id love a wave to my hair
it is poker straight POKER straight
i curl it nearly ever time i go out (with heated rollers) but they are a total scutter
i have lots of hair, its just very fine
good condition
i dont colour it or use products

is there such a thing as a perm that waves your hair

or shall i regret it and hide in the cupboard (like i did as a teenager when i begged my mum for a perm - like baby from dirty dancing - and i cried for a week cos it was so tight and hideous)

don't do it, just don't....

notnowbernard · 22/03/2008 20:29

I had a perm when I was about 12

Wanted a Charlene from Neighbours

The result was hideous

Good luck!

meemar · 22/03/2008 20:30

noooooooo. It's taking the 80's revival a step too far

Shitemum · 22/03/2008 20:30

I've had about 3 or 4 perms in my life. Only one was good - like you say wavy rather than curly. I could brush it out and then scrunch it with wet hands and it looked great. Unfortunately i can't remember what kind of perm it was...I did have it in Edinburgh tho!

Think you need to ask a few hairdressers for honest advice...

Don't. Really really bad idea.

I had one when I was 21, I also have very fine hair. It was horrible. It took me ages to get the tangles out, and tons of conditioner.

nailpolish · 22/03/2008 20:33

i read somewhere that perms are different to what they were 20 years ago

Don't do it!

I was only reminiscing with my best friend the other day about when we both went off together and had dodgy perms (in the 80s).

It was awful -we walked out of the hairdressers, nearly cried and then went to the nearest shop to buy the biggest, brightest ear-rings they had to distract people from the perms .

I looked like Crystal Tipps

blisscake · 22/03/2008 20:39

OMG last week I nearly posted a thread asking if anyone still has perms or did they cease to exist after the eighties? I need a bit of body in mine and was wondering if a perm was a solution but was too embarrassed to ask at the hairdressers!

Oliveoil · 22/03/2008 20:39

I used to have a wet look perm

Oliveoil · 22/03/2008 20:40

Have you been watching Ashes to Ashes naily?

[flicks naturally wavy/curly hair dismissively]

nailpolish · 22/03/2008 20:40

OP posts:
lou33 · 22/03/2008 20:43

my hair is permed np

i have it straight as well when i feel like it, but it's nice to just not have to faff with it when it's curly

nailpolish · 22/03/2008 20:46

i want this

and ic an get it with my heated rollers

but a perm would aviod the faff

lou
are they dear and how often do you get it redone?

OP posts:
Oliveoil · 22/03/2008 20:47

my hair was like that until I lopped it off

now it looks like that woman that is in the new Terminator series

kind of

HonoriaGlossop · 22/03/2008 20:48

I would love a loose-waves-not-too-curly perm! I have been thinking about this for a while.....spooky this thread should pop up

I saw a woman the other day with shoulder length curly grey hair and she looked SO nice.

It is time for curly to come back, enough of poker straight

nailpolish · 22/03/2008 20:48

link olive

i am growing fringe out (AGAIN - why do i keep getting it cut ffs?)
and its pissing me right off

my hair is not as long as czj and she is far better looking (obv)

OP posts:
lou33 · 22/03/2008 20:49

i guess it depends where you go, but yes initially it was expensive, about £120 with perm and cut, though that was at an expensive salon (not all salons do perms)

BUT now my mate does it for free as she has her own salon

after the first perm, you can usually get away with just the top being redone, which can be cheaper

it depends how long your hair is and how much perm lotion you need

i'd say twice a year was good enough to have the roots redone

lou33 · 22/03/2008 20:49

you need to go into a salon and discuss what you want and get a quote
