When you get awful items on Vinted! What to do!

MissisSmiley · 09/04/2024 20:29

I am a newbie on Vinted and most recently have bought four accessories (priced £25, £35, £32 and £80 on there from four different sellers.

Two of the items have been great, the sellers were lovely and I have given the sellers great reviews.

The other two – not so much.

One was clearly not “new” as advertised. The other has been photographed misleadingly. Both were very rude when I politely raised my issues with them after receiving.

I am finding it impossible to leave reviews before saying the purchase was OK which it wasn’t or else start a claim that I know will be long winded and stressful.

I’ve never had these problems with EBay and their review system was also easier to navigate. I found both of those two sellers on Vinted very confrontational in their approach to me, actually rude, again not something I’ve encountered on EBay.

Just venting I guess … Obviously I shall be much more careful in future ...

Click that there is a problem and get it sorted. If it’s not as described then you will get a refund. Don’t just accept it! You can’t leave a review first. You can only do they after the sale has been completed (or refunded).

Afraidofthedarke · 09/04/2024 20:33

Also, I don’t spend more than probably £15 on anything on Vinted tbh. Just incase I was stung. I normally spend less than £5 but I do mostly buy adult and children’s things.

Yes, the penny has just dropped after I posted, funnily enough. It’s best only for low price items really.

The two I buyers I complained to : one said basically ✌️ so sue me. The other one just ignored my message anyway. You only get a very short time to decide what to do - 48 hours I think.

One of the items I quite like even though it’s obviously been used and smells of mould 😩 though it’s meant to be brand new - my arse. But if I clean it up it could be OK. But they got away with charging a “new without tags” price.

Oh well. I’m tryna move on!!! Just don’t like being hoodwinked either. What’s the saying - buyer beware.

I wouldn’t click that everything’s ok then if it isn’t. Don’t let them get away with it! I also only buy from people with good reviews.

MartinLewisIsAmazing · 09/04/2024 21:10

I think Vinted is a world apart from eBay in terms of the protection it offers.

LaCerbiatta · 09/04/2024 21:10

Lesson learned - new without tags means used. Just hopefully in a decent condition.....

And those items that have a tag that loops around the label? Yes, usually used as well...

Afraidofthedarke · 09/04/2024 21:11

Oh and definitely leave them a 1 star review even if you get a refund! Not fair if they’re doing it to others too.

I will be leaving bad reviews, don’t worry! It’s not just that the items were misrepresented - they were so bloody bolshy about it!

Of course they’ll probably retaliate and give me a bad review*. Couldn’t care less. I’m new too :)

I now notice a couple of stroppy replies to a couple of their bad reviews (even though most of them were good). It’s a massive 🚩!

I don't do anything because I would never spend that amount on vinted.

I never knew.

Just click there’s a problem and you can get a refund, although annoyingly you have to pay return postage so for a low cost item it might not be worth it.

It’s worth checking sellers have decent reviews before buying, I’ve normally been lucky with what I’ve bought but I have had a couple of things clearly listed as new when they were falling apart!

Someone once sent me an outfit that had about 5 small stains on, none of which were mentioned in the ‘very good’ description. Tried to claim that she was a struggling mum just trying to make a bit of cash etc. I didn’t back down (I mean I’m not exactly loaded myself hence using Vinted!)
Think she thought I’d go away but in the end she sent me a refund and I didn’t have to post it back and it was settled. Hopefully you get your refund too although it’s a very annoying policy of Vinted that most sellers make you return it first at your own expense.

MissisSmiley · 09/04/2024 21:19

So, in my naivety, I’m also trying to warn others perhaps.

OP posts:
MissisSmiley · 09/04/2024 21:22

@Changingplace one of them has told me in no uncertain terms she will not refund and she will refute my claims. (I tried to nicely negotiate).

I've had real issues with items smelling of mold from Vinted. I think I've had it 3 times in total. Luckily they've all been fairly cheap. It's tricky as you can't provide evidence over email of something stinking!

Ignore her, take photos of all issues and a screen shot of how it was described and follow up with vinted directly - do not click ‘all is ok’ if it’s not.

Anjo2011 · 09/04/2024 21:31

It’s so annoying isn’t it. The only worn a few times, therefore new description massively pisses me off. If it’s worn it’s not new. I’ve been lucky overall but my limit is £20. I did get a new no tags top for my DD and when it arrived it looked like a cat had been sleeping on it. It was definitely not new, I queried and was told worn a few times and then used as a cat bed. I cut my losses because I would have had to pay the return postage and left her negative feedback. There are lots of great items but there’s always the rogues.

Twofifty · 09/04/2024 21:33

I received an item which was ripped in several places but had been described as perfect. The seller told me to relist it and they'd buy it back from me! That seemed dodgy so I didn't do anything and put it down to a bad experience, it wasn't expensive enough to be worth paying postage to return it but that's what bad sellers bank on I suppose.

Afraidofthedarke · 09/04/2024 21:34

It’s always worth asking if the seller will send you a refund without you having to return it as twice people have done that when I’ve asked as I think they understood they were in the wrong and didn’t want the bad review!

Screamingabdabz · 09/04/2024 21:34

I bought ‘new’ shoes which looked really clean and as if they could be new, but I could smell her feet as soon as I opened the parcel. Yuck. I threw them away and wrote off the money (£15). I didn’t bother to complain for all the ‘hassle’ reasons you’ve outlined op and didn’t quite realise I had to complain in a very short timeframe anyway. Caveat emptor I guess - I’m very circumspect what I buy from Vinted now (hardly anything).

yarnwitch · 09/04/2024 21:41

Vinted refunded me almost instantly when I raised an issue with an item, it was far easier than raising a complaint on eBay

Irrelevant what she says as you have proof she misrepresented

RadRad · 09/04/2024 22:33

This could happen both ways, I sold a kid’s jacket and was asked for a refund because of a very small hole on the hoodie which I honestly hadn’t seen, it was that small, but the issue was described by the buyer as a “large rip”, I didn’t want to argue and refunded the money, and also let them keep the jacket, I bet you it’s in use now as honestly the “rip” was so small and it was a nice brand, so I think sometimes buyers can “overreact” to keep the goods for free.
Always go for sellers and buyers with many 5*.

A hole is a hole and IMO completely devalues the item. Especially resale price.
