Is a colour analysis worth it?

Hello, I’m considering having a colour analysis and wondered what people’s opinions were on it. If you’ve had one, have you found it useful?

Yes. Very.

NeurodivergentBurnout · 27/02/2024 07:21

I had mine done through House of colour. I thought maybe it was a novelty thing but I actually have stuck with it ever since and it’s been 7 years since I had mine done! I had my style done a little later.
I’d say it’s worth it. Now I can walk into a shop and do a sweep across and be pretty confident about what will suit me. It’s saved me a lot of money buying stuff that doesn’t look right. I can’t remember the last time I got something that I never wore/hardly wore. Also it’s a dream to pack going on holiday because everything colour co-ordinates! I feel more confident because I know I look good in my clothes, whereas before I’d be like 😬 ‘Does this look okay?’. I have a lot less clothes but what I have suits me.

ChocoChocoLatte · 27/02/2024 07:49

I didn't think so at the time but yes, I know what colours suit me.

Took DD1 and opted for an additional style session for her, that was a total waste of money.

But the colour part was good.

ChIcKeNeLlEn · 27/02/2024 07:50

Where can you get this done?

Notsandwiches · 27/02/2024 07:53

I had the House of Colour one. Waste of money. Didn't tell me anything I didn't already know. Save your money and go into a shop and try on lots of scarves.

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 27/02/2024 07:54

Yes, worth every single penny.

Ditto everything. Saved me typing the same.

Worth it especially if you’re not an easy one- I’m such an obvious true winter I used the free ones online but it has made a huge difference to how I shop/look. Beautiful jewel colours all the way!

Not everyone has the same colour sense that you do.

Squirrelsonthescaffolding · 27/02/2024 07:59

I read the book many years ago. Definitely think having an awareness of what colours suit you saves time with trying things on. Some people probably have this naturally and most of us probably have some awareness. I found it helpful fr example to know which kind of brown would be ok as I’d always avoided it.

nowtygaffer · 27/02/2024 08:02

You can do it yourself by finding a celebrity that you share same colouring with then seeing what are their colours. Obviously not as detailed as paying for a service but will set you off in the right direction!

0psiedasiy · 27/02/2024 08:08

I did stylemehappy.co.uk it's £75, slots are made available at 10am on weekdays they go quickly. You send photos in at the time of booking and it's online. As others have said it's made things easier when shopping and I now look more together... Definitely worth it

GettingStuffed · 27/02/2024 08:46

I've seen it tried on YouTube and to be honest it didn't make a lot of difference. I think a lot of people know what colours suit them.

Came here to say this.

I also used HoC & honestly, it's been such a good investment. Even down to buying the right shade lipsticks.

Can't recommend it highly enough.

I bought a consultation for my mum & my best friend at the time after I had mine done too. My mum still sticks to hers & looks fab.

Apple2023 · 27/02/2024 08:49

Thank you everyone. This sounds so positive! I’m going to invest and get an analysis! Thank you!

Try and go on recommendations, I used House of Colour and found the lady through Google- she was useless! I came away with colour charts galore. I think she must have been new to the job and she obviously didn't have a clue. Find someone others have bee really happy with.

Apple2023 · 27/02/2024 10:13

I’ve booked an analysis through style me happy! I’d been considering doing this for the last 6 months, so I’m glad I’ve now made the investment. Looking forward to getting my results!

Thanks for all your help!

True, but those that don't aren't gullible fools for not knowing.

I have had mine done twice - 30 years apart. I was assessed as winter the first time, then winter again the second time, but jewel winter. Back then they didn't have subdivisions of the seasons.

Nearly all the colours were the same, except that the recent HOC consultant ditched the pastels I was told suited mt and added emerald green (which wasn't suggested first time round). I have to admit that the green was a revelation to me, and really works for my colouring.

Styled By Susie does an online style analysis, the basic version (colour and shape) is £35.

DanceMumTaxi · 27/02/2024 12:40

I got just the colour analysis from style me happy and it’s been helpful. But I’m a bright winter and lots of the clothes around at the moment are too warm or too muted. I know I look better in my ‘best colours’ but they’re hard to find right now, so it doesn’t always make shopping easier, but I do look better. SMH also has a fantastic Facebook group. The people on it are really helpful and positive.

Unless she's revised her business model, the analyses were a bit cut and paste, and shown to be. An ex stylist of hers, Emily something, went out on her own and may be called style me happy, if I remember correctly. Much better service imho.

Keepingongoing · 27/02/2024 13:42

I’ve not had it done professionally but researched it myself after a horrible moment when I realised a colour I wore a lot didn’t compliment my skin tone at all! And made me look ill! Since then I’ve been in the warm tones ( teals, reds, olives) and get lots of compliments. But think I’d like to get an analysis done professionally as there are more subtypes now.

@DanceMumTaxi , try Kettlewell Colours. They do mainly jersey fabric basics in a very wide range of colours - and they are all organised into seasons. So if you’re looking for a particular shade of green, you can search by the colour. You can also search by your season. Not the height of fashion but good quality base layers and other styles. The website is looking a little thin just now but I’m informed that their SS24 styles will be up early March.

I’ve had mine done by Emily, pretty sure everyone in the same sub season gets the same report so it’s pretty cut and paste too- which is fine for the price imo

Darklane · 27/02/2024 20:43

Yes, I think it’s worth it.
I had it done with House of Colour & the result was really eye opening. I was completely convinced that I would be a summer or winter as I’m very pale, deathly so, with turquoise eyes & natural white blonde hair. But I was found to be a Spring!
A Blue Spring so the coolest sub division of it . Such a difference when I put the colours into practice, actually looked alive instead of a walking corpse. I’d never, never have diagnosed myself from online even having read the Colour Me Beautiful books back in the day. It also makes shopping so much easier as others have said.
Best investment in my wardrobe ever.

Weddingmom · 27/02/2024 20:44

Yes, totally change everything I wear and buy
