Blazer indecision

Help please. I know I'm being daft but any thoughts on which of these might be better for spring? Would it be worth paying the extra for the wool one? I'm strawberry blonde and the colour is a bit of a departure for me. Any thoughts welcome

I prefer the camel colour but it depends if it washes you out or not.

Will wool be warm for spring? I find polyester very sweaty but it works well for blazers as they are so structured.

onlyconnect · 23/03/2024 14:26

Thank you ZenNudist

Could I wear the camel/ butterscotch with this?

I dislike brown and grey together but think I might be straying into that territory with these two

I wouldn't buy a blazer that's almost all polyester again. I bought a black one for a funeral once.

Are the pockets on the beige one real? They look a bit like they might be fake flaps and the description doesn't say. I wouldn't buy a blazer with no pockets at all.

onlyconnect · 23/03/2024 14:37

Good point Precipice. I have contacted them to ask about the picked because I definitely need pockets

I like the beige ! I have beige one from river island I buy them a few sizes to big and it goes with everything I also have a brown one ! Black is a bit limited to what it will go with and a bit dark for spring x

Londontown12 · 23/03/2024 16:26

Oh and all my pockets usually stitched but u unstitch them !

onlyconnect · 23/03/2024 16:53

Londontown12 by beige, do you mean the polyester butterscotch one?
Yes, pockets are usually stitched but these look so flat I wonder if there's a pocket there at all

Yep sorry the butterscotch!!! For the price I bet it has pockets for sure x

If you can afford the wool one it will hang and last better, though it is not very blazer-like.

The shoulders on the blue one do not look right.

Bromeliads · 23/03/2024 22:03

They both look more suit jacket than blazer to me. I don’t know if I am just being swayed by the styling with matching bottoms!

Could you tell me what's the difference? I always thought a blazer WAS a suit jacket?

Nope.

A blazer is an "odd" jacket, i.e. not part of a suit, but it is (should be) styled differently from a sports or casual jacket. Though modern usage blurs the distinction.

Properly has patch pockets without flaps, and has a history evolving from naval to yachting to boating to smart sports.

Due to its history it is often navy blue and may have brass buttons. May have a regimental or club badge on the breast pocket

Club blazers may be in garish colours or patterns

For men, is considered one step down in formality from a lounge suit, but can be rendered more casual by choice of trousers and shirt.

zaxxon · 23/03/2024 22:30

Thanks!

Don't think I've seen someone in one of those brass-button jackets since the mid-80s .. but maybe I'm hanging out in the wrong places ...

Bromeliads · 23/03/2024 22:40

Thank you @PigletJohn for answering that question so well 😁

RogueFemale · 23/03/2024 23:18

Can't imagine ever wanting a 'blazer like this, they look ill-fitting even on the models. What do you want one for?

Osakagirl · 24/03/2024 07:40

Blazers are classic pieces that you will probably wear and wear for years, particularly in a shade like this, so I’d be tempted to invest. My rule of thumb is to buy more expensive clothes which I will wear and wear, but if it’s a trend item I buy it from cheaper shops, as it probably won’t be something I’ll wear for too long. Alternatively, you could also look for a similar item on eBay. I did this when I wanted a leather jacket - I’d been looking at all saints, but found an unworn Isabel Marat leather jacket reduced from £1800 to £180, so still cheaper than the all saints jacket but far better quality and cut.

Cuppachuchu · 24/03/2024 09:13

I'd say don't buy any of them without trying them on. I have shopped for a jacket recently and these relaxed styles don't suit everyone. I found they made something that I wanted to look smart look sloppy and badly fitting.

Cuppachuchu · 24/03/2024 09:18

Forgot to say, Mango has a nice beige/caramel coloured one for £50 and the cut is better and more flattering than either of those M&S ones. has pretend pockets though.

Agree!

I have a large bust and some blazers I’ve tried on make me look like Miss Trunchbull. Others just look dreadful!

GemmaC50 · 24/03/2024 15:55

I prefer the darker colour, the design is more striking in my view. And it's versatile..Would look great with the right shirt as opposed to the rather poor and outdated looking one the model wears.. A more modern big collared white or light coloured shirt would look great with this blazer.@onlyconnect

I agree that you really need to try blazers on, even the loose fitting ones. They seem like they would be easy to buy online, but they're not.

Is the polyester one washable? Dry clean only on a beige colour jacket could get expensive.

CALLI0PE · 25/03/2024 09:26

@onlyconnect have you read the reviews for the M&S blazers? They are both very oversized on the shoulders so they won’t work for every build.

Precipice · 25/03/2024 17:07

Dry clean only on a beige colour jacket could get expensive.

How often would you be expecting to wash them? I wear blazers as jackets: too warm to sit around in one indoors, plus I wear them over another long-sleeve layer, so they're not touching much skin. I don't have any beige ones, as beige washes me out and I prefer brighter colours, but I don't tend to stain them and they get dry cleaned... extremely rarely.
