Seborrheic keratosis removal

Has anyone ever had a seborrheic keratosis removed from their face? If so what method was used and how much did it cost? I have been to a place that uses electrolysis and they refused to treat it. Went to another place and it will be £500+ for removal plus testing of the growth, that is with a surgeon carrying out the procedure. Any recommendations would be gratefully received. TIA

Thank you to everyone that replied. I had it removed last month at a Sk:n clinic, part of Harley Medical group chain. It was cut off and cauterised by a plastic surgeon and sent for analysis. Turns out it was a wart, not seborrheic keratosis at all, GP had told me it was SK. Had 2 further appointments booked in and had an extra one because I was concerned about the dressing the day after the procedure. It was just under £700 inclusive of consultation and treatment, which is a lot of money for me. I’m really glad I had it done. I still have a mark but it is a vast improvement on the raised lesion type thing I had before.

Wow, that’s so expensive! Think I’d have a go with the salicylic acid first!

SK and warts are the same thing. Your GP was right. I can't believe they charged you that much! They also don't need to go to pathology. That's what bumped the price up. I had several done through BUPA with a dermatologist for £200.

3 cryotherapy including 20 min with a dermatology consultant in the south west £200

Sk is also known as a seborrhoeic wart, no dressing for me after treatment, it just blistered then fell off.

Had mine done on the NHS - I'd scratched it with my comb and the scab looked nasty. Local anaesthetic, cut out and stitched, biopsied but clear. Are you able to wangle a GP appt?

Hi @Lifestooshort71

Was it a punch biopsy? I'm worried as going through this. Was it painful? How long did the results take?

Thanks

No, it was a local anaesthetic and then the whole thing was removed and 4 stitches inserted. A sample was sent away to be biopsied. I suppose the only painful bit was the needle but I think you can have numbing cream? Good luck.

Has anyone had an irritated Seb K?
What happened?
Did you apply anything or leave it alone?
Anything relieve the Seb K itch?

Mine is currently 6mm but it's looking really warty now. Hospital think it's Seb K but say it's not classic Seb K so I need a biopsy.

I had this diagnosed about 6/7 years ago by a dermatogist at the hospital but it wasn't available on the NHS, sadly. It's more noticeable now than before as I'm in my 50s. How do I go about finding a decent place privately. I don't want to get ripped off, nor do I want a botched job either. TIA.

Look up your local, private hospitals, search for dermatology and you'll find a list of hospitals and doctors.

I had one on my face for a decade and I used Eve Lom retinol and Eve Lom intensive night cream (for my skin generally, not for that) and it got rid of it in about 2 /3 months. Amazing.

I go to a private dermatologist every couple of years, hand over €150 and he freezes them off for me and does a whole body skin check at the same time.

notacooldad · 16/07/2025 16:14

I’m glad you’ve posted this op. I have the same on my chest. It is quite noticeable when I wear v neck t shirts and my summer dresses. I was worried and went to the doctors. After her sending the photos and info to the dermatologist I got the same diagnosis.
The suggestions here are helpful to me.

Can anyone put a link to the right salicylic acid product to buy, please?
Thanks.

Slightly off topic, but do you think the salicylic acid would work on skin tags? I have multiple very small tags on my neck that make it look dirty - so annoying.

I used nail clippers.

I used nail clippers.

I’ve tried that but they’re quite close to my skin with very short ‘stalks’ so hard to position the clippers so you don’t get the skin as well.
