Gala event, can't wear shoes because of my back

I have a big gala event to attend on Saturday, it's very dressy uppy and I'm racking my brains to find anything to wear. I had back surgery and it left me with a numb foot because my sciatic nerve was so compressed, it means I can't wear shoes. I wear trainers.
It's long dress evening wear, what do I put on my feet if I can't wear dainty shoes?
I had planned on wearing a long silky black bias cut dress. But I do not know what to wear on my feet. Any suggestions? It's on Saturday so I don't have much time for shopping.
I have loads of trainers, in different colours and some chunky boots which I can just about manage in but the boots would look like I was wearing wellies.

Rant away it's horrid.

But please do t feel like you need to miss an event because of your body. You have every right to attend like everyone else and your clothes should not be the deciding factor nor should you be judged Flowers

Rant away OP, you are not alone!

I hope you feel better soon and that you do go and have a very nice time.

Friend had same issue and wore trainers smothered in stick on bling, and wore a co-ordinating necklace, earrings and so-on in same colour as stick on bling.

V sorry about your pain.

Would only go to the gala if you actually really want to.

and wear the trainers you find best for your pain.

trainers with gown worn v well by the mighty Serena Williams!

@Mxflamingnoravera sorry to hear you're struggling. For me, the nerves continued to improve for 2 years after back surgery. So keep your chin up.

There are pain management specialists that you can see too though I am sure you've probably investigated that already. If not I recommend you do. You might end up with intestinal issues if you are taking heavy-duty pain killers for ages.

Walking in the pool is very good for you or even just floating in the pool is great too, you don't have to "swim". Maybe you can alternate things once your arm inflammation goes does.

@SoTiredNeedHoliday thank you for the reassurance that nerves can improve. I'm seeing my back surgeon tomorrow. I need a plan that does not just involve painkillers.

Btw the gala night was superb. There were lots of people in trainers. I managed to bump into some v cool famous folk wearing them too.

I wore the silver trainers with the slinky dress. I got lots of compliments.

Yesterday was a bit of a blur though!
