Seborrheic keratosis removal

Has anyone ever had a seborrheic keratosis removed from their face? If so what method was used and how much did it cost? I have been to a place that uses electrolysis and they refused to treat it. Went to another place and it will be £500+ for removal plus testing of the growth, that is with a surgeon carrying out the procedure. Any recommendations would be gratefully received. TIA

I was prescribed a cream (Efudix?) for a keratosis on my face about 3 years ago. DM has too. Mine is now much smaller and not noticeable or itchy - I don’t wear make-up so it’s not that I’m covering it up.

I’ve also had some removed from my torso by an ‘aesthetic technician’ (nurse) with a cryo wand.

I had a small one removed on my face and I think he took about 3 minutes with a laser thingy. Not sure what it was but it just scabbed over, dried and eventually fell away. Took about 7 days. It’s never come back.

Nearly £400 at a local private clinic by a fully qualified Doctor. Always check out the qualifications.*

BUPA dermatologist £150 with cryotherapy. Does several at a time including face. Checks moles as he goes too!

Dermatologist (not UK). Cryotherapy pen thingy. Hurt just for a second or two.

Had mine done on the NHS - I'd scratched it with my comb and the scab looked nasty. Local anaesthetic, cut out and stitched, biopsied but clear. Are you able to wangle a GP appt?

I had two lasered by a doctor at an "Aesthetic" clinic. £140 and took about five minutes. There was a scab for a couple of days and then a red mark but there was absolutely no sign of anything two weeks later.

Dh has had fantastic results with Clearasil spot cream, I think it worked as the active ingredient is salicylic acid. He dabbed it on every morning and evening and it disappeared,it was a huge old man bump, he was quite horrified when it suddenly grew but it's completely gone now, took about 2 weeks.

SparklyStone · 16/02/2024 14:04

I gave salicylic acid a go and it worked well on my face (forehead). I scratched it a little and applied a small amount morning and night and it went away. That was in 2020, it’s never come back 🥳

See a dermatologist. They will look through dermatoscope confirm benign and can cryo or shave excise it usually in the same appt privately.

Ireolu · 16/02/2024 14:59

See someone who is used to operating on the face. Mohs surgeon (dermatology trained) basically. They have a specialist interest in skin cancers and work predominantly on the face

Nachtvlinder · 16/02/2024 22:32

I had this diagnosed about 6/7 years ago by a dermatogist at the hospital but it wasn't available on the NHS, sadly. It's more noticeable now than before as I'm in my 50s. How do I go about finding a decent place privately. I don't want to get ripped off, nor do I want a botched job either. TIA.

Slightly off topic, but do you think the salicylic acid would work on skin tags? I have multiple very small tags on my neck that make it look dirty - so annoying.

Tie a hair round them and they'll die and fall off.

LaBelleSauvage123 · 17/02/2024 08:28

They’re far too small for that.

Go to a beauty therapist. They zap them with electric pulse pen thing. I had about 40 done in one go. They go black and fall off 😁

LaBelleSauvage123 · 17/02/2024 14:06

Ah I didn’t know you could have as many as that done at once! Places I’ve looked at will only do a few at a time. Worth knowing - thanks.

TheGrapesOfAss · 17/02/2024 14:07

Just been quoted £1300 at private hospital

I am leaving it where it is🙄

I had cryotherapy but it's come back. If anyone had had laser in sw london/surrey i would be keen for reccomendations!

BringMeTea · 17/02/2024 15:10

Not on the face but if anyone is in Hampshire I can recommend a guy who removed 2 from my back and a well developed milia right on the inner eye lid. £50 all in! He is great.

I have been the rounds as you can see. So cryotherapy for large keratosis at Dermatologist, and yes the odd one does come back, that was Circle Health in Guildford. Random beauty therapist does the laser pen on skin tags.

I also had a couple of big black jobs on my back removed with a super duper sonic laser machine at Health and Aesthetics in Elstead, middle of nowhere and expensive, but very good.

Singinghollybob · 17/02/2024 20:57

I had one on the side of my face near my hairline. Enquired about getting it removed in a clinic then looked into removing it myself.
Bought Salicylic acid and after a few applications it was gone. I'm so pleased with the results and saved me £150.

verylongday · 17/02/2024 22:25

I had mine removed from my face with cryotherapy. About 5 in total. I went for one session with a private consultant dermatologist. It cost £100.

NCNC4 · 01/03/2024 22:25

Is anyone able to recommend any of the salicylic acids that they used successfully (I see that Clearasil is already mentioned above)? Thanks.

elaeocarpus · 01/03/2024 22:32

Bazuka extra strength salicylic acid has worked for me on these and Small skin tags too

Mumof1andacat · 01/03/2024 22:48

I had one on my back removed. Cost around £60 for removal. They used a thermal scapper to get it off. Was in and out in half an hour. It scabbed over, and scab fell off, then that was it. Was at a private skin clinic.
