Too short?

I'll be wearing with trainers or sandals - low ones.

To me this length is perfect. But I do wear flatform type shoes as I don't have the height that you do.

But I don't like the longer length that touches the ground generally. First they get all mucky and secondly I tend to trip over them.

Sandals with these will look great too.

I also wear platforms - I have an amazing pair I wore to a wedding!

I love them and think they are very cool and very flattering. Perfect length if you’re going to be in a city like Delhi, you don’t want anything that actually reaches the floor because they’ll get dusty and filthy.

XiCi · 23/02/2024 07:31

Yes they look too short, a very awkward length that's not even ankle grazer so just looks like they don't fit you

I get regular length at M&S and I'm just under 5ft5 so I would have definitely thought at 5ft8 you'd need long length for all their trousers

Cyclingmummy1 · 23/02/2024 07:32

Too short, but I always wear trousers trailing on the ground.

BlossomBlossomBlossom · 23/02/2024 03:50

Couple of years ago I got these from Raey @ Matches - the cropped length is perfect and I now can’t imagine wearing this type of trouser with the hem pooling on the ground. Both impractical and kind of missing the point of the look.

So I’d probably make yours a touch shorter …

They're nice, but that style on me (loose with tapered ankle) tends to look a bit pyjama.

I adjust my long trousers so they just touch the floor in bare feet, that way they are just off the floor in shoes but don't look half mast.

If you wear really high heels you might want longer but then you can only wear those trousers with the right shoes.

LuciferRising · 23/02/2024 07:48

I like them. I think trousers on the ground look too long.

CharlotteBog · 23/02/2024 07:51

So these are also M&S Regular. I do know what size usually fits me!
It might be that they tend to hang loose around my waist as I my belly is flat.
I don't want them to drag on the floor as 1) I think it looks messy rather than trendy on me and 2) it's always chuffing raining

I have some jeans in 2 lengths and the long only get worn with one pair of heeled shoes - make my legs look SUPER long!

Personally I think it's the fabric rather than the length, though slightly longer would be better. The black ones look great, but these hang and fold in an indeterminate way that isn't very flattering. Maybe because they are too wide for your hips? Or it's just the way the fabric hangs.

Sussurations · 23/02/2024 07:57

I think they are actually too wide and that’s what’s not working for you. If they were any longer they would swamp you completely.

with the right shoes (flatforms might work, or I think flat mules) they will be okay at that length but they are not very flattering to your (very nice) proportions.

soupfiend · 23/02/2024 07:58

I think they are perfect length for flat shoes

I cant stand trousers that come down to the ground or over the shoe, Im afraid that picture just above of the black trousers is an example of that, I think it looks scruffy, like charlie chaplin with his massive oversized trousers.

Sussurations · 23/02/2024 07:59

Cross post with Onelifeonly

Agree the fabric is not quite right.

CharlotteBog · 23/02/2024 08:01

😢
I just wanna wear wide leg to be in fashion (a bit!).

They are so comfy and they're not for a wedding or tv appearance or anything.

Dunno, I am collecting the L on Sunday so I can have a look around for a more flattering fabric, but it's going to be warm so can't be too heavy.
I don't have time to shop much.

That was my son's graduation - thankfully the focus was on him.
Mind you that day involved a frantic call from him about an hour before the ceremony saying his suit was at his girlfriend's (where he wasn't) and some mad cycling. Perhaps we just do trousers in our family.
I usually wear the black ones with trainers - slightly higher - just didn't think that was appropriate for graduation.

I had meant to ask you about fabric, @CharlotteBog. Given the likely temperatures wouldn’t you be better off with linen? If it’s weighty, not thin, it won’t flap or flop at any length.

bigTillyMint · 23/02/2024 08:56

M&S trousers are so variable! I am also 5’8” and alternate between L and R.

Could you try sizing down with the L - they do look very big on you, and if the waist is loose they may be a size too big?

You're right. I did look for linen, but they either didn't have the colour or the size I wanted, or had a draw string tie which I don't like. I can have a look in store on Sunday.

The size down L would be a 6L which frankly is vanity sizing gone mad. I am slim for sure, but by no means whatever a 6 is meant to be.

These are actually quite fitted on my bum at the back so I think a size down would be too snug.

Of course 😃but M&S is usually a safe bet for fit, quality etc. I can't be arsed to order tonnes of stuff from other stores and be sending it all back.

Hmm …

I’m not tall, but going by things I’ve found unexpectedly voluminous you might (in the fullness of time) try:

Acne Studios
American Vintage
Raey - as above
Studio Nicholson - great trousers, have a look at their amazing proportions and hemlines.

Admittedly none of these are M&S prices but they obviously have sales, and can also probably be found new on pre-owned sites.

I really like them and I think they are flattering. It's the look.

I don't think they're too short as trousers are being worn a bit cropped at the moment!

I might buy a pair but I suspect they won't be flattering on my figure!

minipie · 23/02/2024 10:04

I think you need longer length and either a belt or a size down so they sit further up on your waist.

They look too big. I know they are wide leg but they look too big round the waist too.

Wide legs need to sit further up to look right IMO or they just look like you’re in the wrong size.

minipie · 23/02/2024 10:05

Look where the waist sits on the model photos - belly button level
