I'll be wearing with trainers or sandals - low ones.

Different shape, but linen - and Toast are usually generous with fabric. They also come in an olive colour, but I think the biscuit is nicer.

OP said she didn't like the drawstring waist though.

I had a quick look @CharlotteBog and lyocell will most likely shrink by about 3% on first wash.

I think the fit is perfect for a hot climate. You don't want them too snug as they need to be a bit wafty to let air in. (speaking as someone from a hot country) If you pair it with a closer fitting top, it balances out the wideness.

The top you have on in the pic, seems quite loose, hence the waist not looking quite right to some.

I absolutely cannot order trousers online. I have to try on every pair in store as there are so many fits and lets not even start on the sizings. Just see what the long length looks like on when they have them, and decide from there. The bonus of these not being linen is that they won't crinkle as much.

It was just the thermal top I had on under my regular clothes, but yes I tend to wear more fitted tops, otherwise I look a bit swamped.

I think if they are comfy like you said just wear them, in a hot, dusty country especially. Any longer they will just pick up the dust and look a mess.

CharlotteBog · 25/02/2024 17:05

After all that, the L are about 1/2cm longer. I've decided I hate shopping. I've kept the L, also got some black tapered linen ones in L which look better than the wide tbh.
Anyway, I'm sure you're all entirely bored of this.
Oh I did try some cargo ones - looked like I was about to go on scout camp

And this from Next. Think I'll have to put a vest underneath.

Hard to tell but the L do look better from that photo.

The blouse will be fine with a nude bra, it’s nice.

BlossomBlossomBlossom · 25/02/2024 17:16

You’ve done well!

Add a good leather belt and some sunglasses and you’ll be all set. No vest needed. Maybe some delicate gold or silver jewellery? (I would probably want a linen jacket for my presentation, and would be useful in an air conditioned conference hall.)

XiCi · 25/02/2024 20:06

Sounds like a successful shopping trip OP. The L do look better and I really like the top

What's not flattering about them, and what style would be better for my remit?

I think they make you look wider than I suspect you are

Oh I see. I don't mind so much. Maybe after an iron they'll hang a bit better.

Those of you who said they were still too short and/or that they didn't fit me well were right! I've seen photos from the conference and they look ill fitting and a bit shabby. It's not helped by me not having the right thing on top so I can sort that out for summer.
I was glad they were a little short because I wore them on the day out we had and really didn't want them dragging in the dust and in the toilets.

The linen shirt really did need a vest underneath as it was gaping massively when I was sitting down or leaning over, showing my bra.

Neither really matter, it was an academic conference where everyone's informally dressed.

Oh, the conference went very well .

I think they look the right length, although it’s slightly difficult to tell without shoes in pic. But l always think better on the short side than to suffer from “rising damp” or a grubby hem.

StarlightLady · 11/03/2024 10:18

Sorry, just read the update after pressing send. Guilty as charged 😀! I’m please everything went well. I certainly wouldn’t worry about the bra thing. If a bit of bra can be seen, all it means is that you have a bra on, which most if us wear most of the time.

In my regular day to day life I would agree with you, but I was in India and would prefer not to flash my bra. It was a plain nude one though so quite modest.

That's OK, you're being honest. They are very, very comfortable.
I'm going to a conference in India in a week or so and most of my very warm clothes are suitable for summer holidays rather than presenting to 200 people!

It's academic so not formal.
I don't have time to shop apart from this Sunday for a couple of hours.

@CharlotteBog

personally, I think they'll be perfect for that. How many colours do they come in? You could be sorted with a couple of pairs in different colours.

it's not a fashion show, where a cm shorter/longer is going to matter. & you don't want them trailing on the ground!!

Totally get that, but don’t let that detract from what went right with the event!

SORRY, didn't read past your post I commented on.

Oh I'm not. It was a very, very successful meeting both professionally and for me personally.
