What’s a good cleanser that you don’t wash off?

I know wash off ones are supposed to be better which I assume is why they are everywhere, but I prefer to remove make-up with a cream or liquid cleanser. I like the convenience of micellar water but I think it’s quite drying. Can anyone suggest something else? Ideally a range with a good SPF moisturiser as well.

I'm no a similar quest - so don't have any actual recommendations. Though have you looked at cleaning balm? I'm going to get one - they are moisturising too.

There could very well be a brand our there that has a balm as well.as s moisturiser with a SPF

(Also can't help here as I will just still with my current moisturiser regardless of the brand of balsm. sorry!!)

Any kind of greasy balm that you just wipe off with a face cloth. Elemis cleansing balm is one but sure there are plenty others

In fact, Astral cream (cheap, big blue pot) is absolutely amazing for removing makeup

TheYearOfSmallThings · 16/02/2024 08:20

I use Garnier aloe cleansing milk - massage it on with fingertips, then wipe it off with a moistened cotton wool pad.

Yep this.

Micellar water

French brands tend to do tissue-off cleansers. I've liked the milk cleansers from Avene, Nuxe and L'Occitane.

Grannygoldfinch · 16/02/2024 10:29

I've just got a cleansing balm from M&S- thinks the brand is apothecary, 12.50, big tin, and it smells gorgeous. It leaves your face feeling lovely.

WizardinTraining · 16/02/2024 10:31

So do you remove these lovely sounding balms with water or a cloth?

I use L'Oreal age perfect cleanser & toner, following a recommendation on here and I'm really happy with them. Added bonus that it's cheap!

WildFlowerBees · 16/02/2024 10:38

Balm cleaners remove with a cloth.

Body shop chamomile balm
Elemis balms
Elf balm
Superdrug's own
M&S pure the rose one
Emma Hardie Moringa (gorgeous!)
Trinny be your best

For a cream

Skin Rocks in the pink tube
Ordinary Oat cleanser
No7 cream cleanser

Also oils

Votary
Elemis
Pai rosehip
Emma Lewisham

All of them lovely!

My friend has used Astral all her life, now in her 60s, her skin looks amazing.

InsidiousRasperry · 16/02/2024 10:44

Tbh I wash all cleansers off with a warm facecloth anyway, if you’re meant to or not 🤣

Have you tried the Liz Earle cleanse and polish? I really like that or the probiotic one for this time of year.

StrangewaysHereWeCome · 16/02/2024 11:18

I use La Roche Posay Toleriane cleanser. IIRC the instructions say you can just remove with cotton wool or a tissue, although a prefer to use a flannel.

Porfirio · 16/02/2024 11:30

I use rose petroleum jelly (Vaseline) followed by a toner to wipe clean. Makes my skin lovely.

WizardinTraining · 16/02/2024 12:33

Thank you, these do sound nice - I'm just not keen on water on my face which I know sounds a bit weird so interested to find alternatives.

CervaVe miccelair water isn't drying.

itsmyp4rty · 16/02/2024 13:34

I use Green People's cleanser and never use water after, I find it's really good. If you want something really, really lovely (and expensive) then Trevarno's rose one is gorgeous. I very, very rarely use the water here on my face as it very hard and horrible.

BlindurErBóklausMaður · 16/02/2024 15:17

Micellar water isn't great for skin. It's great at removing make up but it doesn't cleanse skin. It leaves a greasy film behind.

Balm cleansers are thick and oil /wax based so need to be removed with hot water and a cloth or you'll leave it on your face, potentially clogging pores.

Boots N7 do a nice cleansing milk for dry skin which I like (white bottle with a lilac band)

Nowtbettertodo · 16/02/2024 15:48

I got a small sample of this as a gwp last year. It is gorgeous, but unfortunately out my price range for everyday use.

Clinique all the way! Take the day off is what I use with moisture surge moisturiser. Best combo for me and I have very sensitive skin

Noseybookworm · 17/02/2024 22:37

Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish is fab. Actually the whole range is lovely and doesn't irritate my sensitive skin!

JamMakingWannaBe · 17/02/2024 22:41

Superfacialist cream cleanser or face oil with a hot cloth.

Popcicle123 · 17/02/2024 23:01

Look up Tropic, they do a smoothing cleanser u remove with a bamboo cloth. It’s maybe pricey compared to other but it lasts for ages and is so good. My ski was awful before I started using it. I also use their sun day moisturiser which has SPF. I honestly can’t recommend it enough
