id love a wave to my hair
it is poker straight POKER straight
i curl it nearly ever time i go out (with heated rollers) but they are a total scutter
i have lots of hair, its just very fine
good condition
i dont colour it or use products

is there such a thing as a perm that waves your hair

or shall i regret it and hide in the cupboard (like i did as a teenager when i begged my mum for a perm - like baby from dirty dancing - and i cried for a week cos it was so tight and hideous)

you can still straighten permed hair with your ghd's, if you dont like it

LedodgyCheapEasterEggsAreASin · 22/03/2008 20:55

I had a perm like Baby's in Dirty Dancing in the 80s and have realised in the last few years if I don't blow my hair dry straight and either scrunch dry it or let it dry naturally I have naturally curly hair! Why I didn't realise this before having perms in the 80s i'll never know!

nailpolish · 22/03/2008 20:55

i think i might ask at salon about costs

do they still do perms the same as 20 years ago lou? or have things changed.

no np things have moved on a lot, there is a lot of choice

same kind of procedure tho, you still look a twat while they are doing it

nailpolish · 22/03/2008 20:57

as in, technique, perm lotions, 'neutralisers' or whatever they are called, etc - is it all the same s it was then?

LOL ledodge

thanks lou

so you dont have to have these teeny rollers|? they can use bigger ones?

Oliveoil · 22/03/2008 20:58

what is your hair like if you leave it to dry?

mine is frizzy wavy if I blow it or curly if I leave it to dry

shove on some serum or Frizz Ease cream stuff when wet, scrunch and leave

great in summer, wash and go (just like the ad!)

nailpolish · 22/03/2008 20:59

it si POKER straight
i hardly ever blow dry my hair, and its still poker poker straight (and v shiny, i may add)

i dont use product either (unless im going out for the night, then i put the heated rollers in and a ton of product)

they can use teeny rollers, but like i said it depends on what you want really

you need to go in and discuss it

my hair is not tight curls, but the rollers were still small to me

in my case they used 2 different sized rollers to make it look less permed and more messy , so to speak

fwiw noone thinks my hair is permed

FriedGreenTomatoes · 23/03/2008 00:27

yes, you are bonkers. perms never look good. even on old ladies with blue rinses.

Bendi · 23/03/2008 00:43

dear lord NOOOOOOO! If it's shiny leave it & get it curled when you want it. Things are different to the 80's, but it's still harsh chemical junk tht strips the life out of your hair. It might be wavy but it will be dry and crackly - perms are just not great. If it can make your hair curl for 6 months, then what the hell is it doing to it? Best wishes, Deidre Barlow, with bells on, or Brian Potters girlfriend from Phoenix Nights. xx

I have got curly (not tight curly hair) and it is great cause I can wash and go or I can straightened if I feel like it. My haor is thick though so I get it thinned out.

I agree perms are much better these days and I think it gives you the best of both worlds. My friends with fine straight hair are always saying they are jealous anyway.

go for it.It can allways grow out cant it?

Piffle · 23/03/2008 07:37

hair dresser recommended loose perm for me when I went in whinging about the length and lack of body after giving birth... Had lovely ringlets when pregnant and perm did seem more practical and cheaper in the long term than permanent pregnancy.
however could not go through with it, the indelible memory of my nasty blonde poodle perm (think Kath from Kath and Kim) c 1990. The image still at the forefront of my mind, as it was retained for posterity emblazoned as it was upon my passport. There is not a country in the world that has not had an immigration official chortle at my photo, suspended for an entire decade in times I'd rather forget.

dozymare · 23/03/2008 07:48

Oh definately go for it! Perms are definately making a comeback but more the loooser curl rather than the tight wet look of the 80's (I looked like a pube head as had a wave in my hair anyway) The hairdresser I go to was only saying the other day that more and more people are coming in for perms as they want the "loose curl" look rather than dead straight hair that has been in vogue for the past 10 years or so....look at Kate Moss in the new Top Shop campaign - definately some serious curling going on there!! Bring back the perm I say!!!

lou33 · 23/03/2008 14:22

gosh no, my perm is not a tight wet look

i just wanted it to look naturally curly
