Can anyone recommend any waterproof walking boots that are actually waterproof please?

I have about £70 to spend but could do a bit more. I am so sick of buying boots labelled as waterproof but they can't cope with having to walk through puddles and I have had enough of ending up with wet socks and feet on every dog walk. Not fussed what brand. Just want dry feet! TIA 🥾🐶

Most definitely leather if you want them to last, you can get leather with goretax. Even the best fabric ones will allow water in after a length of time. DD have a pair of Peter Storm one's around your price range she's never complained of wet feet.

As PPs have said, waterproof socks are a game changer. I gave up trying to find waterproof walking boots - they always let me down.

Blundstone boots are the best I've used and I love how they're slip on.
I see a few have mentioned the Brasher lightweight boots which are now Berghaus. Mine are at least 15 yrs old and going strong but I'd prefer a slip on boot to the traditional hiking boot laced up style.

I bought a relatively cheap pair of snow boots from Decathlon and they are such a game changer! I regularly walk the dog through a very muddy field with some parts submerged in large puddles and can wade through them with dry feet. They are easy to clean, and the fur lining makes them super cosy! Would highly recommend!

I do wellies on dog walks as it’s so muddy round here. My non-dog-walking walking boots are meindel which have done well so far.

My berghaus boots seem to do the job. (Suede, fabric, goretex). I used to do conservation volunteering, lots of wet undergrowth etc - no problem so long as water didn't come in over the top.

I don't think £70 is enough for a good pair of boots, but good ones should last much longer.

Do treat with appropriate Nikwax sprays though if they're not leather.

I've ordered some boots from Mountain Warehouse as I need some asap and I'll save for some new ones that will last last. Thank you everyone.

I've got an old pair of Berghaus fabric goretex boots which are great, I do re-waterproof them occasionally. I also wear saloman goretex trail shoes and my feet remained dry even in a torrential downpour.

Greenly3 · 05/03/2024 20:07

Thank you to all of you for the recommendations and the waterproof socks which I did not know existed!

I've got 2 spaniels and live in a very muddy village... I can't imagine walking in ankle boots, it's bad enough in knee high wellies and I'm wearing 2 pairs of trousers a day at the moment. Where are you all walking Grin

I second proper leather boots like Scarpa. However, they can be heavy.
I bought these from Aigle and while twice your budget, they are much lighter, are goretex lined and I find them worth every penny:

I think these are quite competitively priced comparing them with other mountain fit walking boots

Salomon, lightweight, waterproof and last years

Galatine · 05/03/2024 20:31

Gortex boots are your best bet. Many brands are available but you are unlikely to get them for £70. I personally like Merrell’s which are cheaper than most if you shop around.

GettingStuffed · 05/03/2024 20:51

I have some Jack Wolfskin ones that are fine. They got dirty and they kept a dry for a shower to clean them.

Pettifer · 05/03/2024 21:16

Buy a pair of pre-loved leather Berghaus boots from eBay. I got my pair almost unused for £35. I’ve have sooo many pairs of boots and Berghaus are the only ones that cut it. You also need a pair with a bonded tongue so the water doesn’t seep in if you step in a puddle.

Edited for typos.

You need some waterproof trousers! I have two pairs so I can always have one drying and one to use.

Hall84 · 05/03/2024 21:31

I just got some muckboots. So comfy and they had a code for 20% off. My friend uses hers for dog walking.

Mikkismum · 05/03/2024 21:42

I got these from Decathlon for dog walking and having had to paddle ankle deep on some of our walks recently, I can confirm they are totally waterproof.

Ariats

Various styles, I have ones you can also ride in (Terrains) but they do different ones. You want the H2O versions.
Will be more than £70 but worth it.

I have a spaniel too - if I manage to miss the mud, she shakes over me after going in the river!

A warning re waterproof socks-they are very big so may need to size up boots.
