What trainers for an almost 50 year old?

I have a pair of Skechers that I like for the arch support, but my DD tells me they’re mumsy/very uncool. Any suggestions for trainers that an almost 50 year old can wear without looking stupid?

Are these for exercise or just walking? If the former I'd get a gait analysis

They’re for general wear—not exercising.

@theferry apologies - I thought you were looking for suggestions on arch support. I wear Moda (because of the rainbow off colour choices so you can get accent trainers or blend into background trainers) or Brookes for when I want my feet to feel supported.

My mum (70) and I (40) both wear vejas.

Hoff are nice

Pigglyplaystruant99 · 05/03/2024 22:09

I'm 52 and associate Sketchers with older people than me.

Justgivemesomepeace · 05/03/2024 22:18

I got some New Balance for xmas. I was thinking Sketchers but the young ones in my office talked me into these. They look good (I think) and they are comfy. Im 52.

I’m 53 and have just bought these Veja Campos. I also like the M&S New Balance dupes. I find the New Balance ones really uncomfortable for some reason.

I'm 37 and love how comfy skechers are! Ive got a 3 year old and a 6 year old so I've not got time to worry about on trend.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 05/03/2024 22:27

The only trainers that come close to the comfort of Skechers are Hoffs, I live in mine. NB are comfy enough but have weirdly short laces 🤷 Wear what trainers you like though OP - I'm 50 soon and couldn't care less if people think I shouldn't wear them!

Yellowsubmarineunderthesea · 05/03/2024 22:54

Surely depends on when/where you wear ur trainers, what supports you need, etc. I wear Brooks for running but find Asics good too. 60 yesterday, used to wear Sketchers in my 40s. Generally couldn't care but I do tend to associate them with younger people 🫣

Well, my mum's 81 and she wears Stan Smiths and Converse.

I'm 53 and I have just got some Adidas Forums which I love and some older retro looking New Balances. DD has pinched my Converse x 2 pairs. (I also have Brooks running shoes and Under Armour weights shoes).

Taylormiffed · 06/03/2024 07:13

Sketchers aren't very supportive. I'd splash out on some nikes or running trainers (saucony, Brooks etc).
I've been wearing in DD's air max for her and forgot how comfy they are (I'm 49).

Following for inspiration

Adidas Ozweego, so comfortable and look good on. DS 15 approved. They look a bit ugly on websites but give them a chance, they give the foot a nice shape, very supportive too.

boredybored · 06/03/2024 09:17

I'm 50 soon and I wear whatever I like ..

Mostly I like converse lift hi tops but have so many trainers

Don't let age determine your style !

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I’m going to visit Scuh and Office to try trainers on.

Hey OP

I have converse high tops with the big thick sole, they are so comfortable and I can wear all day. I also have converse ballet pumps which are comfy but defo not supportive and I'd not wear if I needed to walk a lot.

Trainer wise I recommend air max 90s or new balance 327's. My mum only wore sketchers until I bought her max 90s and she loves them! She has arthritis and a few issues with her feet but find the air max really supportive.

I'm in my 40s and my mums in her 60s.

I like Onitsuka Tigers.
