Chapped lips help

Is there anything that really works for chapped lips? Mine have always been really dry, and they look awful unless I've literally just put something on them. The usual chapsticks and things don't seem to have more than a very temporary effect.

Nuxe rêve de miel balm (pot not stick) is amazing for dry lips.

writingfever · 20/03/2024 18:19

Thanks OP I have the same problem and am always on the lookout for a good lip balm. I've just started using the mac lipglass - it's very sticky and shiny, but lasts a bit longer than other stuff I've tried! Maybelline used to do a balm called babylips which was just perfect - but now they only do a sparkly coloured version.

Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream. Just the original, not the one specifically for lips. I use this if I’m ill because my lips get really chapped and it works wonders!

BeretRaspberry · 20/03/2024 18:31

I’ve been asking this question for years. I usually have craters in my lips from cracks and soreness. I’ve also tried so many things, including cheap and expensive stuff. Then I borrowed this off my daughter and practically overnight they were back to being soft and smooth.

Blistex intensive moisturiser. So good. I have one in every one of my bags and coat pockets.

It’s a completely different texture to any other lip balms I’ve tried. It’s actually like a moisturiser rather than just grease that sits on top and doesn’t sink it.

MrsWidgerysLodger · 20/03/2024 18:36

I found a combination that worked for me was lip oil followed straight away by vaseline (or a similar occlusive style lip balm) done overnight for about a week. I went from dry, cracked, bleeding and embarrassing to lovely and soft within about a week.

8 hour cream as above or the OKeefes overnight lip repair! In an orange tub, I've seen it in boots!

mdinbc · 20/03/2024 18:41

La Roche Posay Cicaplast baume. My poor DH had lips that were sore and cracking; a pharmacist recommended this one and it did the trick. It's in a squeeze out tube.

Second this
or lanisoh nipple cream!

DuploTrain · 20/03/2024 18:45

Yes Lansinoh nipple cream is very good… they do small lip balm sized tubes now too

AppropriateAdult · 20/03/2024 18:50

Thanks so much, I'll be trying all of these! Should have said I've tried both Elizabeth Arden and lanolin nipple cream in the past, but I never found they made a lasting difference...

Nuxe lip balm, like pp the one in the pot, worth every penny.

This - the one in the metal tube, not the white tube. Medicinal but effective

More votes for Nuxe (pot) during day and o Keefs (orange pot) overnight (I still feel it on my lips when I wake).

Jeannie88 · 20/03/2024 19:23

Honestly, good old fashioned method...dry skin cream then VASELINE! Seals in the hydration, keep rubbing it in as often as you can. Xx

Fridayfederica · 20/03/2024 22:18

Boots No 7 Protect and Perfect Lip Care works for me every time. Also fabulous on dry or sunburnt noses.

SleeplessInFife · 20/03/2024 22:39

For me the cause of my constant chapped lips was my toothpaste. I started to brush my teeth before washing my face and that solved it. I think the toothpaste residue stays on the lips unless thoroughly washed off. If that doesn’t work it’s worth switching your toothpaste for a different one, I find some more drying than others.

Neutrogena Norwegian Formula lip balm has been the only thing to finally cure DD’s dry and cracked lips after the viral La Neige lip mask completely ruined them. Trust me - we’d tried everything else and all any other products did was continue the vicious cycle of constantly needing to reapply

Mmhmmn · 20/03/2024 22:47

Staying hydrated, so drink more water. Not having extremes of being in hot central heating and cold weather outside. Nivea do a good lip balm stick which is an exfoliating one so it scrubs your lips a bit when you apply it. It’s got a light turquoise lid.

YellowHatt · 20/03/2024 22:53

Struggling with this myself at the moment. I asked the GP while I was there for something else and they said Aquaphor.

I’m trying better vitamins and an antihistamine too. Desperately trying to find anything that actually works!

JaneIves · 20/03/2024 22:57

Another vote for Nuxe!
I'm a chronic lip licker, plus have multiple allergies, always suffered with very dry, sore lips. Saw Nuxe recommended on here about 3 or 4 years ago - can honestly say it's literally been life changing for me.

SeaToSki · 20/03/2024 23:01

Take a broad spectrum vitamin b supplement. Add vitamin d at 2000 iui in winter and 1000 in summer, then vits c and k and eat loads of veg and whole grains and avoid any artificial sweeteners

if your lips are really bad, its likely a vitamin deficiency

readingmytealeaves · 21/03/2024 02:04

Agree regarding La Roche Posay Cicaplast levres in the squeezy tube. I also have the stick version in my handbag but it's not as good. I also use the Nivea Hydrocare stick - pale blue tube. These are the only products I seem to be able to tolerate now apart from Vaseline.
I had terrible chapped lips, probably a reaction to a freebie lip balm from a gift bag, and they took ages to clear. For a long time plain Vaseline from a tub was all I could tolerate. Then I spent a fortune on Aquaphor, O'Keefe's and various Blistex products after looking at recommendations on here - reacted to all of them and couldn't use them. Not tried Nuxe.

daisychain01 · 21/03/2024 02:12

Palmers / O'Keiffe are good

also Nivea does a range of different lip balms, the latest one has hyaluronic acid which is an intense moisturiser that's naturally occurring in the skin. I've noticed it's in quite a few moisturisers nowadays. The tube is silvery grey and it's very pleasant on the lips.

I put Blistex cold sore ointment on first, let that soak in then the Nivea as a barrier, works a treat 👍

LaWench · 21/03/2024 02:24

Drink lots of water. I have lots of lip balms, I like the Nivea silver one best. The trick is to keep reapplying every few hours.
