If I hate wearing a bra, what do you recommend?

I absolutely loathe the feeling of wearing a bra but can't do without one; I don't think my colleagues would appreciate my saggy boobs and nipples showing though my tops.

I can't cope with anything wired. The best bras I've found are those T-shirt seamless ones which stop the nipples showing but without layers of padding, but I still find them uncomfortable. I've tried crop tops and vest tops too but not yet found anything that works sufficiently well as a bra.

Please don't suggest getting properly fitted- been there, done that so it's not a question of sizing, I know the correct size for me (38D)

I just want to be able to put on a bra which feels the least like wearing a bra possible, but which does the job!

Boody! I've tried uniqlo and M&S crop top type bras and they're not supportive enough. The boody full bust crop top type ones are great.

I live in these now. So comfy.

Another vote for sloggi zero feel without the insert pads. I find they do start getting a bit soft and unsupportive after about 6 months.

Snag bras. A game changer. I'm a 48 J.. hate bras but these are the best ever.. tells you how to measure. I just got a natural and a black and that's all l need.

I have one of these in the F-H range in a 34G this is so comfortable I have slept in it! I think there is more choice on M &S of nicer stuff non wired if you’re under a DD cup. I get it looks like a granny bra but I don’t care spent too long suffering with horrible uncomfortable bras !

I came to suggest this one! I bought this when I was pregnant as I needed the support and my breasts were so tender. This was honestly fab! I slept in it too.

Crazycatstory · 02/04/2024 13:01

I’ve got several of these and they are really comfortable. They are the only bras I wear now. I’m a 38 DD.

I hate wearing bras so got some sports type bras in Primark. They're not technically sports bras, more like a cami top that doesn't cover the belly if that makes any sense😂 so comfy and no padded inserts or anything

I would t buy from them. They use men to advertise their female underwear.

No, there is a particular range, clearly stating it's for anyone who would like to wear it, which they have men advertising but otherwise it's women.

I like their stuff, it's comfortable, but not really suitable for my day job, as it's a very physical mucky job

Princessfluffy · 02/04/2024 15:26

I find nothing unacceptable about being able to see the outline of a nipple through clothing. I'm surprised that people obsess about this.

GreenTuftyFlowers · 02/04/2024 15:35

M&S Flexifit crop tops are great - the most comfortable thing I've ever found. If you don't find the cups big enough in smaller sizes you could maybe size up, and fold over and sew the section that sits over your spine to firm it up? I do that when they get saggier with age!

@667TheNeighbourOfTheBeast they look great... but once again, nothing in a 32GG/H 😢 Why do designers assume that if you've got a small back you can't have big boobs?

I've looked and looked for a bralette in my size. Cannot find one anywhere 😢

Supply and demand I imagine.
A bralette offers minimal support.

Here's one from Bravissimo

I am 73 and overweight so in normal bra would be 44DD, also long drop (droop?) from shoulder to boob and slidey shoulders that straps glide easily off. I'm always trying out new bras for comfort and hoping they will also lift my boobs and give me a better shape. I have the Uniqlo ones which I can just about squeeze into, tried all the very soft bralettes, hate to have to put a bra on over my head/up over my bum so like a back fastening and adjustable wide straps. I am currently wearing some cotton bras I bought from Tu at Sainsburys and love the comfort, though not sure about the shape. They are very popular and often out of stock. I tried to buy online and they were out of stock but my local sainsburys had quite a few. Worth trying different sizes, In normal bras I would be a 44DD but in these I take a 40D or DD. Does this link work?

Hi yes the links work. I don’t want to go off on a bra fitting tangent here but if the straps slip off your shoulders that could mean the back size is too big for you. Is it lose ? Also if the back rides up and front is pulled down by weight of your boobs that is another indicator that band size is too big.

667TheNeighbourOfTheBeast · 03/04/2024 09:52

@onegreyhair oops sent that before I had finished! Meant to say it could just be shape of your shoulders but my bra straps used to slip when I was in a 36 band and it was too big, plus it maybe you just don’t have very big shoulders in relation to size of bust and ribcage. Sizes vary a lot between brands don’t they and even styles within the same brand

I hate bras too but my bust is really heavy 30GG, nothing short of steel girders will hold mine up. I have dents in my shoulders despite buying the best bras I can find. I dumped my bra during covid and it's been really hard having to put one on again for work.

Your bra straps shouldn't be taking any weight, they should be quite loose. The band should be doing most of the supporting, so you would probably benefit from a tighter band and bigger cup.

I agree with this when I was wearing a larger band size straps would dig into my shoulders. This was after fitting at M&S! I was fitted as 36F now wearing 34G

Just watch out at Bravissimo because their fitters take the "smaller back, bigger cup" mantra too far and you'll end up in pain and with the cups getting pulled flat and sideways from the back strap being too tight.

Hi thank you, I didn’t have a fitting at Bravissimo in person as I don’t have a store near me. I have had fitting years ago over video with them. I definitely don’t wear anything too tight I couldn’t stand it, I’m all about comfort! I also got a lot of info on mumsnet about bra fitting there was a huge thread about it around ten years ago. I’ve also found that sizing varies greatly between brands and even between styles so that at Bravissimo I was wearing one of their plunge style bras Satine 32G and at M &S 34g. M&S fitting I just gave up on as it’s hit and miss depends who you get. The little independent lingerie shops used be brilliant but dying out now.
