Chapped lips help

Is there anything that really works for chapped lips? Mine have always been really dry, and they look awful unless I've literally just put something on them. The usual chapsticks and things don't seem to have more than a very temporary effect.

Drink lots of water. I have lots of lip balms, I like the Nivea silver one best. The trick is to keep reapplying every few hours.

The trick is to wean off of applying every few hours. Constant reapplication dries the lips out more in the long run as they become dependent on it

The dark blue Nivea lip balm is my go to, although I'm currently using Laneige lip sleeping mask and it's got a slightly different, more oily texture which I'm enjoying. It seems to stick to my lips for much longer too.

Agree that toothpaste might be an issue, also general hydration levels.

The Blistex relief cream is pretty good as well if you've got active splits in your lips as opposed to just dry skin.

This is what I thought.

I remember as a child having awfully dry lips and reapplying calmex on them constantly until a friend’s mum told me that it was making it worse and that if I left them alone completely they’d be normal again.

It took a week or so (hazy memory, maybe a couple of weeks) but I did it and my lips did go back to normal again!

The thought of doing it now as an adult when I have to socialise and be presentable at work is really putting me off trying it. (And just the thought of having painful, uncomfortable lips for weeks 😫.)

Lanolin always. Lansinoh, Lanolips or Dr. Lipp are the brands.
Petrochemicals like vaseline and silicones and paraffin don't help in the long term.

I use Rawleighs medicated ointment for literally everything including my lips.

Also use pure lanolin sometimes which is excellent too.

Blistex intensive moisturiser, actually moisturises rather than just sit on your lips. Stuff like Vaseline just makes you need it more and more imo.

Might be worth using a lip balm with spf during the day. I'm currently using this one:

It does have a very slight cast, but I'd happily trade this over chapped lips.

I apply this lip balm at night:

Burts bees unscented lip balm
