Over 60s make up

I am now 62 and always wear foundation. What make up do mature women here use? I'm a bit stuck now., I don't know whether to use a light foundation, more coverage. I have tried tinted moisturier but it doesn't cover enough when I want to go anywhere dressed up.

I like Estee Lauder foundation. It's dewy, not Matt, and you can use a little for good natural coverage.

Lizzbear · 24/03/2024 21:49

Estee Lauder double wear

DelphiniumBlue · 24/03/2024 21:52

Trinny London BFF does a great job on me!

WhatWillIWear · 24/03/2024 22:06

Similar age; I don't wear foundation - but actually I never have. I tend to concentrate on (minimal but effective) skincare and don't feel a need for any 'covering'.

During lockdown I started using Charlotte Tilbury Wonderglow (a 'foundation base') for Zoom calls. Only because I received a free sample from Cult Beauty and was impressed. Worked brilliantly on screen - I'm on my second tube, but makes my skin look a bit dry and ashen in real life. I've gone back to just my bare, (moisturised with facial oil) face for in person interaction - and I don't think I look bad.

(Obviously in a red carpet situation I'd encourage the MUA to put everything on my face!)

OutingPosts · 24/03/2024 22:11

Kiko BB cream, it just makes my skin look good rather than covered. Same age as you.

RampantIvy · 24/03/2024 22:15

Less is more IMO. I'm 65 and no longer wear foundation.

I found my holy grail recently when I bought a Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser. It matches my skin exactly and makes it look smooth and natural, but better than my skin.

It has SPF30 as well.

SuperstarDeejay · 24/03/2024 22:22

Try making your own tinted moisturiser simply by blending a blob of your favourite moisturiser and foundation in your palm. That way you have the perfect shade to start with, and you can tweak the ratios to get the coverage you need on the day.

I'm early 50s and had to stop wearing foundation years ago, it just didn't look right anymore.

chuggachug · 24/03/2024 22:34

Just nothing matte and full coverage like Estée Lauder double wear.

It has its place and is good for long lasting but there are better now that last 16,18,24 hours but that aren't matte and dry looking.

The number of people who say it looks great on them. Then post their picture and it doesn't look great at all.

There was a post on here with pictures of a magazine editor who was promoting it and she thought she looked great. She looked about 15 years older with it on

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 25/03/2024 01:15

Estée Lauder futurist hydra rescue or recently discover Max Factor Miracle Pure.

Darklane · 25/03/2024 08:37

I like to use a stick make up like Boots No7, Tarte or Mac with a light dusting of Laura Geller B&B, or translucent powder, over the top. That way can just get the coverage either light or medium that looks best. A light pink blusher makes a world of difference though to me looking brighter & less corpse like.

lindyloo57 · 25/03/2024 12:30

I used to wear double wear when I worked, but now I just wear eborian cc cream, if i want a more coverage I use laura geller balance and brighten over the top.

HullaBallu · 25/03/2024 12:39

slightly younger, but I like Hourglass Vanish stick foundation; you can sheer it out or build it up where you need it. I'm currently using RMS Beauty Un-Cover Foundation from the SpaceNK sale: it's a thick cream, more like concealer, but you only need a tiny amount, and again, it's buildable and natural looking.

Am interested to see what the real life reviews are like for the new Lisa Eldridge skin tint when the initial blast of influencer hysteria dies down.

Deathraystare · 25/03/2024 14:41

I rarely wear foundation now. My skin seems ok (hooray!). I used to have to cover it up as I have high blood pressure and was ruddy but on medation now and my skin looks much better!

If I was going out for the evening I would probably put some foundation on. I am pleased with Laura Geller's baked powder foundation but also have a liquid Boots one.

Most of the time I use a tinted moisturiser or bb or cc. I like a slightly glowey skin (not glassy! Ew!) but would powder my nose and forehead. However, at 64, my emphasis is more on my eyes than on my face.

