wedding outfit for 'larger' pg lady

dizzydixies · 24/03/2008 11:23

hi all, will be going to cousin's wedding in May when I'll be 30wks pg with dc3 - I fluctuate between 16-18 on bottom and 18-20 on top without being pg so you can imagine I am rather like a weeble wobble at the moment

now although not a 'posh' wedding, i.e. no dress code, it is going to be posh in the sense her dress is couture/wedding bands from tiffanys and venue exclusive hire or entire castle - people have been sorting their outfits for weeks

I have a very limited budget and will already have to hire kilt for dh at cost of £85 - girls are sorted as they are flower girls and I only have to supply them with shoes

I can't be seen to be scrimping as the accomodation/food etc all paid for by bride's father and its a free bar and by chance we happen to live closest to venue so only a 45 minute drive - therefore its not costing us a huge amount to go in the grand scheme of things

anyway, am harping on. I need something nice but obviously not bank breaking as will only be worn for a short time after (could possibly go back on ebay after though)

am not a dress kids gal and was thinking of smart/wide legged trousers with top - hopefully trousers will allow wearing of flip flops underneath - nice ones?

is that appropriate of am I going to have to bite the dress bullet here?

dh, bless him, says I can get what I want on credit card and will use birthday money to pay for it so of course have been eyeing up Isabella Oliver but top and trouser combo comes in at £150

any ideas/recommendations gratefully received and sorry for long blethering post

ah, you're not a dress gal... I have a maternity evening gown/bridesmaid's dress on the for sale board...

Maidamess · 24/03/2008 11:26

I think wide legged trousers with a nice (sparkly?) tunic style top would be nice, or a long line coat jacket thing . A funky necklace can make the most plain outfit look amazing too, and you will def. wear again.

Not so sure about flip flops though, no matter how nice they are. they might make your outfit look a little too dressed down.

dizzydixies · 24/03/2008 11:26

am not sure if being pg would change my shape enough to wear a dress monkey
I normally don't wear them as they go over my norks and hang like a tent ignoring the fact I have a hint of a waist in there!

i love teh wrap top, the baby doll could look abit weird on a real pregnant person, infact the phrases 'baby doll' and pregnant woman do not belong in the same sentence ... ever. trousers are nice enough btu i think if you got the top you could get plain trews from h&m or some place and save a few quid.

dizzydixies · 24/03/2008 11:28

no flip flops at all ?

OP posts:
Maidamess · 24/03/2008 11:29

Why flip flops? Comfort? Or price?

dizzydixies · 24/03/2008 11:31

comfort am not the most adept at walking in anything higher than flats or trainers at the best of times and we have to walk from castle to church and back again as well as controlling my tazmanian devil dd2 in the hope she won't wreck her flowergirl dress before the ceremony

dizzydixies · 24/03/2008 11:33

thanks goat - have seen similar trousers in Next was considering, they were really just becuse was on Isabella Oliver website and was just being lazy using the link - our H&M is rubbish up here - all jersey/comfort gear which in itself is great but just not what I need right now

Maidamess · 24/03/2008 11:33

hope its not raining, but what about this kind of thing?

llareggub · 24/03/2008 11:34

How about ballet pumps instead of flip flops? Then you won't need to worry about painting your toe nails!

SheherazadetheGoat · 24/03/2008 11:34

i thinkyou can wear flip flops as long as they are lovely ones and you paint your toenails and you heels aren't mingorama

dizzydixies · 24/03/2008 11:35

yes, that the kind of thing, was hoping if trousers were wide/long enough I might get away with something like that for footwear

just need an outfit now lol

dizzydixies · 24/03/2008 11:36

lol llareggub always an option

DIzzydixies, I have a pair of Next black maternity wide-legged trousers that you'd be welcome to have - only thing is that they're a size 20, so might be too big. They're a kind of thin-ish silky jersey material - I loved them, and wore them a lot, but they're still in good condition.

dizzydixies · 24/03/2008 13:04

jackieNo thank you so much for your lovely offer, I already have black wide leg trousers as I wear them for work, I was just hoping not to have to wear black again as wore black to wedding in Nov and got slated for it by the 'aunts' lol

will no doubt wear them and fingers crossed for a nice bright top - thank you again though

MonkeybirdisboredWITHbuns · 24/03/2008 13:16

Aha, but MY dress is an extremely flattering fitted empire line shape, designed to caqrefully hug those pg boobs, and skirt flowingly over your bump...

It is bright blue though . My sister's choice I might add; I particularly enjoyed looking like a big fat blueberry all day

champagnesupernova · 24/03/2008 13:21

I definitely think ballet pumps are a smarter option than flipflops, even making allowances for the fact that you're pg.

Isabella Oliver stuff apparently retains its price well on ebay - or another alternative is to hire something?
HTH

dizzydixies · 24/03/2008 13:25

monkey I had a look and as nice as it sounds (blue is my fav - I even got married in it!) I am def an 18-20 on the bust at least so don't think it would fit.

champagne I've seen that hire website but to be honest I didn't like much of it for the prices, would rather buy something and continue to wear it for 3rd & 4th trimester

will have a look for some 'smart' ballet pumps - I thought sparkly/jewelled sandals/flip flops might have looked nicer but always open to suggestions lol

OP posts:
JackieNo · 24/03/2008 13:48

No worries, dizzydixies. I'd also definitely recommend some ballet pump-type shoes rather than flip flops. Something like these, maybe, depending on what colours you're wearing.

JackieNo · 24/03/2008 13:54

Not sure what the quality's like, but there is some OK-looking stuff on Simply Be? Might work - this outfit looks nice. And I like the Jewel trim jersey top in the top row.

dizzydixies · 24/03/2008 13:58

had seen that top too JackieNo but the sodding bridesmaids are in purple and didn't want to wear purple, may come to that though!

OP posts:
JackieNo · 24/03/2008 14:02

Oh bother. The first one, in the pic with the linen trousers, isn't completely purple, so might do. Maybe just buy linen trousers for £30, then you can afford to spend more on the top, and buy from Isabella Oliver?

PatsyCline · 24/03/2008 15:05

Crave is a nice site and they go up to a size 20.

I think that this is a lovely blue

Funkier?

This is also a bit special for a wedding from Mamas and Papas. I have a top by M&P and it's very flattering.

I hope that you find something, DD.

Patsy

dizzydixies · 24/03/2008 15:07

oh patsy thank you - loving the blue one, no surprise to anyone that knows me though!!
