Clothes from Amazon

My Instagram feed is increasingly filled with suggestions for try ons of clothes from Amazon. Some stuff looks nice but more often than not US influencers.

Any big hits to share from UK Amazon - basics, dupes, just things you wouldn't think to buy but which have been really good?

I've had some good leggings before - better quality than high street.

I've had a few things from amazon clothing wise but they tend to be few and far between; stuff that I've found accidentally. Generally speaking their stuff is not good.

On the other, I did find some ok cotton long nightdresses. But if you search, say cotton nightdresses, often not cotton comes up.

I find it interesting that Amazon don't seem to have really got their act together with clothes. Presumably it's not worth their while for some reason.

Having said that I've just remembered Amazon was good for a zip up dressing gown that I wanted for when I was dying my hair at home in lockdown and couldn't find anywhere else!

I’ve had some really decent quality cotton flannel pyjamas from Amazon and all my jodhpurs (I work on a farm). All under £20, with thick fabric and good stitching they wash well last a good long time. I wouldn’t even look to buy ‘nice’ clothes from there though.

LookAwayLindy · 18/03/2024 04:57

I’ve occasionally bought some item of clothing from Amazon eg a house kaftan or some such . Always been poor quality and always sent back 🤷‍♀️

I actually liked these when I had my baby last year. Covered my post partum tummy, floaty, pockets, and I could not get out to shops at the time (couldn't drive post emcs) I'm tall though so I loved the length and love a dress in summer- pop it on and your outfit is done. I realise it's not the peak of fashion rn but they made me happy.

I can’t remember what clothes giant said it recently, that clothes returns are really hammering them into the ground. They said more people just change their arm and send back almost immediately and it’s really hurting the clothing industry

I bought this recently which is nice.

YUNDAI Women's V Neck Floral... www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0B4CN9GPS?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

They need to get better at sizing consistency and have more realistic photography, rather than how they currently present clothes so they look nothing like they do in real life on an actual person.

It's not always people ordering 'hauls' for fun. Some of us are also beyond frustration with how expensive and time consuming online shopping is as delivery and returns are costing more and more.

ManyATrueWord · 18/03/2024 07:15

I've had some name brand bargains from Amazon such as Levi jeans.

Twinkly64 · 18/03/2024 15:11

I've had a couple of the Amazon essentials comfy day dresses, bought of vinted. Very comfy, nice soft material, slip on and wash and dry well. Very plain. Not much colour choice, but I have a red one and black one.

tobee · 18/03/2024 16:14

I think they're hampered by their search function. Or maybe I'm not using it properly?

I just put in cotton dress as an experiment and it came up 70% rayon and something else not cotton.

Then I put in 100% cotton dress and first thing that came up was 61% Polyester, 33% Viscose, 6% Elastane.

Cheap as chips though 😆

Isn't Amazon largely about trying to get everything up on a search function by adding tons of descriptor words in the listing?

I daresay there's a way to find good stuff but only if you know how.

tobee · 18/03/2024 16:18

It's a bit like when you look for books; search "Agatha Christie" or whoever and a load of sponsored books by totally different authors come up. Confused

Bjorkdidit · 18/03/2024 16:28

I don't understand the point of that. Do they really think people will buy any old crap instead of the item they actually want (and do people buy any old crap instead of what they actually want and if so, why??).

I use Amazon less and less these days, not for any particular ethical reason, but mostly because it's rarely the cheapest option and they often make it really difficult to find the thing I'm searching for.

Same here. I used to use Amazon a lot (its harder to decide to avoid it on ethical grounds when you live in the middle of the Scottish Highlands) but have been really making an effort to shop elsewhere for about a year now due to dishonest marketplace sellers, ridiculously high prices and search function that is useless due to the almost full page of irrelevant sponsored items you have to scroll through all the time.

Quizine · 18/03/2024 20:16

There is a lot of criticism of those who use Temu and Shein, but I reckon they (or some other Chinese outfit) supply a lot of the gear on Amazon anyway. I use Shein and Amazon BTW for holiday stuff and occasional events. I am no purist, life is life.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 18/03/2024 20:22

I got a couple of dresses, which were lovely. But, both were exact same style and size just different colours and were both very different in how they fit.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 18/03/2024 20:22

Oh, and I got an amazing jump suit with dinosaurs on which I love 😄

I love the sound of this! Do you have a link please? 😊

Tessisme · 18/03/2024 22:16

I bought a couple of loose fitting jersey dresses from Amazon and really like them. They did shrink a bit though. I spotted a similar dress on the Kit and Kaboodal website and sent away for it. When it arrived, it was exactly the same dress I already owned from Amazon, down to the very label! I decided to keep it anyway.

DodoTired · 19/03/2024 08:12

I had fantastic thick and not see through leggings from Amazon Basics

Sadly it's not available any more (I got it last year). The brand was clearlove.

Mosaic123 · 19/03/2024 15:18

My DS suggests a way around the rubbish and annoying Amazon search function is to search via Google (a very accurate search engine) for exactly what you want and look at Amazon links that come up.
For example "green 100% cotton v neck dress for women" and click on the Amazon links that pop up.

SalviaDivinorum · 19/03/2024 16:34

I bought a couple of things that were recommended on here (not in this thread) from Amazon but they were so poor I didn't keep them. They both had very thin cheap fabric and they looked it.
