Can anyone recommend any waterproof walking boots that are actually waterproof please?

I have about £70 to spend but could do a bit more. I am so sick of buying boots labelled as waterproof but they can't cope with having to walk through puddles and I have had enough of ending up with wet socks and feet on every dog walk. Not fussed what brand. Just want dry feet! TIA 🥾🐶

You need leather ones, which you maintain with regular waxing. IME even really expensive fabric "waterproof" boots don't stay that way for long, and even new can't cope with proper wet conditions.

LoreleiG · 05/03/2024 16:21

Not sure but following!

BirthdayRainbow · 05/03/2024 16:22

Okay. Thank you. Any suggestions? Never had leather boots. I have decent wellies but I don't want to wear just those.

These are the greatest walking boots ever made. Totally waterproof, lighter than most trainers. My first pair lasted me 20 years including one year of daily wear on a round the world trip. Over your budget but worth it if you can stretch to it:

I discovered waterproof socks, game changer!!

I am really heavy at wearing down the heels on my walking boots so not keen on spending ££££

Limer · 05/03/2024 16:49

Consider getting waterproof socks instead of replacing your boots.

Amomentonthelips · 05/03/2024 17:00

I second proper leather boots like Scarpa. However, they can be heavy.
I bought these from Aigle and while twice your budget, they are much lighter, are goretex lined and I find them worth every penny:

MuckBoots Duck Boots.

Look out for them on offer (or shop around) to get them in your price range.

Rubber foot with walking shoe comfort.

FrothyDonkeyMilk · 05/03/2024 17:01

To add, I was exactly the same re dog walks and the Duck Boots have changed that totally. I never have wet feet now.

Cycling in Skye into a 30mph wind and driving rain. Soaked to the skin and freezing. The only part of me that was dry was my feet thanks to my waterproof socks! Highly recommended!

I have some from Decathlon, they were about £30 iirc and are completely waterproof

SnakesAndArrows · 05/03/2024 17:04

Goretex walking boots are waterproof - you don’t have to buy leather ones. I buy Salomon and have never had an issue with them not being waterproof.

Brackenfield · 05/03/2024 16:38

I have these too and they are amazing. I also rewax in autumn and now ish.

FrothyDonkeyMilk · 05/03/2024 17:08

IME there is no goretex boot that can repel water in longish wet grass. It seeps in after about 30-60 mins. I must have worn almost 20 pairs from all sorts of makes over the last few years and none are really waterproof in that scenario. Hence the move to something with a rubber foot.

BirthdayRainbow · 05/03/2024 17:23

I didn't even know that waterproof socks existed so I'll definitely be looking at those! I would spend more on boots if they lasted. I'm sick of mine giving up after about a year.

I have Mountain Warehouse own brand boots - basically fabric walking boots and they are brilliant. Soles are guaranteed for 5 years or 5000 miles (!). I haven't had wet feet since I got my new pair in January. They were £85 reduced from £140. They do a cheaper pair but it didn't have the sole I wanted otherwise I would have got them

Caspianberg · 05/03/2024 17:41

Agree with the scarpa leather ones. Mine must be 12+ years old and still really good condition. I clean them and add leather cream after each winter and they are great. I used through snow, actual small streams to cross and muddy wood and garden.

I also rate timberlands the black ones if you want something that ‘looks’ a bit better in town. I use a lot for daily town use again in snow or rain and they are old

LadyGreySpillsTheTea · 05/03/2024 17:48

There are waterproof SOCKS!!! This is going to revolutionize my hiking.

Same, my Salomons are years old and definitely waterproof.

Ohyoudodoyou · 05/03/2024 17:51

Brasher. Dry feet at the end of every wet and muddy walk.

LadyGreySpillsTheTea · 05/03/2024 17:53

So far I‘ve always had leather boots of various traditional brands and gone for the waxing technique. It works to a limited degree…

macshoto · 05/03/2024 17:57

Another vote for Scarpa here. I still have a pair of their boots that I received as a teen (so now more than 3 decades old) that I still use for gardening.l. Have a newer pair for hiking.

If you can live with the cost, and the weight, I would buy a pair like these and probably not have to replace them for years:
