Good quality 'high street' earrings

Hi all

Looking for some help. I'd like to update my earring collection to add in some fashionable but timeless gold (looking) earrings. I'm looking for something that's decent quality without being overly expensive... like better quality than Accesorize but not like £75 a pair either.

Anyone any suggestions of shops that sell earrings that might fit the bill?!

TK Maxx have an excellent selection of gold plated sterling silver earrings, often Italian brands . I like to check the back to make sure they are solid and not trumpery and have been known to request a magnifying glass to check they have a silver mark Blush

A bit of a plug for handmade jewellery - I'm not a jeweller by the way.

We're about to hit the open craft / art studio season this month. Can I put in a plea for supporting local jewellers. The work will be of high quality (hallmarked) and not mass produced.

Check out your local area for open studio / art trail events and get some beautiful statement earrings and support a local jeweller. Ig you give me a clue I can point you in the right direction

How do you find these events? I would love to support local jewellers.
I did not know there was a season.

Honestly high street jewellers for unexciting gold jewellery.
Orelia for fashion stuff that doesn't last.
Vinader is expensive for what it is.

It's something of a tradition that craft fairs etc all start back up in April, after a fallow period after Christmas.
Around us there are arts trails in April and May and then another set in September.

Look up 'open studio' or 'art trail' with your area to see what's on. There's an organisation called 'craft & flea' - they are pretty much national now, in large towns and small cities. The bigger fair organisers like Craft in Focus, Handmade, Made in all have websites with details too. If you're in London, there's Crafty Fox, Canopy Market at King's Cross and Peninsula Market in Greenwich. Local galleries may also have some jewellery too, again handmade but not necessarily local.

You can also check on the Craft council directory for jewellers in your area.

I'm sure I've forgotten some, but these will get you started!

Sorry but you're just not going to get decent quality gold (looking) earrings for £75. Starting point is approx double that. I tend to stay away from gold plate, it's just not worth it. Depending on the thickness ultimately it wears off. Alex Munroe seemed to be the thing a few years ago, but now I more see people peeved that they haven't lasted. So much of it is plated and they charge 'solid gold prices' for gold plated. See this thread: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/style_and_beauty/4159589-Alex-Monroe-necklace-re-plating

Since finding out about them, Element Isle (https://www.elementisle.com) is my go to place for jewellery now. All of their gold is solid gold. You also know its made in the UK and not in China like lots of other places. Etsy is bad for far-east imports these days.

I've suddenly thought - there's a local craft shop that sells earrings by local jewellers, I can post the link if anyone's interested.

But the earrings I've bought there have definitely lasted and seem good quality. They're silver but you could get gold ones made. The ones I've got from the other gift shops in the area, they're very nice, but I can't honestly see them lasting to be fair. Even some nice gold plated earrings I got from another gift shop that were made locally, the backs didn't seem to fit as well as they should've or lasted that well which is a pity.

These were good for me from Amazon. The hoops were £10.29 and the hearts were £13.99. Both silver with gold plating.

TK Maxx

yes you do have to go regularly unless you shop online but I was pretty miffed that I was in store today and found the exact same earrings ( dupes ) that I bought on that big online shop, at the same price but waterproof!!!

Also look at your own local boutiques. I cant mind the name of the brand my local has just started to sell, but I have my birthday pressie list sorted

Ok, I get that different people have different budgets, etc, but brands like this are exactly what is wrong with the jewellery industry and fashion in general.

Where is this stuff made?

Who is it made by?
Who is this company?

None of this info is on the website. There is more information on that site about Klarna, than the company, or their ethics.

Maybe people just don't care, but to me it speaks volumes to me and a major red flag.

I highly recommend Oliver Bonas. It’s the only high street jewellery I’ve found that doesn’t tarnish / make your skin turn green / get that horrible metallic smell after a couple of months.

I have some silver OB earrings and they tarnish so quickly.

Etsy
Missions are a bit priced but they’ve got a 50% off sale at the moment

DuckieDodgyHedgyPiggy · 10/06/2025 13:38

I found some nice ones in Next and in Accessorize.

SpaceCalmPeace · 10/06/2025 13:39

I've got some lovely bits recently in M&S.

I like jewellerybox.co.uk.

Have a look at Cara Tonkin’s website as she’s currently having a sample/archive sale so there are some good deals to be had putting things within your budget @WatermelonKiwi

https://www.caratonkin.com/sample-sale

I met Cara quite a few years ago when she won a Young Jewellery Talent award and I attended the event (as it was held at a friend’s jewellery studio/shop in Hatton Garden). All her pieces are handmade and her gold pieces are gold plated over silver (rather than gold plated brass as some of the big brands use because it’s cheaper). I’ve owned pieces by Cara for over a decade and none of them have ever tarnished.

RubiesandRose · 10/06/2025 17:48

Also agree with the Etsy suggestion, I’ve had some lovely and reasonably priced earrings from there.

pooptastic · 10/06/2025 17:52

Wynter Studios on Not on the High Street is my current favourite.

SkyOfficer · 10/06/2025 22:08

Jewellery from oliver bonas is really bad quality.
