Don't like my balyage!

Dotdashdottinghell · 06/03/2024 17:49

It's partly my fault, I massively underestimated the time involved and rushed my hair dresser a bit, that's on me.
But I don't like the colour, it's a bit yellow, and for various reasons I can't go back to her to get it fixed, mostly time, I just can't get to the salon.
Do I stick a blue toner on it and hope it comes up less yellow but lighter, or but a dark blonde toner to just dampen down the effect of the whole thing?
Ggargh it cost a fortune and I just don't like it.

Then tell her you just don’t like it and get it fixed or use a toner at home - no point in complaining on MN, we can’t see it!

DowntonAgain · 06/03/2024 18:11

If you really can’t get back there, I’d call and see what they suggest. Any photos? Maybe it’s not as bad as you think.

Chill out, she’s asking for advice. AIBU is that way ➡️

There is literally nothing that we can do to advise.. OP knows that if she wants to get rid of some of the brassiness she can put a toner in at home, otherwise the only option is dying it darker or going back to the hairdresser to have it corrected

You’re a joy.

Ok then.. what is your very helpful advice for OP instead of jumping on to criticise me?

Aquamarine1029 · 06/03/2024 18:34

I would call the hairdresser, explain what the issue is, and ask her how you could correct it at home. She knows what she used on your hair so she would probably know best as to what you should use and what strength/volume.

You can read my post.

I’m going to ignore you now as OPs thread will be derailed. Bore off. 👋

I used this when my hair was a brassy yellow colour, it was brilliant. Toned it down nicely and lasted a fair while.

Don't like my balyage!
AllTheMiniEggs · 06/03/2024 18:50

I wouldn't call that balayage either. More very obvious highlights.

AllTheMiniEggs · 06/03/2024 18:51

Sorry, that sounded harsher than I meant! It's not awful at all. It will blend in once you've washed it a couple of times.

chingaling · 06/03/2024 18:51

When did you have it done?

Purple shampoo will remove some of the yellow tones. If you're still unhappy - go to a different place and ask them to tone it for you. I know you're time poor but you don't have to stay for a full blow dry and style. Box toners never hit the mark for me.
Good luck!

chingaling · 06/03/2024 18:53

Just seen the pics! Doesn't look like balayage, but looks nice! Use the shampoo and in a couple of weeks that'll be blended/faded.

What don't you like about it?

CuntRYMusicStar · 06/03/2024 18:53

I think the tone of the lightened hair works quite well with the rest of your hair.

Blue shampoo works on orange tones, purple works on yellow so it depends what you want to end up with.

Waitingfordoggo · 06/03/2024 18:55

I agree it looks nice and not very brassy- but I also agree it’s not balayage- just standard highlights.

Dotdashdottinghell · 06/03/2024 19:01

Well thank you all for the kind comments! Again my fault, but I asked for balyage with a bit of colour to break the roots up to disguise the greys a bit. I think I'm probably a nightmare client 😕
Do you really think it'll settle? I had it done last Friday.

Revelatio · 06/03/2024 19:44

I think the colour works well. I wouldn’t tone it as an ashy blonde would jar with your natural colour which is very warm. It will settle.

BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants · 06/03/2024 22:20

I think it is lovely and it will take bit time get used to but maybe just ring your stylist and ask for advise.

Muthaofcats · 06/03/2024 22:25

It’s not ballyage that’s full
highlights - they’re v obvious so I can see why would be a shock if you’d asked for ballyage but they really don’t look bad. I wouldn’t mess with it by putting dye on yourself - you could ask the hairdresser about how one could tone it down? But you don’t need to; it looks ok. You will have quite significant roots though when it starts to grow out which is why I hate highlights but perhaps next time can ask for some lowlights and a tint to break it up a bit and make more natural ?

Hohofortherobbers · 06/03/2024 22:26

I really like it! Specially the first pic. Lovely colours. I bet it will look really lush and glossy if you run the straighters through it.

Thisisthedawningoftheageofaquarius · 06/03/2024 22:29

I think it’s lovely! It might just be different to what you’re used to?

Aussieland · 06/03/2024 22:42

It’s gorgeous!

TesticularHeft · 06/03/2024 22:43

Get a toner from boots on that and it should be better. Then purple shampoo (provoke is strong for this sort of thing) and leave it for 5 mins per day. You will need a good conditioner as that will dry your hair. It's actually a lovely colour. Warm, but only slightly and not orange. And I say that as someone who rolls eyes when hair dressers say warm tones.

Issue for me is the solid streaks in the second pic.

I'd go back and make time.

If that's the colour from one sitting they will say it's a multi sitting job as that has lifted a lot!
