How long do you let your Botox wear off before a top up?

Does your practitioner say it has to totally wear off before they will re-inject?

I really hate doing that as feel it makes it much more obvious when I go from really wrinkly to smooth each time so would prefer to get a top up at the first sign it’s wearing off but he says no it’s safer to wait until it’s all worn off then a further couple of weeks then have it.

What have your experiences been?

I go 4 months in between which my practitioner says is the norm but for some it can be 6 to 12 months. As soon as I see more than a little movement I want it again. But then I love my botox.

ThreeTescoBags · 06/03/2024 22:30

I do at least 4 months as well. Minimum my Dr will do is 12 weeks, but I like to leave it longer as it's not noticeably (to me) wearing off til around 5 months and it takes 2 weeks to take full effect.

MrBanana · 06/03/2024 22:34

I was told no more than every 3m.

Delatron · 06/03/2024 22:39

I found it looks more natural if I wait until it’s worn off completely. When I had a short gap of 3 months I thought it was wearing off but it looked awful when I had more! I was 4 months in Jan but still looked ok. Feb it had worn off and I’m just going to get more now. Have felt quite wrinkly for a month but it’s good to keep perspective and not overdo it

Freetodowhatiwant · 07/03/2024 05:05

I feel mine needs doing every 2 months! It’s really annoying. I don’t have a completely ‘stiff’ look maybe that’s why. Bloody expensive though. After about six weeks I am checking my calendar to see when I can get it done again.

Powderblue1 · 07/03/2024 06:28

I think o read if you have to some too close you can become immune to it over time. I go about every 4 months

Gibs0nGirl · 07/03/2024 06:42

I go about every 20 weeks. It's about 3 weeks too many this time, I'm on countdown!

I think you’ve been taken for a ride here then

It takes 3 weeks to take affect so you’re only getting 3 weeks of results?

Operationdark · 07/03/2024 09:48

Don't you feel completely trapped by this cycle? For the rest of your life presumably?

Gibs0nGirl · 07/03/2024 09:53

I get my review/top up 3-4 weeks after - if you're getting done every 8 weeks you're getting absolutely fleeced!

Monkeytapper · 07/03/2024 09:54

was every 4 months, but more 3 month lately

Icedoatlattelove · 07/03/2024 09:59

What does your practioner say? I've been advised to wait a minimum of 12 weeks. They won't do it any sooner. I'll be 12 weeks from my last treatment in a week or so. I have a bit of movement but might try to eeek out a few more weeks.

How long have you been going between treatments previously?

Not really. You can opt out at anytime with no consequences besides wrinkles.

Not really. You can opt out at anytime with no consequences besides wrinkles.

You can also pick it back up again or not. It's also not like the wrinkles just appear overnight. They just come back gradually. So you're not trapped in the sense you'll age 10 years immediately without them!

mirror245 · 07/03/2024 10:13

About every 7-8 months

Yes I feel incredibly and completely trapped by this cycle, it’s truly terrifying.

OP I found the practitioner preferred it to have totally worn off.

ferretface · 07/03/2024 11:19

5 or 6 months for me but I've been having it for years. If you maintain it you can space out the appointments unless you metabolise it very quickly. It's best not to overdo it because you can develop antibodies which inhibit its effectiveness.

ElinorDashwood68 · 07/03/2024 11:27

6 months

tittybumbum · 07/03/2024 11:27

@MrBanana @Sandanista @Freetodowhatiwant

I find it's starting to wear off after 2 months also. But I also go for the natural level where I still have a little movement as I don't like the totally mobile shiny forehead look.

I find it's fully kicked in by a week not 3. I tend to go every 3 months so it's pretty well all worn off by then

AlwaysGinPlease · 07/03/2024 16:59

Every May and November religiously. I find it odd people need it more often. I've been having it for years , I started for deep lines which it disappeared and the prevention of any extra wrinkles is a bonus.

Freetodowhatiwant · 09/03/2024 16:24

@tittybumbum this is exactly my experience. It’s annoying as I don’t like the completely frozen shiny look but equally frustrating when it feels it wears off too quickly.

@Gibs0nGirl I’ve never had a habitual review/top up! I’ve been to a couple of practitioners where I have had to go back for a slight adjustment but I don’t think this is seen as a top up. I wouldn’t mind finding someone who does top up though.

LilyRose88 · 09/03/2024 17:57

I go every 10-12 months. I have been having it for about 7 years though.

Gloriosaford · 09/03/2024 18:03

I used to be 3 x per year, now I like to leave it for 6-12 months, been having it for 12 years.

Gibs0nGirl · 09/03/2024 19:02

Wow @Freetodowhatiwant I think that's best practice; it also extends it by 3 weeks or whatever, so worth doing for sure.
