Its the type of 'jaunty' coat that make Spanish and Italian people double up laughing at our gaudiness and bad taste.

Hmm I can think of Spanish and Italian companies with equally flamboyant clothing. Sure when you visit an Italian or Spanish city the people you see mostly wear black - but that's the same in the UK.

whiteroseredrose · 01/03/2024 10:59

The vomit parka page has gone. Someone must have bought it!

Yet they are ten times better dressed than we are…. Funny that Boden isn’t that popular outside of the UK isn’t it.

It looks like Elmer

Was going to say the same thing - World Book Day is coming up....

soupfiend · 01/03/2024 11:27

I'm in Italy now and I can tell you that Italians and the Spanish wouldn't bat an eyelid at it, and for posters asking, the Boden trench coat pictures show 2 different colours when you scroll through the pictures but there is only one choice on the option. The very first picture of the woman with the child is a nice coat the following pictures not so much

Yes was wondering if it was just me! So weird

bingohandjob · 01/03/2024 11:36

Dreadful coat but thank you for giving me a lovely flashback to the picnic blanket my nan had in the early 80s that served many a happy beach trip.

Bringtheweatherwithyou · 01/03/2024 11:39

and the Spanish wouldn't bat an eyelid at it,

They laugh.

They play games such as ‘Spot the English/Irish)’.

It’s like a hobby for them. They sit having coffee remarking a LOT about our clothes.

I’ve been with them numerous times (and find it embarrassing and rude).

NarcissaMalfoysManicure · 01/03/2024 11:39

I hate the fact that I quite like it. I think certain people could carry it off (not me, though)

CormorantStrikesBack · 01/03/2024 11:39

I’d only seen the first one. But it’s two completely separate coats, not just different colours. The second one is worse. I’d be cross if I’d just seen the first photo and ordered it and the second one turned up. How can Boden website be so bad?

We have spanish family so have lots of conversations about cultural differences, but in fashionable cities clothing is often a bit out there, in the suburbs, not so much. The English are usually identified by slobby , scruffy 'active wear' which gives the game away, plus they're nearly always pasty and overweight which I'm afraid does get commented on

Yes and bright garish colours. And footwear although since trainers became more everyday footwear, this is now less commented on.

Spanish family here too.

I wasn’t going to mention the weight but absolutely a topic of hilarity for them. Then again, they have no issue telling each other they look like they have gained extra KG too. It’s factual I suppose.

Boden clothes are not very nice. Unless you are 5 and really jolly all the time.

Exactly this. Clothes for jolly toddlers.

ChaoticCrumble · 01/03/2024 12:12

If it was £80-100 it'd fly off the virtual shelves.

£350 is insane for this from Boden.

So far as these (mythical) fabulously stylish and never overweight Italian and Spanish people, get back to me when in the case of Italians you've stopped the illegal trapping of millions of songbirds every year and (b) in the case of the Spanish, bullfighting and chasing terrified animals set on fire through the streets.

Not relevant I know to S&B but I'm so bored with these "oh, [insert favourite national stereotype] is so much better than the British/ Irish/ English."

EverydayParis · 01/03/2024 12:13

Oh I hadn’t scrolled through to notice the photos on the Boden website were of two different coloured coats! I like the first one, and now I’ve seen the second bolder one, no I don’t like that one so much.

It says trench coat?

I meant this link from page 1 which shows 2 identical greens as a colour link and opens to different patterns.

Hooded parka

purpleme12 · 01/03/2024 12:56

But we were talking about the one the thread was about

MrsWhattery · 01/03/2024 12:57

i love colour and pattern, but bloody hell. Ugly AND £350 AND polyester???? For a coat? I know polyester dresses are everywhere but that should be wool for that price, and they could be supporting uk woollen mills.

inamarina · 01/03/2024 15:16

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 29/02/2024 23:15

These are the same idea , but much, much nicer.

The Avoca one is beautiful and far better made. See how the pattern on the back seam is properly lined up. The Avoca coat is 100% wool, fully lined in viscose and only £70 more. I've got a multi coloured wool jacket from Avoca. It's at least 6 years old, gets lots of wear and is as good as new.

I much prefer the Avoca one 🙂
I like colour and also colourful checks, but the Boden one does look a bit like Elmer, and I’m not so keen on the overall shape.
I think trench coats can look really fabulous - or quite boring, depending on their style and shape.
I personally prefer longer, more oversized ones. Short and too fitted makes them look more plain.
And £350 is definitely way too much for 100% polyester.

Criticising people's skin colour is always so classy.

shenandoahvalley · 01/03/2024 16:30

There's very little in Boden's casual/non-workwear range that doesn't look like oversized toddler clothes. It's not remotely chic, elegant, stylish, flattering. At best, it looks like it's aiming for "kooky". Their evening stuff is decent for your average 70yo woman looking for something "snazzy".

neveradullmoment99 · 01/03/2024 19:52

Absolutely horrific. I mean, maybe in a slightly less bright colourway but its so bright. Not for me and definitely not at that price!

Lifeomars · 01/03/2024 20:43

Excellent choice for a clown's wedding or funeral

I think sainsburys stuff is actually really nice quality.
I'm too tight for cash currently to spend on new pjs that I don't need but they've lovely jammies in!

I've had some lovely stuff from there, my winter coat, some very nice jumpers and some beautiful summer dresses. I also get bits for a friend's toddler and they too are really good quality
