Comfortable but nice sandals

Popsicle30 · 09/04/2024 13:58

I’m looking for a pair of sandals that I can walk around in that are comfortable but not too big/chunky.

I do like a footbed style but open to other ideas. I’d be wearing them on a summer city break and for general use over summer.

Ideally tan or black colour. Budget, ideally under £90.

Suggestions welcomed.

I like Moshulu but mostly came in here to look at other suggestions. My comfy leather sandles are about give up on me and I'd rather have more padding this time round.

The last leather sandals I got a wet r from new look btw and have lasted 10 years!

NotMeekNotObedient · 12/04/2024 22:40

Birkenstocks! I would wear them all day every day if I could. I've done city breaks, backpacking, beach holidays in them. They are so comfortable and last forever.

Hopestreetfan · 12/04/2024 23:47

Birkenstocks, but can only walk far in the ones that have ankle straps - there's a few styles like that.

NCfor24 · 12/04/2024 23:53

Moshulu...I have rainbow ginger ale style and wore them everywhere last summer and will do again this year.

Popsicle30 · 13/04/2024 08:13

Thanks! Some great suggestions here. I’ve got a few in my basket with Moshulu and going shopping today so going to go and try some others whilst I’m out and about. I want to get some purchased sooner rather than later.

Debenhams also sell Moshulu and have free delivery at the moment so you save a little bit of money.

I have a pair of their toe post sandals in tan and they're very comfy and go with anything. I wore them loads last summer and they're showing very little wear.

Twelvetimes · 13/04/2024 11:02

I find Birkenstocks really uncomfortable for the same reason as Lakie Lady. They just are not right for my feet.

I have several pairs of Tevas, they are the only sandals I find comfortable now. I have Universal midforms which are great, and some older styles which are no longer available, they are all equally comfortable.

I had some lovely Moshulu sandals 7 or 8 years ago and after they fell apart I tried a couple of other pairs but they weren't as good.

Isometimeswonder · 14/04/2024 07:25

@Popsicle30 are your feet wide or narrow?
I have very narrow feet so birkenstock type sandals don't work.
I have Rieker ones, they have a nice chunky sole so are comfy underfoot and aren't too wide (adjustable straps too).

Fleetheart · 14/04/2024 08:00

another vote for moshulu; love em and rarely buy shoes anywhere else now.

Vestito · 14/04/2024 08:53

Fantasy Sandals - suede footbed so no sliding around, flexible domes but also flat form and wedges. So soft. They are Greek and come in lovely styles and colours - I swopped between a style with a toe-post similar to Birkenstock Maharis (but so much softer) and a flatform pair walking around Venice last year. I just buy a new style every year now. Quite a collection and not outrageous prices.

sueelleker · 14/04/2024 09:48

I like Hotter sandals. Most of them come in 3 width fittings, and they're the only ones I can put on new and wear all day.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 14/04/2024 09:50

I got some black Hotter Tourist last year, after reading about them on here. I love them.

I find birkenstocks uncomfortable and always sought similar style sandals but have now found that slip on, flip flop styles really make my feet ache keeping them on. Its like I suddenly have to think about how to keep them on my feet after years of wearing that style every summer, infuriating because I love that style so much and have a lovely collection of them. So I set out to find the same sort of base but with straps that are fully adjustable for my wider foot. Bought these in pale blue two summers ago and they have been brilliant, about to invest in a second pair in another colour. First pair are still going strong but it will be nice to have a choice of colour. https://josefseibel.co.uk/collections/holiday-sandals/products/josef-seibel-tonga-25?variant=42444084216051

I LOVE these. Thank you.

How worried are you about being stylish OP? And also how old are you?

Foofedifiknow · 14/04/2024 11:53

This is a perennial irritant for me- narrow flat inverted feet who enjoys walking - if I don’t have enough arch support it seems to cause pain in knees, hips, back & agony in feet. Last Spring I had a physio assess and she made me realise it happens every year with the switch to sandals. I blow a fortune on sandals! Ones that make it worse; Birkenstocks ( footbed too flat), any flat sandal and tevas ( initially seem comfy but then suspected I was getting arthritis until realising it was teva induced) . The whistles, hush, MV vionic ones etc with the leather footbed and raised arch are a game changer as I love slides. The FitFlop’s are comfy too but they don’t age well - the sole has lifted off a pair I bought 2 weeks ago . I’m hoping retailers will cotton on that we want more fashionable & comfy shoe ranges!

MurielThrockmorton · 12/04/2024 07:32

Birkenstocks are really uncomfortable on me, the moulding is in the wrong place in the middle of the sole and it gives me blisters. I wear FitFlop sandals, most comfortable I have ever found.

Agree. I cannot wear Birkenstock they’re excruciatingly uncomfortable. Like having my feet grated

That website is so awful I'm not sure I can face buying from them! If you don't know what you want it seems impossible to see everything.

Popsicle30 · 14/04/2024 16:39

Thanks all for continuing to make suggestions.

In terms of the width of my feet I’m probably in the middle. Not overly narrow or wide.

Age wise I’m early forties. I want something comfortable that looks nice to wear during the day with shorts/skirts/dresses/jeans/linen trousers.

im waiting for the Moshulu ones to arrive and see what I think and then I’m hitting the shops. It didn’t happen in the end yesterday.

Sorry to hi-jack the thread but are there any sandals that tick all my boxes?

I suffered with plantar fasciitis so normally wear Fitflop sandals but as pp says they can make my feet smell by the end of the day. So guess I need leather lining? I also want them to be easy to clean and don’t rot after the first rain shower. Preferably black and not too ugly.

Any suggestions please?

Try Ecco, I’ve machine washed mine in the past. Almost indestructible. The fit tends to be good for flatter narrow heeled feet as they tend to be more snug over the instep and heel.

NannaKaren · 17/04/2024 21:30

Look at Fitflop! ❤️

Yuito · 18/04/2024 07:42

I find Birkenstocks hurt my feet! I’ve had a similar pair to these Clarks ones for a few years and they are the most comfortable sandals I’ve ever had -https://www.clarks.com/en-gb/elizabelle-sky/26177124-p. The padded sole makes all the difference for me ( they have the same sole in a few styles). Plus ankle strap so they don’t slip off and proper grip underneath.

I haven't bought anything from them yet as only recently found them, but I am eyeing up several pairs of Moshulu sandals. If they're as comfy and well made as they look, I'll be happy!

I've had boots from there and they are lush and appear well made. My slippers were comfy but developed a hole quite quickly with limited use. Probably should have sent them back really.

vanillafudgecake · 18/04/2024 10:32

I love my saltwater sandals and live in them all summer, they are super versatile.

I find them great for walking in, perfect for holidays from city breaks to beach days paddling in the sea in them.

Super comfy and stylish, they go with anything.

I have the originals in tan www.salt-watersandals.co.uk/collections/womens-brown-sandals/products/original-tan-womens-sandals

They also do a bigger sole in the swimmer style, as the originals are quite flat but they suit my feet perfectly and don't rub at all

I'm going to invest in another pair this year when I can decide on which other colour to have!

ElsaMars · 18/04/2024 11:08

I recently bought some cheap sandals on the Everything £5 website fearing the worst as I have wide feet and I hate walking in completely flat sandals, they looked sort of comfy so I thought, nothing to lose. They are so, so comfortable and not too bad looking either. If I find them, I will post a link.

WhoIsnt · 18/04/2024 12:07

I have some Birkenstocks but they hurt my knees if I wear them (as they put all the weight through the heel of your foot rather than the ball) -

Anyone else find this - and if so what sandals do you prefer?
