What’s a good cleanser that you don’t wash off?

I know wash off ones are supposed to be better which I assume is why they are everywhere, but I prefer to remove make-up with a cream or liquid cleanser. I like the convenience of micellar water but I think it’s quite drying. Can anyone suggest something else? Ideally a range with a good SPF moisturiser as well.

The problem you're going to have is that a cleansers job is supposed to remove dirt, makeup and impurities from your skin. So the majority of them are going to need washing off, to take the impurities with it. You can use a damp cloth if you dont want to use water. I also sometimes cleanse, then use micellar water to remove the cleanser, when I cant be bothered to wash my face after. But to be honest I rarely use a cleanser. I use micellar water, elf toner, exfoliator, hyaluronic acid, vitamin c and a good moisturiser. I have great skin when I actually stick to a good routine every day

Elf cleansing balm is amazing

Onemorefortheroad · 17/02/2024 23:34

I use the tropic cleanser followed by one of their cleansing powders if Iv been wearing make up. I don't sell it or anything like that and would like to find something similar and less pricey but have struggled as I have extra sensitive skin 😞

BlueGrey1 · 18/02/2024 00:42

Micelles water with cotton pads, gets everything off even waterproof mascara,

Its the only cleanser I have used for the last 7/8 years and nothing suits my skin as well as it, better than any other cleanser I have found and I have tried a lot over the years

Stressedoutmammy · 18/02/2024 08:41

I’m exactly the same as you, prefer a cream cleanser for every day. There aren’t many about but I use No 7 from boots. I ran out this week and stocked up, it was 3 for 2 and they had £10 off a £20 spend.

I love Liz Earle’s Cleanse & Polish

Nbo · 18/02/2024 13:58

Body shop camomile cleanser is lovely and fantastic at removing make up

BreezyLurker · 18/02/2024 15:35

I generally like a water wash cleanser but when I CBA I’ve used bodyshop cream cleanser & hydrating toner with cotton wool pads- pretty good at getting makeup/dirt/grime off without water

WizardinTraining · 18/02/2024 15:39

I haven’t shopped at the Body Shop in years and now there are recommendations for what sound like good products just as they’ve gone under 🤦🏻😂

To remove make up and spf you need to double cleanse.

i always start with a cleansing balm that I remove with a wet flannel. I then follow usually with a cleansing oil.

For spf you’ll probably need a different brand. La Roche posay is great.

if you don’t already follow the Queen of skincare Caroline Hirons. She taught me to double cleanse about 10’years ago.

Hi OP I know what you mean I also hate putting water on my face and prefer cleansing milk . I've just started using the L'occitane fig one which stinks but does a reasonable job. L'0real do a couple of good ones as well. Don't despair about Body Shop btw I'm sure they will continue trading in some form!

CrayonCritic5 · 18/02/2024 18:21

Ponds cold cream

Micellar water isn't great for skin. It's great at removing make up but it doesn't cleanse skin. It leaves a greasy film behind.

Balm cleansers are thick and oil /wax based so need to be removed with hot water and a cloth or you'll leave it on your face, potentially clogging pores.

Boots N7 do a nice cleansing milk for dry skin which I like (white bottle with a lilac band)

Agreed, balms need to be washed off with water. Bemused by posters who are just wiping them off!

friskybivalves · 18/02/2024 19:17

For the Astral advocates, will it remove waterproof mascara??

LutonBeds · 18/02/2024 19:27

I use either Banila Clean it Zero or Heimish All Clean.

Take them off with a warm, damp face cloth then follow with Heimish All Clean Green Foam.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 18/02/2024 19:40

I use L'Oreal fine flowers milk. Just use tissue to remove it. It's lovely. And cheap as chips. Bought it when I lost my job (had to go budget!) and have never gone back to more expensive brands.

notsuchafrugalkitty · 18/02/2024 20:35

I use Sukin cleansing milk, I really like their products. Gentle and not too expensive.

ThatMiddleClassFood · 18/02/2024 23:41

Good old fashioned cold cream, astral, ponds or boots do one called traditional skin cream I think.

Letsnotupsettheapplcart · 19/02/2024 10:30

Clinique take the day off balm is amazing and I used a muslin to take it off 😊

I can’t believe people would be comfortable with leaving that horrible oily residue on their face!!

Rosie1990 · 19/02/2024 16:13

The body shop do a lovely cleansing balm for make up removal. It says to use water but I wet a pad and wipe it off

FasterthanaButteredOtter · 19/02/2024 16:54

Tropic smoothing cleanser is an oil based cream cleanser that is amazing for my sensitive skin. They give you a free bamboo cloth with each cleanser which are really soft and nicer than a cotton facecloth.

kaiadeluded · 19/02/2024 18:27

I use Simple purifying cleansing lotion applied with my fingers and wiped off with cotton wool pads. Then tone with Clinique Clarifying Lotion no2.
Moisturiser is either Boots No7 Protect & Perfect, or Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturising Lotion followed by La Roche Posay oil free spf50 facial sun lotion.
My face skin is soft smooth and free of dry skin particles, blemishes etc.

oriel2013 · 20/02/2024 06:25

Nivea Q10 anti wrinkle has SPF 30 andis one of the only moisturisers not to cause my breakouts. I always use micellar water in evenings and a wash off exfoliator in the shower on the mornings

Justwanttoleaveacomment · 20/02/2024 10:53

I love garnier micellar cleanser, I buy the one with coconut oil in, does hydrate your skin, it’s fab and everyone I’ve recommended it too uses it as well. I do buy some expensive products also, Liz Earl, Clinique but for what you want and the price the coconut oil is amazing!

You won’t get a cleanser with SPF, or it isn’t a cleanser.
