is there such a thing as a lovely fabric flower do you think?

or are they inherently naff?

i have some long stemmed lilies atm and it would be great if i could freeze-frame them at this very moment, in bloom, before the leaves start falling and the pollen gets everywhere...

Try bloom.uk.com - for some reason my link didn't work, but they seem to be the best around.

Cappuccino · 27/03/2008 19:15

hmm

I think they have to be Impossible Arty not to look like you have bought them at Wilkos

JackieNo · 27/03/2008 19:16

Yes the bloom catalogue looks great - haven't seen them in rl though. I've been tempted, I have to say.

moondog · 27/03/2008 19:16

Fabric ok.
Polyester (or 'faux silk' as they would have it) is certainly not.

JackieNo · 27/03/2008 19:17

(oh, and the Bloom ones are very expensive, too, unless you just buy the tiny ones)

moondog · 27/03/2008 19:18

£132 for some nylon tulips???? You have all gorn quite quite mad

Cappuccino · 27/03/2008 19:19

yes but the thing about flowers is the changeability

their fragility is part of the charm

you want them to last but you know that they won't

I think you would stop looking at an everlasting flower in the same way that you stop looking at any everyday object

warthog · 27/03/2008 19:19

initial reaction was NO, but looking at that website they look fantastic!

moondog · 27/03/2008 19:20

Quite Capp.
Perfectly put.
My neighbour has a hideous lilly arrangement that has been in her front window for nearly four years.

Tutter · 27/03/2008 19:23

i think you're right capp

but it's such a faff isn't it

and so expensive

i like to always have flowers in the kitchen (small vase of something cheapish - currently daffs and tulips), a huge vase in the sitting room (often lilies because they fill the space nicely) plus something else fairly huge in the hallway. the latter currently features a big pot with 5 or 6 of those philother orchids

nice to have fresh flowers in rooms that are used all the time, but would be useful to have fabric ones in other rooms

bloom looks tempting, but they mostly have titchy little flowers/arrangements, plus £££££jeepers

Hilariously, the bloom catalogue goes on about having a 'wardrobe' (I don't think it uses that word, but ykwim) of flowers, so when a certain flower comes into season, you go to your fake flower cupboard (yeah, right) and get out the appropriate ones.

Cappuccino · 27/03/2008 19:25

if I was spending that much I would want to buy art tbh

nice art from lovely local gallery - a really gorgeous vase from a fab ceramicist wouldn't need flowers

Tutter · 27/03/2008 19:26

you see i have good art and good vases

but i need (arf) flowers

Quite.
I have just had an armchair recovered in sumtuous violet velvet for £190!

It is so beautiful that I have stared at it all afternoon.

Cappuccino · 27/03/2008 19:31

or flowers that were fake but weren't trying to look real

bit homespun but you get the idea

moondog · 27/03/2008 19:32

Yes Capp, I'd find those acceptable too
(God i am yer lapdog tonight)

Tutter · 27/03/2008 19:33
