Ok, I’m taking the plunge. I’m going to invest in one.

I am sick of spiky razor regrowth.

Just had a look on the Boots Website, a couple have a good reduction on them at the moment.

Are they worth it?

How lo g roughly until you noticed results?

Is it worth paying the extra for cordless?

Will it work for me? I am brunette, fairly dark leg hair.

Thanks!

I have a corded one and it's no problem to use. I do have pale skin and dark hair and I'm so pleased with the results. I used to get shaving rash under my arms and now they are so smooth. Same for my legs, I get very little growth and can go weeks between a quick shave. I've been working on my bikini area and again what a difference. I've yet to try my lip and chin, but I think I will based on results so far. My only regret is not doing it sooner.

snazzychair · 27/03/2024 10:54

Which one do you all have?

OfDragonsDeep · 27/03/2024 10:55

Absolutely brilliant. Started in in September last year and have kept up with it since and have very little hair growth now. I have pale skin and standard brown hair.

It’s made such a difference for things like going to the gym and swimming as I don’t have to worry about shaving first. Looking forward to skirt and shorts weather now 🤞

I have the corded version, agree it’s not the sort of thing you’d be doing far away from a plug socket.

Wish I’d had this when I was younger too.

FrenchMustard · 27/03/2024 11:04

I have one and wish I’d bought it sooner as the results have been brilliant. I’ve previously had salon laser hair removal on my legs and while you need more sessions with the lumea, the end result has been just as good.
I have a corded one which has 4 attachments for different body areas (not sure on the model number). The attachments do help with getting the angle right I find so they have been worth the extra cost.

DarkDarkNight · 27/03/2024 11:48

I’m so tempted, I can never get good results shaving my underarms, I always end up with a stubborn hair and a rash and it never feels smooth. I have a holiday coming up and the idea of not having to worry so much about hair removal is so freeing.

There are Philips models and Braun models on offer at the minute, does anyone rate the Braun? I guess they all do the same thing I’m just wondering if the slightly smaller unit is easier to handle.

I have the Philips lumea

ObsidianTree · 27/03/2024 15:23

I have one. It works well when I can be bothered to use it. Need to start it up again for summer.

Even tho I can use for bikini area and under arms... I don't, as it's too painful! Just stick to legs and face.

Have noticed with legs the hair hasn't come back fully. Some areas hairless even tho I haven't lasered for a few months

Starlight19 · 28/03/2024 23:29

Thank you all for your advice! I took the plunge and got the Lumea IPL 7000 Advanced. It has a body, face & bikini attachments.

I got it on Boots online for £278, reduced by £111 from £389. Seemed to be a good deal, plus with personalised offers I got more off it as well as collecting a healthy amount of Advantage points 😊

This is all very helpful! I have embarrassing upper lip hair and shave every 3 days. Does it leave redness/soreness? Will I still be able to shave regularly before I hopefully don't need to?

Shuttheblinds · 29/03/2024 00:12

I had high hopes for mine. I bought the touch and slide model that can be used plugged in as this was meant to be better than the cordless one. It sadly hasn’t worked for me, I think I am just a bit too fair, so if anyone is considering buying one and wants to buy it cheaper message me. It’s almost brand new and in excellent condition hardly used.

Startoftheyear2024 · 29/03/2024 01:00

Loved mine but take care, you need to use it every couple of months or else it stops working. That info is buried in the small print in the instructions.

No redness or soreness.
I think they advise you shave first rather than pluck or wax as the hair needs to still partly be there to absorb the light.

So, have just did my patch test all levels seemed ok. Any benefit to go with 5 over 4?

Can I ask about moles and thread veins? Do they burn?
Also using on face and chin? I have a nice perimenopausal goatee developing.

theusualwednesday · 06/04/2024 23:38

Can someone tell me their exact routine as I have had my corded one sitting in a box for 3 years but maybe this is the year!

I have the Braun and I so wish these were around when I was a teen.

I got the braun, the one with just the two heads, last year when it was less then half price in Argos and I dont regret it at all

I no longer had a tashe or chin hair, well I do, but just the white ones ( Im near 60 ) which I just epilate now and then when I feel them

Underarms dis take me a while but then at my age, I dont wear sleeveless so no one sees there and Im lazy, but going by my legs Id say using it weekly for 6 weeks you will be amazed

MyWyndolynne · 06/04/2024 23:52

I got a cheap one from amazon.

I had really really thick bushy hair.

This is my hair now after 3 months. Hidden under sensitivity

It's crazy. I paid £29!

It's so minimal I get no regrowth itching at all.

I bought mine for the face and whilst it wont kill the white hairs, the black spikey ones are a thing of the past

You will get a sharp ting on darker skin, like an elastic band pinging you on darker skin areas, its not "sore" just makes you jump a bit

suki1964 · 06/04/2024 23:57

Kelvinator1 · 27/03/2024 09:57

Is it painful? I had in-salon laser years ago (10+ years) on my bikini line and it did hurt, wondering if that aspect of it has improved at all.....

I dont know what your experience of pain was, but as a female who has used epilators most of her life for hair removal, even in the most intimate of places, this is pain free. You will feel a tiny sting like a flick of an elastic band where your skin is darker ( inner bikini line for example ) but nope its pain free unless you really do have a low pain threshold. Waxing is much much much worse

Boxerdor · 07/04/2024 00:03

Interested in this as I have one too but don’t use it regularly enough because I find it takes ages to do my legs. How often do you all use it and does it matter which level it’s on?

Mrbumpssmile · 07/04/2024 00:03

How frequently do you need to use it for results?
Will it work on very tough, black hair (white skin)?
Seriously not as painful as an epilator? I have no pain threshold at all, so am very nervous about trying it, but I use an epilator twice a week on my face and am used to that, so could cope if the lumea isn't as bad.

TitusMoan · 07/04/2024 00:09

I’ve had great results too, except on my lower legs which keep breaking out in itchy red spots a day or so after I’ve used the Lumea. If anyone has any tips on how to avoid this then please do share!

I get it done at a salon and she puts white pencil on all my moles/freckles on my legs before she does them. The veins are fine (I have thread and varicose veins) but you can’t go over a vein that’s bulging out your leg basically, anything else is okay

Darla9 · 07/04/2024 00:26

I had the home laser that was out about 10 years ago, I think it was boots that made it. The lumea (or very similar) was just coming out but was way more expensive and my wage from my job at uni couldn’t stretch to it! I had fairly good results at the time with that one, in that I had less hair (mainly bikini area as that was the area I struggled with shaving so much -razor burn, redness etc). It did say you couldn’t go over areas more than one but I think I must have had the occasional overlap because for years after it I had these little white scars dotted about my bikini area. I think they’re gone now though.

The results from that one weren’t permanent although I do think I have less hair than I would have had. I’m now in the middle of getting it all done (full body package) at a salon. I’ve had two sessions and there’s very obvious bald patches already. On the very intimate areas it does hurt a bit but is like an elastic band ping. The girl counts me down to it but a few of the very inner 😳 areas made me literally jump. It’s a very short term discomfort though compared with getting waxed before every holiday etc. The lumea sounds like it’s came a long way in the last 10 years! Also good to be able to do the top ups at home without the salon cost, as I think I still need to go there once per year which will be maybe £100-150

GachaBread · 07/04/2024 00:27

Ooh I love raving about this when the subject comes up. I used to have expensive salon treatment but I've swapped for the lumea. Got mine on the Phillips try and test programme so I had the option to send back without committing to full payment. Now I kick myself that I never tried sooner because I would have saved so much money. I use every two weeks and have fantastic results.