Gatekeeper · 25/03/2024 14:49

Ive given up wearing foundation completely aged 60. I use a rosy tinted moisturiser, a bit of Jones Road balm in Dusty Pink on my cheeks and finish with Hourglass ambient lighting powder

ColBoulter · 25/03/2024 14:51

Absolutely NOT Estee Lauder Double wear
So ageing

There are so many products which are make up and skincare combined which give a much nicer finish.
Erborian BB is my go to , gives a bit more coverage plus serum
Lovely velvety finish
Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue -I find the stick version gives better coverage
If you have problem areas, then conceal or use a tinted concealer to reduce ( age spots, veins, redness etc)
Don't plaster on a thick foundation
Also primer and/ or a setting spray

ColBoulter · 25/03/2024 14:53

Forgot Jones Road
WTF foundation is lovely, not that heavy coverage but nice in the summer or round and about to stop the tired look

YouSayChorizoIsayChorizo · 25/03/2024 15:40

I'm the age of a famous Beatles song (!) and a recent convert to Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser. Specifically, Oil-Free Natural Skin Perfector, SPF 20, UVA UVB.

I used to wear Estee Lauder Doublewear but don't any more, it feels dry and heavy and makes me look more wrinkly than I am! I've tried mixing it with a bit of moisturiser, but then it's too shiny.

I've toyed with Laura Mercier for years as it gets such rave reviews, but it's never done much for me. Well, now it does. Maybe it's a new formulation or my skin has changed. Whatever, it hits that sweet spot of making me look like a slightly more 'done' version of my natural self. Very happy I can forget about foundation now. I just slap it on, 5 minutes on brows, eyes, cheek and lips, and done!

learieonthewildmoor · 25/03/2024 17:13

Is your foundation still working for you? I switched to tinted moisturiser because foundation looked too heavy. It takes getting used to.
This summer here I wore Clinique light reflecting primer, concealer, Laura Mercier Tinted bronzer, blush and Hourglass Radiant powder and it was very, very light: but I had colour and looked redd up, as Charlotte Bronte said.
I’m back to tinted moisturiser again and it looks a bit heavy to me! Been using Clinique but might give Laura Mercier a burl.
If your skin can tolerate oil and you want something lighter, a tinted serum might be good to try.

pussinboots61 · 25/03/2024 22:45

Thank you for your replies. I do have a foundation, Clinique Even Better Glow. I think I will try and mix it with moisturiser for the day time and see if that works and I can use it on its own when needed.

I am wondering that if I do buy just a tinted moisturiser next time, is it still better to use premium ones or are High Street ones just as good?

Those of you who wear tinted moisturiser only, do you still wear it when you go out dressed up or do you use a foundation then?

RampantIvy · 25/03/2024 23:18

Just tinted moisturiser. I'm 65 and foundation is too ageing on me.

OooScotland · 25/03/2024 23:26

Similar age. Foundation started looking too much so I just wear a really good full coverage concealer on marks and shadows and have upped my skincare game (double cleansing, VitC, sunscreen and tret) for everyday. Blusher is my secret weapon these days!

If I wear foundation now its the tiniest drop of something by Chanel rubbed well in with a brush (I use teint sublimage or No 1) as their formulas are beautiful. Spendy though.

I can’t get on with tinted moisturiser, I’ve never found one that didn’t seem heavier than foundation and they’re all too dark for me.

MissingMoominMamma · 25/03/2024 23:35

I’m 58 and started using Ultra Violette last year. It’s a lighter formulation that the Clarins I used to use, so I don’t feel as made up, but there’s still a dewy coverage. It’s also spf 50.

Im using a cream blush now too, which seems to suit my skin more than powder. It’s Rose Inc in daylily- I also use it on my lips, with a lip balm over it.

I’m thinking of changing my mascara to a dark brown, as black is now looking too harsh.

Fuschia01 · 25/03/2024 23:44

Try the new Lisa Eldridge skin tint.

OooScotland · 25/03/2024 23:50

Am interested to see what the real life reviews are like for the new Lisa Eldridge skin tint when the initial blast of influencer hysteria dies down.

I’ve seen a few unsponsored video reviews and they all said they wanted to love it but its very greasy and it oxidises a lot. Which saved me some money as I love her lipsticks so I was going to try it.

RampantIvy · 26/03/2024 07:13

@OooScotland I struggled for ages to find a light tinted moisturiser until I went into a department store with high end make up counters and asked to sample some.

I found my holy grail with Laura Mercier in 1CO Cameo, which matched my skin colour exactly. It isn't obvious I am wearing make up when I use it, but I just look like a better version of me when I do.
