last year and have had decent results.

  • take a biotin supplement. Really cheap ones from Amazon, could see a difference in a couple of months
  • deep conditioning treatment once a week. Any brand all seem to have similar impact
-use a volumising shampoo - more premium the brand the better (oribe is the best but mega expensive)
  • before blow dring use 4 products, heat protector, volumising spray, aveda damage remedy lotion, volumising cream (tiny amount)
  • after blow dring I put the top section up in rollers for 10 mins
  • have been getting a decent more regular hair cut with no layers in it, just blunt cut
All sounds like a lot of effort but I have seen a big impact!

I'm struggling with this too. Mine is thin and frizzy yet also horribly greasy at the roots. It's a bloody nightmare at the moment so following with interest. I had wondered if it was a peri menopause thing

Needapadlockonmyfridge · 13/04/2024 11:05

Thanks all.
I shall investigate.

Am using hair food in big tub already , banana I think. It seems better with that but still not good!

My supplement does contain biotin (it is a skin, hair, nails one.

Thank you for all the recommendations- I will get shopping 😀

Ive just bought this - it’s currently 3 for 2 in Boots. Ive used all 3 products. It seems to have made a bit of a difference.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/126411953366?var=0&mkevt=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=710-53481-19255-0&campid=5338268676&toolid=10044&customid=EAIaIQobChMIgeGS_fe-hQMVsJRQBh0Y-QBgEAQYBCABEgL2vPD_BwE

I tried that and it wasn't bad, but I absolutely hated the smell, so much that I can't bring myself to use it again!

Brillopadhair · 13/04/2024 11:16

I have always had fine hair but pre menopause it was so sleek and shiny, it really was lovely condition, now my hair is my user name, it really has turned into fine coarse wire wool and nothing seems to help, it’s a difficult combination because I still need volume/body as it’s fine (and still gets greasy at the roots), but volume products make it worse. I hate brushing my hair it’s sounds and feels like I’m dragging a brush through barbed wire.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 14/04/2024 11:07

My hair is menopausal , greying , and after hair loss through illness growing back wavy .
I am glad it is growing back as you can imagine . I had areas of too-much-scalp and what was there stuck out like fuzzy cotton wool.
Then from my scalp the re growth has distinct corrugated look .

Olaplex - ( 0+3 then the 4+5 . I did have a samle of the oil but DD took that) every fortnight or so
Moroccon oil as a pre wash alternate week .

It has improved the texture and I'm just having to embrace the waviness

tobee · 14/04/2024 13:43

As recommended here Bed Hair Queen for a Day by TIGI cosmetically seems to help with the thin look. But probably not so good for the frizz. It's not terrible it's just not smooth.

Bobbybobbins · 14/04/2024 14:29

Mine is better if I don't blow dry it - drying it seems to make it more frizzy and brittle.

Needapadlockonmyfridge · 28/04/2024 12:07

Thanks to recommendations here, have bought the John Frieda Pro Filler shampoo, conditioner and spray.

So far so good, hair definitely feels fuller.

I have also bought a collagen supplement (I already take biotin). May as well throw everything at it 😀

Is that range still
working well?

i find that first couple uses stuff works well then it stops.

My hair Is horrid and thin and frizzy.

lapochette · 22/05/2024 23:35

I found Aveda Invati hair system which consists of shampoo, conditioner and a product that is massaged into your scalp has really helped my hair.

I have tried almost everything out there.

Olapllex 3 is good but really only for bleached hair.

Aveda invanti is also good.
Nioxin thinning hair system is very good. Can buy it in TK Maxx sometimes.

My regime and has been this for a while-
Aveda damage control shampoo, any cheap conditioner on the ends. Finish with a cold rinse.
Rosemary oil on the scalp/3 times a week. Hair mask 2/wk. Any mask is fine. The banana one is good- garnier?

styling
inkey list BCA Bond repair treatment on damp hair through the mid lengths and ends.
Aveda thickening tonic- spray all
over then comb through with a bamboo comb let hair air dry for a little bit then dry on a cool and fast
setting with my parlux hair dryer. This is key- a powerful hair dryer will dry it fast with limited damage. I use a huge barrel brush to give body.
if I am going out out sometimes I use Bastise dry shampoo on the ends to give my hair some grip/texture/thickness. This really works.
hair cuts often into a blunt cut. No bleaching.

I also take a biotin supplement.

Seems to be!

Good to know! I’ll check it out.

My problem is that many of the defrizz products are too heavy on my hair. It is very thin.

Wow that’s a lot of care!

Maybe I’m not doing enough.

The dry shampoo on ends of your hair- does that then add weight to it so it doesn’t blow about outside? A minute outside and I look like I’ve been in a wind tunnel.

Peclet · 23/05/2024 09:22

Hi!

yes it is a lot- but also my hair since having kids has been thin and fluffy so yeah the Bastise gives it some body/weight.

I don’t like volume at the roots and then little spindly wiafy ends- so the Aveda thickening tonic is the best product I have found to give all of my hair a boost not just a root lift. I buy my Aveda shampoo from Amazon (£60 for 1litre) and the thickening spray from asos when they have a 20% off.

However if you are a first time
buyer from Aveda you’ll get a code and, and if you buy a couple
of things they are pretty generous with the free gifts.

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 23/05/2024 09:36

@Peclet thanks for sharing your regime

I also don’t like the body at roots and thin ends. That’s what the hairdresser would always do and I hated how imbalanced my hair would look.

Yes having children made my hair more fluffy. Then I had cancer and a lot of stress so my hair really took a battering. Plus I didn’t look after it at all. So I’m hoping it’s not too late to salvage something.

Never too late!

Hope you’re cancer free now and feeling a lot better. 😌

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 23/05/2024 12:18

Thank you! I am now ten years since! Which feels weird. And discharged!

Yes you’re right - never too late.
Getting better hair is my summer task.

How you you use Rosemary oil on the scalp? Do you mix it with other oils?
So hairs gets washed every time you use the rosemary oil
