Can I make this dress less 'booby'

I've fallen in love with this dress, but sadly I have a semi-decent sized, yet fairly saggy boobs so I must wear a bra. I'm wondering if there is a way to alter this dress to remove some fabric from the bottom (I'll need it hemmed anyway) and made into a panel of some short to fill / close the deep plunging neck of this dress so it covers my boobs and allows me to wear a bra.

Does anyone know or have any other tips?

I think a v neck cami with a bit of lace detailing just like your picture would look great. I think maintaining the v neck looks so much better.

This is actually what I would prefer. The straight across panel isn't really my ideal look, but I have to admit maintaining the V didn't initially come across as an option because normally I'd just sew / pin the V at the bottom to bring it up, but that's just not possible with this one.

Have you bought the dress and it can't be returned? At £625 I'd expect a dress to be perfect as it is. Taking a hem up is one thing but altering the actual design seems too much.

Adding the extra v material looks ok on your scribble but in real life I think I'd worry that it might be obvious it had been stuck on as a cover up.

I would say look for another dress which suits your boobs. I totally understand, as I also have the same boob problem with some pretty dresses, but, really, you just have to accept that your figure isn't right for some dresses.

mamakoukla · 13/03/2024 01:27

With the keyhole in the back and the open front - boob tape. Can also use it to take the boobs slightly out to the side and less to the front of the gape. Aesthetic sports eg gymnastics, skating use boob tape a to flatten the chest out and also a bra would look unsightly under a dress with say a deep V on the front, or open back

Ncncncworkywork · 13/03/2024 01:33

None of the workarounds look great tbh. If you want to change the hem and change the front then what's the point? I'd keep looking. What is it specifically you like about this dress?

Tetsuo · 13/03/2024 01:48

As a 'no-titter', as a woman that suits a straight up and down, I quite like the fact that that's how it goes.

homezookeeper · 13/03/2024 01:58

Literally just put a couple of safety pins in the boob split area with the majority of the pins facing inwards. No one's going to notice a tiny glint of silver metal.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 13/03/2024 03:25

“Please note that the delicate material may snag”.

Not sure I’d be willing to entertain any alterations.

YouDidntEvenAskIfSheWasThereMoriarty · 13/03/2024 03:31

I've got big boobs and tbh, I avoid dresses like this. I've never found a good way of making them fit.

It's just too low cut, I think.

Try a v neck or plunge neck swimming costume underneath with an integral bra feature. It will give some support and a very smooth silhouette. I'd go for a gold colour swimsuit.

StarlightLady · 13/03/2024 05:51

I’m afraid that l think if you are talking significant alterations straight away it is not the dress for you.

l’m a 36F and I’d wear it, but if you are not going to good in it, l don’t think anything will change that. Sorry OP.

Use tit tape to go braless but not moving around underneath?

tittybumbum · 13/03/2024 12:04

OP I think adding fabric to the V could work with a softly pleated sheet chiffon in black

I love the front of the dress but have you seen it in person? I'm not sure the back looks as good across the bum area. You may like it.

Don't fanny about changing the dress, especially at that price, just tape your tits. Use proper kinesiology or sports tape (elasticy and woven, really sticky, not the shitty paper stuff), some people are hard as nails and use duct tape. Shower with soap, no moisturiser, cotton pads over the nips then the tape. I've the Rixo Camellia dress which is a v similar shape and that's what I do - you can google how to do it and practice it before the day you want to wear it - takes 5 minutes and looks much better than panels or camisoles. I'm a 32E and I swear I could run in my tit tape - the trick is put it right up over your shoulder and be patient taking it off in the shower or it hurts! W

I'm the same size and I'm trying to imagine a tape structure that would work. Are you basically making a bra out of tape?

SlowlyLurking · 13/03/2024 15:02

You'll ruin the entire cut and feel of the dress by raising the neckline or adding a panel that wouldn't exactly match up with the bust and sleeves.

Either wear boob tape to hold you up instead of a bra or find another dress.

As in this image - I would ask a seamstress to put a strip of the hem material UNDER each side of the V to effectively close the v a bit, but look like an extra layer - a design feature. (as long as the hem is not cut on the bias - then it won't hold its shape). So it looks like a double layer? Does that make sense?

@YouDidntEvenAskIfSheWasThereMoriarty I do it like this, kind of overlap the bits of tape and make sure they're not all angled at 90 degrees from my shoulder, some cross over at 75 degrees-ish if that makes sense. If I know there will be mad dancing (e.g. Scottish/Irish wedding) I make sure the shoulder end goes right over onto my back and add two horizontal strips on my upper back to connect the two sides. Also, make sure you trim the edges of your tape strips to be curved, not sharp corners and that prevents them peeling. Honestly once you get the knack it's surprisingly sturdy and takes 5 minutes to do!

How to Use Boob Tape Correctly, According to Experts

Boob tape can provide incredible hold for outfits that don't work with a bra, but it's important to understand how to use it. Ahead, two brand founders break down their best tips on how to use boob tape.

Zara black basic strappy vest under the dress.

IcedPurple · 13/03/2024 17:16

I have a few 'modesty panels' which I wear under low cut dresses. They're lace or plain fabric bands which you put over your boobage and avoid the bulk of a camisole.

That said, I agree with others that this style may not be for you. I think adding in more fabric would 'weigh it down' and detract from the flow of the dress. It might be best to look at different styles which flatter your figure.
